The place was on a smaller side but cozy. The waitress was attentive and friendly. I’ve spent over a year in Japan so I believe I am a fair judge of somehow Japanese cuisine. I had tako-yaki and that was average. Not bad but average. I probably would order it again as it was one of my favorite street food in japan. Age tofu was decent but this kind of food is not rare so nothing to add to it was ok. Oshinko had 5 different pickled vegetables which was already good as if I ask or order it in some other Japanese places there are usually not more than three. We had vegan ramen and spicy ramen. And it was good, very generous portion. You can mix and match(as it should) which works if you are vegan or vegetarian or just picky eater. I will definitely comeback just for ramen. It’s a good sweet little spot.

Was told about this place by a friend who swore by the food, but when viewimg pictures I was unsure how I really felt about it but decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival it looked like a tiny store which increased my unsurety. Despite the doubts, we walked in and the greeter was already waiting with menus for us. We were seated and asked for drinks not even five minutes later. Drinks were brought out and food was ordered. I ordered the Kappo Nara ramen, which is the house ramen, and was not disappointed! The food came out quickly, and looked amazing. The taste, even better. I normally don’t find myself spooning the broth out of the bottom of anything, but I couldn’t get enough. To finish off we had frozen mango mochi, where with past experiences I haven’t enjoyed mochi, but here it was delightful. All in all I highly recommend this restaurant, it was an unexpected gem.

The place is small, and in the middle of a shopping plaza, but the food was fantastic. We went shortly after they opened for dinner on a weekday and there was only one other table eating, and two girls on waitstaff. Not much room for a large group, but enough seating for quite a few couples or small groups. Husband was excited about the large sized Kirin beer, but we went after hearing reviews, and with the intention of getting good ramen. We spent 2 years in Japan eating out at least once a week, and were impressed with the food size and quality. Gyoza and steamed pork buns were so good, and overall nice apps to split. I wouldn’t mess around with too many appetizers or sides if you want to finish your actual dish. They had my favorite dish– katsu don, and Kappo Nara’s was perfect. Husband had the fatty pork tonkotsu ramen, and was super impressed. The eggs inside were that perfect barely-hard boiled. We definitely intend on going back to try other ramen dishes.

I’m so happy that Virginia beach has a ramen spot to go to. I love having my noodles and especially having ramen when the weather is cold outside. I’ve been wanting to check out alkaline in Norfolk. But since they opened this closer to my house I had to try it. The menu is good for those who are not as adventures and prefer traditional rice and regular entrees. I got my kids an order of pork cutlet and rice and edamame. I was happy that they served them first and that they really enjoyed their meal. It is a big serving so my 3 boys(under 5) shared. Once my soul came in, I was so pleased to see that the egg was cooked perfect, not overly under and that they gave me generous amount of corn, fish cake, scallions and pork. I really loved that they had a real soup spoon that helps you scoop generous amounts of broth when you take your first bite. All I can say is .Wow, I really enjoyed my miso ramen soup! The corn, pork and broth was amazing. I’m surprised how good it was, since I’m from the west coast and I’ve been to some really good ramen spots. The broth was perfect, neither salty or bland. It was flavorful. My husband had got the shoyu ramen but my Miso ramen was a winner. The shoyu ramen was good but not as flavorful as the miso. I will defiantly have to come back and try the miso spicy ramen next time.

Stopped by and Tried this place for a late lunch for the first time with my boyfriend and his lil brother. This is pretty tiny for dining, but it’s cute. We had ordered the whole grilled squid for our appetizer which has a dipping sauce. It was delicious, it was better then eating traditional fried calamari. I had ordered the Spicy miso soup, which was consisted of ground meat, sprouts, bamboo shoots, noodles(of course), halfed boiled egg, and a dry seaweed on the side, it was spicy, oh did I like that! My boyfriend had ordered the House Soup which consisted of mostly seafood, I tried his, that was really tasty especially the soup!(I think i actually liked his better). His lil brother had gotten the Pork dish entrée, a porkloin covered with a coating of panko(like chicken katsu) accompanied with a dipping sauce and rice. It was okay, the Pork didn’t have any seasoning to it, it tasted a bit bland until u dip it in sauce. Service was great, food was pretty good, I would come back to try other options.

