They had one of the best Volcano Rolls I’ve had in a while! When I ordered the volcano roll, this place gave me exactly what I wanted. It was Amaza’zing! You must try the volcano and the Spicy Beach Roll. So full of flavor and left me begging for more! I wanted to try something different so I ordered the beef sukiyaki entrée. I didn’t know it was going to be a soup, but it was great and it was very well made! I had to wait quite some time for it to cool down though. It was extremely hot for a while because it came in a cast iron pot. Good thing I had my volcano roll to keep me indulged while it cooled down. It reminded me of phở soup which is good, but I would recommend just sticking to the sushi! The Gyoza Dumplings were plump and juicy, it’s a great appetizer and side. It’s worth the $ 5.59. Just so you get an idea of the pricing, for two people during dinner hour we ordered four sushi rolls, the dumplings and the beef soup for $ 70 including the tip. This place is pretty underrated and I’ve been here a few times and had a great meal every time. I’d highly recommend eating here. Fast service & Fantastic food!

We went here for lunch, on a recommendation by a local while we were visiting VA Beach. It was amazing! The lunch specials were so reasonable and there was a lot of variety for lunch. This place is almost hidden in a nondescript building on Pacific Ave and you might pass it by… don’t give it a try! We are already planning on going back next time we are there! The service is great, the restaurant is extremely clean, and the food is fresh!

I don’t think this is related to the Sakura in Fredericksburg — no tabletop chefs here. There is a group low-rise table in the back room that was not in use. Funnily enough, there was someone sleeping back there the whole time. They have a decent sushi selection, with a good variety of sashimi like escolar available. I was disappointed in the yellowtail, though, it was in a weird minced up form. My wife is new to trying sushi and got a tempura crab and shrimp roll which she really enjoyed. The teriyaki sauce available is a nice and fresh citrusy version. Things ran really slow here for it being fairly empty, but a pretty decent stop overall. 3 – 3.5 stars, worth a try if you want sushi in the area.

Here again and not disappointed! If there’s better sushi in Virginia Beach, I haven’t found it! Fresh and delicious, great service, cold beer… what more could you want. Got the usual rainbow roll(awesome) and their Twin Tower roll(fried oyster and shrimp — loved it!). Prices are about what you’d expect to pay(and who wants discount sushi!?). Nice and quiet in a little strip mall a block from the strip. Aaaaaahhhhhh… I honestly don’t know what the one-star, «grocery store sushi» haters could have possibly experienced that was that bad. I’ve been here many times and have not had one less than 3-star experience. I get grocery store sushi all the time at Wegmans and I promise you THISAINTTHAT!

The sushi was really good!!! Also, they let us sit in a 6 person booth even though there were only 2 of us and they added nice touches like bringing us a sample of their sushi special as soon as we sat down and small complimentary refresher at the end.

This review is from 6÷7÷2013. My wife and I ate at Sakura on the first evening of our honeymoon in Virginia Beach, just after checking in at the hotel, since it was relatively close-by. I am a huge fan of Japanese food, both hibachi and sushi, so it’s not difficult to convince me to try a new place. I had some sort of steak dinner. I was expecting hibachi, but hibachi, it was not. I did not try any sushi, and this seems to be a sushi-oriented place, so it might not be fair that I give it a negative review, but the steak dinner I had was not much to rave about. The steak itself was fantastic, but I was only served about 6 small slivers of meat on a huge plate filled with other stuff that I can’t describe nor explain. For the large amount of money I was charged for the small amount of food, it was just sort of alarming. My wife and I were both so dissatisfied with the food that we ended up ordering pizza from the nearby North End Pizza later that evening(excellent, by the way). I guess this is considered to be a «high-class» Japanese spot, but I’d much rather just have hibachi. Our server was sort of rude, the service was slow, and I actually ordered a California Roll but neither received or was charged for it, and I felt no need to ask for it twice. I do have a bit of an accent, being from Kentucky, but it felt like I was being ignored more so than misunderstood. I would likely pass on the opportunity to eat here again.

I am giving them four stars because the food is delicious. I have learned that delicious Japanese food is hard to find in the area, but this place is delicious. the Teryaki chicken is on point and their gyoza is killer. I always just get my food to go, so I’m not sure about the atmosphere when dining in. I know the first time I called to see if they delivered, the person on the phone was very snotty with me, like it was offensive I asked. I always call my order ahead, they always tell me 10 – 15 minutes, but I’ve learned it usually takes 20+ minutes. this most recent time it actually took 40 minutes to prep two orders of Teryaki chicken and a gyoza. I was pretty annoyed, because it wasn’t that busy in there. the food really is worth the wait in my opinion though. I will also add, it is a little pricy, the meal I waited forty minutes for, was forty bucks. If you are not interested in getting the soup and house salad with your chicken, I’d recommend just ordering the appetizer portion.

