Great locals place. Good food, good service, reasonable prices and walking distance from the marinas.

It was my first time at O’Leary’s. I liked the atmosphere and loved the live band(which is why I gave 2 stars). But, the service was terrible. It was very busy, but both bartenders went out of their way to avoid eye contact with with me(and everyone else trying to order a drink). When I finally got my drink, I noticed a small fly in it. I pushed around the contents of my glass, and several more flies floated to the top. OK, I understand things happen. However, when I told the waitress there were bugs in my drink, she said«oh, ew», took my drink and hurried away. She did not ask if I wanted a fresh one, or a different drink, she just walked away! I had to flag her down again to ask for a replacement, and only after she brought the new drink did she bother to give me a hurried«sorry» about the flies. The customer service at the bar completely ruined my experience and I will not be returning.

Back in VA Beach and stopped at my favorite bar. Still great food, beer and drinks at great prices and that local ambience that makes for a great local pub. Thanks for welcoming this old Texan.

I really wanted to like this place. They sponsor our kickball team so we came here on Sunday after the game for $ 1 tacos and a free pitcher of beer. There were 8 adults and 1 kid at our table. The waitress took our orders for drinks and food and came back with 4 cups and a pitcher of water. We assumed the second pitcher with the additional 5 cups would soon follow. We quickly realized that maybe we were supposed to share cups? It was strange. It was another 10 minutes before our waitress came back with our food and still no more cups. The $ 1 tacos. Honestly I know places can’t give you an abundance of meat for $ 1 but goodness I don’t even think there was a spoonful of meat. My bf ended up combining all the meat from his 3 tacos into one so that at least 1 would have the meat of a normal taco. We finally get our second pitcher of water and cups(mind you we’ve been sharing up to now bc were so thirsty) and finally our pitcher of beer that is maybe filled ¾ way. I ate 2 of my tacos after combining my meat and was still hungry so we got a basket of fries. After what felt like forever, we got our fries and they were very good and hot. We had to constantly ask for refills on our water pitcher and when we ordered the second pitcher of beer it was brought out AFTER our checks came. There was only one other group of people that the waitress was waiting on and only 2 people at the bar. I don’t know if it was her first night but I was not impressed by anything other than the fries. I don’t really recommend this place. Slow service and the portion size is absolutely terrible for the tacos. Skip out on this one

Was there this weekend for a charity event in the parking lot. We ventured inside for cocktails and had a wonderful time. The bartender was really busy but she was great. I’ll have to go back for the AYCE crab legs.

My dad lives across the street from O’Leary’s, so we usually eat there when I visit. They never seem all that crowded, which is a plus, and service is fast and friendly. They have cider(s) on tap, which is unusual in my experience, and it’s not overpriced. The crabcakes, burgers and shepherd’s pie are fantastic, but I wasn’t a fan of the tuna steak or the fish and chips. The tuna was very bland, and wasn’t served with any sort of sauce, and the fried fish wasn’t crunchy, but battered in something resembling Shake N Bake. Neither was inedible or anything, but I wouldn’t order them again. Overall, I’ve enjoyed my meals at O’Leary’s.

I’ve been coming in a lot on Thursday nights because these folks sponsor my kickball league. Barbara, our waitress, is the bomb. She never misses a beat when it comes to service!!! $ 1 tacos are tempting but they aren’t as good. Definitely go for an order of fries. My friends like to get the chicken wings which I thought were pretty decent. Last nights friend ordered their tortellini dish which I thought was phenomenal. The nachos? Oh lawd… Where do I begin? It can feed four people the damn thing is piled so high. In a place where you expect typical bar food go for wings, nachos or the tortellini dish. I like that they have plenty of TVs so you don’t have to miss any sports. If the weather is good catch a seat on their outdoor patio. And if you catch a group of young folks playing flip cup… join us! Cool spot to kick it after playing some competitive 3rd grade kickball!!!