First time at this location, it is so tiny, but it is very typical for ramen shops to be small. Spots like this are meant to eat and go, not sit and chat. It was very easy to find and there is lots of parking in the plaza. On a Wednesday around 6, it was not too busy, we were seated right away. At the Norfolk location, I fell in love with the Spicy Ramen so I had to get the same here as well. We ordered some gyoza which came out quickly before our meal. My friend thought it had too much veggies for her liking but I really liked it that way, so, to each his own! The gyoza sauce was yummy, I like to add a little chili oil. My Spicy Ramen was on point. I’m getting over a cold and it helped open my sinuses. It’s so flavorful! And oh my, I love the creamy soft egg! The noodles were cooked perfectly, nice and chewy but not overcooked. The seasonal special was a Curry Ramen that my husband enjoyed, no complaints from him. My friend got the Tonkatsu and she enjoyed it! Great service! The servers were very attentive, polite, and friendly. I love it! Since this place is closer, we will visit this spot more than the Norfolk one.

First of all why do they open at 1pm? If you aren’t gonna be open for lunch then you might as well not open until 5 for dinner. We got here at 1250 and they turned us away(me, my wife and our 3 small kids saying they didn’t open for another 10 minutes. So we head back to our car and wait? I thought they might at least offer us a table to sit since we have a 4 year old, 2 year old and a baby that we just spent the last 10 minutes unloading but didn’t. Just bad practice in my opinion. Pointless to open at 1pm. What the heck kind of time is that? Never again.

Gotta give love to them for serving a VEGANRAMEN! Thank you! :) The vegan ramen has a mushroom soup base and includes corn, seaweed, sprouts I think?, bamboo, and one mushroom cap. I do find the base a little bland so sauce it up with some hot sauce or soy sauce depending on my mood. Service is friendly and the place has always been moderately packed each time we’ve visited. I’d love to see an expansion on the vegan broth options(or maybe a more flavorful mushroom base) but at the same time I’m just thanking my lucky stars that there’s ONE option. Great soup portions and a little pricier than any other ramen joint I’ve been too. I think that’s because ramen noodle houses are few and far between in the area(sadness). My boyfriend orders one of the non-veg ramen bowls(I can’t remember which one) and says it’s tasty. Vegan tip: just order the«vegan ramen noodles» to make your veg ramen bowl vegan friendly.

First time at a ramen spot, and loved it. Got the cheshu bao and tonkotsu. It was delicious. I recommended first timers to go here. I will come back, since I live around the corner.

I happened to try the Norfolk location last year so I was happy another location opened in Virginia Beach! It’s a small establishment, so I would expect it to be busy during the lunch and dinner rush hours. The service is usually pretty quick. I always order the spicy miso. Even though I’m not a big fan of spicy food, I love this soup because it opens up my sinuses. I just have to keep eating quickly so I don’t burn my tongue. They have great appetizers as well, it just depends on your mood and level of hunger. The servers are usually very nice and attentive as well.

This ramen noodle bar opened in May 2015. Came here on a Saturday after watching an early movie at Cinema Café where, btw I only eat the popcorn. We arrived around mid-afternoon…Kappo Nara Ramen opens at 1pm on Saturdays which is great since most small Japanese restaurants break at 3pm for a couple of hours. My family ordered the House and the Miso ramen. Both were very good. A must have for me is my all-time favorite Katsudon especially on a first visit. Kappo Nara, by far, cooks the best Katsudon. If you’ve never had this dish before, please do yourself a favor and try it. Basically, it’s a rice bowl with a moist and tender fried boneless pork chop, onions, and a fried egg… just good old comfort food asian style!

Hampton Roads doesn’t have much in the way of ramen shops so there is a little leeway here. With that being said, I didn’t think that my experience here was that stellar. We started off with the takoyaki. For $ 4.95 you get 5 small fried balls of dough with a piece of octopus inside. Flavor wise was okay, but the dough seemed a touch undercooked when you bit into it and was a little… runny. Meh. The ramen itself was about $ 11/bowl and it was a pretty small portion. I got the miso and the bf got the shoyu. My miso bowl came with the standard pork/egg/corn/nori etc. The soup base was fine, not too salty but flavorful. Noodles had a bit of a bite which I liked, and the egg was the right consistency. I did not like the pork too much, it was pretty dry and hard. Meh. I tried my bf’s shoyu bowl and it was like drinking a ladle full of salt. Way too salty there. The soup spoon/ladle is a cute touch but it doesn’t really function very well as a spoon. Overall this place is okay, but not my first choice of new fun place to check out. It’s worth it to give it a try if you’ve never had ramen, but know that it is not the best here

I’m not generally a big fan of ramen or any kind of soup. It’s really something I have to be in the mood for. But this place was great! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here! I went in with my family for lunch on a weekday. It’s a very small restaurant, but it wasn’t busy at all when we went in. There were only two people dining at the time and two others following us in. Our server was very friendly. She greeted us immediately and seated us at a table. After ordering, we were served rice cakes, which I think she said were their special. They were very good, and I enjoyed every bite of mine! We ordered the age tofu and the shumai, which weren’t really my favorites but we’re good nonetheless. The ramen was great! I’d ordered the shoyu and added a shiitake mushroom. Everything in it was delicious! I would definitely go back!

