Ate here with family for restaurant week and we really enjoyed our dinner. It has a nicely decorated beachy and casual feel to it. The waitress was excellent and very attentive. She immediately took to my crazy family and made us feel very comfortable. The food was delicious(all got a variety from Salmon, to Chicken Fried rice and Seafood special with noodles). My Salmon with rice and veggies looked very much like something I would cook myself at home… nothing fancy but it was delicious and that is what I care about most. The dessert was the real star here. That Kahlua ice cream cake was to die for! Give them a try.

Ate dinner with my family here the other night. I had the east meets west omelette and my wife had Kevin fried rice. My omelette was good but the plain rice and green beans it came with could’ve been better. The omelette was flavorful but rice and green beans were bland so I didn’t enjoy it as much as her food. She loved her fried rice. It came with some chicken skewer which I ended up eating. It was probably the best chicken skewer I’ve ever had. If I ordered a bunch of those skewers this would definitely be a 5 star rating but since 2 of the 3 items on my plate were bkand, I had to take a star off. We both ordered the egg drop soup which has some chicken in it and is actually really tasty. Not your average chinese take out soup. Wouldn’t mind eating here again, but next time I’ll just order something they sell a lot of instead of trying to live a little.

I must have a different palate then the other reviewers or I hit this restaurant on a bad day. It was mediocre at best. I ordered the kev’s shrimp fried rice and was told they had no egg rolls so I had to get the chicken teriyaki as my side. The chicken was good, nothing different then what you get at a cheap chinese buffet and the shrimp fried rice was so so. There was only 2 older couples in the establishment and I was not surprised giving the quality of the food. I had heard such wonderful things and I was so disappointed. The staff was friendly, a very low maintenance kind of feel to the restaurant.

Pretty solid General’s Chicken. Outside of PF Changs, I’ve had problems finding descent Chinese food in this area. I think this will be my stop.

The oil was definitely not the correct temperature as the egg roll and the tempura shrimp were dripping from the oil they absorbed. The general tso’s also was lacking and small for the price. Both items well overpriced. Maybe the American food on the menu is ok? Not the place for Asian food.

One of my favorite places to eat in Virginia Beach! I recommend getting their potstickers and fried rice. My boyfriend really like the burgers. Love the staff.

Five stars! Excellent food in a cool little storefront location. It’s a family-run business and the whole team is very nice. The food is amazing, with several inspired interpretations of standard Chinese fare. If you try their General Tso’s chicken, you’ll never order it again from anywhere else. The jalapeño poppers are amazing and even the deserts are incredible.(And I’m not a big sugar fan.) Highly recommended.

This place & Chef John in particular was very accommodating to our Gluten Free diet. Always have been one of my favorite restaurants in Virginia Beach. Must try the Pepper Jacks(not GF), General Tso’s chicken, & the Mongolian beef! If you do have a gluten sensitivity, they can make most of their dishes with GF soy sauce & rice noodles. Chef John is the man!

I was here during the restaurant week in 2013. I came back again for this week’s restaurant week again for 2014. When you come in, it has a bit of a beach theme inside. Overall, it’s a very casual place, and even a year later, I would still consider this place a hidden gem. Tonight, I came in for dinner during restaurant week. I chose from the three course menu. They were very good about taking care of me with my mushroom allergy. They went as far as to call the person who makes the spring rolls to verify it did not have mushrooms in it. For the appetizer, I had the vegetable spring rolls, after verifying there were no mushrooms as noted above. All of the egg rolls are made fresh daily at the restaurant, and you could tell the freshness in the taste of them. Also, the spring rolls were not greasy at all. For dinner, I had the stuffed shrimp. The shrimp were shaped in fantails. The food came out very hot, which is good. You could see right away at how fresh it was. I started with having some of the crab meat. The crab meat was really good, and you could tell there were no fillers in it as well. The shrimp, just like the crab meat, were hot and fresh. It was cooked perfectly and was very easy to get off the tail. The entrée also comes with white rice and green beans. I’m not crazy about green beans in general. Next time I would just ask to switch for steamed broccoli instead. Time for dessert. I had the Kahlua cake. From where I was sitting, I could see them getting the cake together. The cake was a huge size and really could have been enough for two people. Once the cake was prepped in the back, I saw the server go to the bar area and put the Kahlua on the cake, as well as some on the side to dip in. This cake was delicious and would definitely do that again. If you come during the restaurant week and plan to do the three course, be sure to come hungry because you get a lot of food. I will definitely continue to come back. If you’re looking for something a bit different, this is a good place to go for food. whether you are local or a tourist.