Stopped in here a few months ago for some beers with my boyfriend. It was a Friday night & pretty empty except for a few people at the bar. We decided we should come back again for food. We stopped by again this week for the $ 1 taco night, & yum! CP Shuckers $ 1 tacos are awful, so I was happy with the fresh lettuce, cheese, & sour cream that they are served with to make your own. Our waitress was friendly & someone was playing cool music from their ipod. My boyfriend loved the chill atmosphere, but I felt like we were making the staff stay later than they wanted even thought it was only 9. I think we may have been the only people when we left around the same time. The sign said open til«late» so we weren’t really sure. I’ll go back & try something off the actual menu next time & arrive a lil earlier =)

I live in the DC area and was down in Virginia Beach for the Shamrock Marathon weekend. My friends and I wanted to go to an Irish pub on St. Patrick’s Day. All I can say is that it looked like it would be fun. I have no idea why it is called an Irish pub, as none of the food items could resemble Irish or British food. A Reuben sandwich is not on the menu as a regular item, it was a special. So, we ordered drinks and the sampler appetizer and calamari. The calamari is frozen and I can buy that at Costco, disappointing considering that they are located at the beach. We get the Sampler and the«southwest egg roll» was from a frozen app, had no taste and had a pastey consistency. Then we ordered lunch, I ordered the steak sandwich in a sub roll, my daughter ordered a hot dog, and my friend ordered a salad with Shrimp. Wait for it… so a steak sandwich from this establishment consists of cubed, stew meat in a hot dog bun– and I know it was a hot dog bun because it was the same size as my daughter’s hot dog bun. My friend’s salad was inedible because the shrimp was tainted. We tell our waitress that the shrimp is bad and inedible, she apologizes, they remove the charge from the bill and bring a drink that my friend had ordered and management is paying for and we were fine with that. Then my friend’s husband orders a 2nd Harp beer and the waitress comes back and says, somebody beet you to the last beer, we don’t have anymore Harp(Isn’t that an Irish Beer? and isn’t this St. Patrick’s Day?) So, he even remarked you mean you don’t have anymore kegs of an Irish Beer on St. Patrick’s Day, our waitress’ response– Well the green Budweiser sells better on St. Patrick’s Day– WHAT??? Obviously, these folks need to learn more about running an Irish Pub, you might want to check out O’Connells in Old Town Alexandria, VA and O’Sulliivan’s in Arlington, VA, or Four Provinces in Falls Church, VA These Pubs are true Irish pubs, run by Irishmen and provide an awesome atmosphere! Needless to say, I would never recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a true Irish Pub.

O’Leary’s is a place near and dear to my heart for many reasons including some great memories, great moments, and great times. I first visited O’Leary’s in 2002 when I moved to Virginia Beach and became a regular customer. Why? Because O’Leary’s was like«Cheers» to me. PEOPLE: The staff, the patrons, the owners… all top notch and amazing people. DRINKS: Always good and strong at a reasonable price. FOOD: I love their food especially the Cape Henry(Crap) Quesadilla, Burgers, and Tuna Bites. After I moved away from Virginia Beach in 2006 I have frequently come back to visit and O’Leary’s is always the top place list of places to visit. If you are looking for fine dining… this is not your place. But if you are looking for a good time, good food, drinks, and a plethora of sports on their many TV’s…try it out and you will love it. I most recently went back to O’leary’s this past weekend to celebrate the life of a good friend who passed. O’Leary’s and still the best bar in the world and what an amazing time.

A great casual hangout. Sort of a locals-only spot. If they don’t recognize you when you come in as a regular, they assume you must be a tourist. I like the people that hang out here. Not a meat market, just a place to enjoy a beer and good conversation with friends. Also, it’s kind of tucked away, in Marina Shores, which is why I think it’s mostly a locals place. After reading the other review, I’m sad I’ve never gone to O’Leary’s for dinner. I’ve only sat around in the evening for beers. What was I thinking? Definitely going to eat there sometime very soon.