Aaaaaaaamaazing!!! So this place replaced the long line of terrible joints that keep setting up shop and failing near my work. I’ve been dying to try this place but wanted to go for dinner. Finally made it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Appetizer we tried was the grilled squid. I honestly just wanted to try it, it was just ok. I felt it lacked something but I’m not sure as I have not ever had it. The sauce served with it was really great, adding the fresh ground ginger really perked it up! I went with miso ramen with added shiitake mushroom and corn. I added a little chili oil and it was over the top good. The noodles are creamy and buttery and stand up well to the broth. They were by far the best part. I think I have to put ramen ahead of Phở in my list for sure. It was so good I wanted it for dinner again tonight!!!

Came in today, kind of late, with a group of 10. If you plan on coming here with a big group, just know that you will have to sit at 3 separate tables. The menu selections weren’t really bad. They had appetizers, kitchen entrees, ramen, and desserts. They also had a pretty good cocktail, wine, and beer selection. I wanted to get a few appetizers because I was starving but decided against it because my eyes are always too big for my stomach. I got the spicy bowl with miso broth, egg, bamboo shoot, and. I was pretty excited because I’ve never been anywhere and ordered ramen. When I got it, the presentation was great, but the flavor was lacking, even though it was spicy. They gave a lot of noodles, but they were very soft, and I like them a little al dente. My favorite part was the soft boiled egg. Honestly, I make better ramen at home when I pimp it out. I actually think phở has more flavor than this did. The service was good. The server was nice and super patient with my loud group. Thanks! I probably won’t return for a long time. Or I’ll try the whole grilled squid or grilled mackerel next time. Oh wellz.

I enjoyed my food here, but I didn’t enjoy the restaurant much. I was alone, so I was seated at this bar that was erected there. Not much ambiance staring at a shelf of Maneki Neko statues. I would rather have been at a table. I ordered an appetizer of «rice ball» which was Onigiri style rice wrapped in seaweed. It was pretty tasty, ate one and took the other home for breakfast. I chuckled to see the Onigiri labeled as «rice ball» on the menu, but the toppings were like Ume and Konbu in Japanese. The ramen menu takes up the whole back of the menu and they have a nice selection of spicy and regular ramen(thick and see-through broth). I tried the Shoyu, made with soy and chicken broth. It came while I was still eating my appetizer and tasted nice. Just nice, not blowing my flip flops off or anything. I kinda wish it had been served a little hotter. Even though I finished my appetizer quickly, it’s not like it arrived steaming. Ultimately, a nice little place for when you have an urge for ramen. Take note — the menu states they charge 18% gratuity on parties of 4 or more!

Came back to have my girlfriend give it a try. She had the House Ramen which was a Miso base soup. It’s $ 12.50 which I think is a fair price since it’s loaded with Seafood. They should just call it the Seafood Ramen instead of House Ramen, little misleading because we typically think the«House» selection is the more general one? That’s just my personal experience and opinion though. The seafood that was in it was little shrimps, mussels, and baby scallops. Also topped with veggies. No egg that was a disappointment, egg is always a must in a bowl of ramen. Overall the dish was just an «Ok». I selected the Spicy Ramen again except this time with«Chasu Pork» which was an extra $ 1. This is the reason why I dropped my rating down to 3 stars verses my initial review rating of 4 stars. In my previous review, I did find the price a little discouraging for the location and value, in comparison to my experiences of other ramen businesses. The extra«Chasu pork»(Chashu/Char siu btw) was(1) one square little slice of this hard, cold, dry piece of pork. My experience and understanding of «Chasu Pork» is a Barbecue Marinated Braised Pork. However, this was nothing of the sort. It was a chunk of dry pork. It honestly just tasted like it was boiled and left in the fridge… for two days. I’ll probably come back(less) just because living down here I crave ramen and driving home to NOVA is too much work.