The equivalent of grocery store sushi. I thought coastal areas had fresh fish. Even worse, the tow truck company towed my car by mistake. Watch where you park around here.

Frozen fish with no flavor for $ 20 sashimi deluxe. The only fish on my plate that wasn’t frozen and thawed out with no flavor was the salmon. If you are looking for fresh fish with robust flavor don’t eat here. The service is horrible as well… the waitress snatched the menus tossed food on the table and never makes eye contact. Two thumbs down.

It’s been a year since we last visited! Arrived about 6;30pm– about 3 tables occupied, and one person at the bar. Decided to order two apps and two dinners which come with salad and soup. One app arrived –not together — the soup order was wrong(1 miso and 1 clear) –2 miso, so the correct soup was reordered! The second app arrived –A California roll. Immediately the salads arrived. Three minutes later the Tempura arrived, and 5 minutes later the terriyaki. Then finally my soup! Very unprofessional service, difficult to get the servers attention. Not sure if there was a language issue. Food OK, service sub-par. Cannot imagine how the service will be once the«season» starts.!! We will not be there to find out.

The shumai was probably the best I’ve ever had… but the Alaska roll was disappointing and the white tuna sushi was cut wrong so it didn’t melt in my mouth like it should have. But the dancing tuna roll was awesome. A very uneven performance.

Pretty good sushi here. Definitely not the best, but if you’re craving sushi in VB and live(or are staying) on the oceanfront, it’s a great place to go.

Not much for me to say about this place. The food is good, no problems there. The atmosphere is average, no frills. Pretty much unremarkable experience but nothing negative to say about this place.

A few years ago I dined here all the time and loved the place. However, my latest visit last week was anything but spectacular. Not horrible… just not as great as I once remember and I’m not sure if that’s because it’s gone downhill or my tastebuds have advanced. I also am not happy with the fact that when I asked for sliced jalapeños on my albacore sashimi, the waitress said they don’t have them. Ever. Is that a weird thing to ask for? Sushi restaurants usually always have them. Anyway, everything else was ok. But that’s just it. Ok.

I eat sushi but I LOVE the lunch Shrimp Tempura box and all of the vegetable rolls. My girlfriends and I love this place for get togethers. The service is great! Everyone is always pleased with their sushi selections. We have tried everything and enjoyed it. Jonathan is right about his observation. Unfortunately I have been sized up a few times when I entered by myself and then treated differently when they realized I was with my friends. Sad but … Usually the waiters are kind and very attentive but they could benefit from multicultural customer service training.

Anywhere that serves baby octopus is usually cooking up a recipe for success. So Sakura, why did you have to ruin it with the terrible attitude of the employees? Your baby octopus was freakin’ awesome… you even left the faces of the little infant octopi intact so I could lock eyes with them one final time before shoving them in my mouth, as if to wave farewell. When I walked in, the server at the hostess station directly in front of the door completely ignored me. A server near the bar in the back noticed and sat me down. Ronalyn’s review mentions the slow service. At first I thought she was wrong because the servers came after me like flies to a light, but after I ordered, I saw she was right. First, it took 20 minutes for the food to come out. Second, I ordered an appetizer, a sushi dish, and an entrée. They all came at the exact same time, crowding the table, pretty much defying all logic. Next, a lady walked in asking if there are any hibachi-style restaurants around. The sushi chef was like«No, we are the only Japanese restaurant in town!» and I was like, «Maybe I can help.» I whip out my trusty Unilocal for iPhone app, and show her a hibachi place located right around the corner. After I did that, it was game on for the sushi chef to talk smack about me, directly in front of me since I was at the sushi bar. He constantly was muttering to his coworker about how I turned his business away. Guess what? You don’t do hibachi so grow the hell up! Then, I tried to order mochi ice cream for dessert and they never heard of it! I asked if they heard of it and then instead of talking crap about me sending their customer away, they started talking crap about me asking for mochi! Extra star for the baby octopus.

I’ve tried many sushi places in the 757 and this was one of the worst. The sushi was okay, but the service was the worst. The place was packed and they only had 2 waitresses working. They also had a group in the party room too. It took 30 minutes to get water, 45 minutes to get our sushi, and another 20 minutes to get our check. Don’t even ask me why I decided to stay after the first 30 minutes. Wanted to give them a chance I guess. Well, no one was there to ring us up but I did leave them a tip. A big fat goose egg.