Heard about this place from a friend, I’m really glad we tried this place! We ordered take out. The green beans are delicious, really enjoyed the hot and sour soup, my husband ordered the sweet and sour chicken, I ordered beef and broccoli. Everything was perfect, full of flavor. Everything just tasted fresh. We’ve been looking for a good Chinese restaurant since we moved to Virginia Beach, I think we’ve found our place!

I LOVE this place. I’ve never been disappointed by Boardwok. It’s close to my workplace so it’s a go-to lunch spot for me. I usually order Chicken Lo Mein, Kev’s Favorite Lo Mein or Kev’s Rice Noodle, all of which are delicious, but one day I went out on a limb and tried one of the day’s specials: Mahi Fromage. I kid you not, this was one of the best seafood meals I have ever eaten! And the Kahlua cake is to die for. Portions are large, so come hungry… I often end up taking leftovers back to the office. If you are in the Sandbridge area, definitely pay Boardwok a visit. And even if you’re not, it’s worth the trip!

So good! Came here for the first time based on a friends recommendation. Wonton soup was delicious, and the lunch portion of the sweet and sour chicken was perfect. Just enough crispy breading while still being able to taste the chicken. My coworker had the Mongolian beef, and it was delicious. Tender and a good flavor to the sauce. Will definitely be coming back to this hidden gem!

Love this spot. It is tucked in the corner of a shopping center near the food lion that services Sandbridge, but it is worth searching out if you have a desire for asian cuisine. Kevin Wong does a great job of providing tasty food at a good price. I usually eat here for lunch, and I can’t think of a time when I’ve eaten here when I have been able to eat dinner that night. The size portions are large. I almost always have carried away a leftover box for the fridge. The fried rice combo(shrimp, pork, and chicken all inside) is my favorite and the spring rolls are fab too. The chicken salad is special too. If you are in the neighborhood give it a try!

The Boardwok was a quaint little affair with a friendly staff. I took the staff reccomendation and had a scallop and shrimp stirfry in a delicious brown sauce. As one of the other commentors mentions, a little heavy on the salt, but tasty! I’m looking forward to coming back and trying out another dish.

Sorry to disagree with most of the reviews on here, but this place was not good. Maybe they had an off night or something. If you think oil and salt are food groups, you will probably like this place. For our meal we had: –Tempura shrimp: These were so oily it seemed like they had taken them out of the hot fryer and then poured cold oil on top just to make sure they absorbed the maximum amount of oil. Also the shrimp were not fresh and had that fishy smell to them. A coastal restaurant should be able to tell their shrimp has started heading south. –Pot-stickers: The wrapper was hard and dry, not crispy and moist like it should be. The taste of the pot-sticker by itself was OK, but the sauce they served with it was basically viscous brown salt. It was pretty bad. –She Crab soup: This was probably the best thing we had, but it was still way too salty. –General Tso’s chicken: I’m not really a fan of the dark meat chicken mixed with fat and gristle and fried that a lot of Chinese places use, so this was my bad for not inquiring about it before ordering. It was OK. –Sesame beef special: This was good, and had everything else been this quality it would have been a 4 star place, but by itself was not enough to salvage the rest of the meal. Finally the server overcharged us. It wasn’t intentional, but that is what you get with a written receipt.

Kudos to fellow Unilocal hound Joe D. for recommending this place. The menu is fairly basic American Chinese but everything is executed(almost) perfectly. The freshness really shines through. Prices are good, too. Carbo-kid had the combo lo mein plate which was huge and flavorful. She couldn’t even finish it, which is a rarity when it comes to her and good lo mein. I had a the seafood fried rice. Again, it was a heaping mound of rice loaded with veggies, shrimp, and scallops. Those scallops were superb. Not only were they huge(must have been in the U10 range) but they were seasoned and cooked just the way I like them. The flavor wasn’t masked by the other ingredients at all. The only downcheck were the shrimp. They were cooked properly but were quite underseasoned and lacking flavor. But that was just a minor flaw and one I can easily overlook. We will definitely be coming here on a regular basis.

If you like Chinese food then this is one of the best kept secrets in Virginia Beach. Boardwok is located in the back of a little strip shopping center where the road splits going to Sandbridge on the left and Pungo to the right. The anchor store is a Foodlion. The first thing I noticed about Boardwok’s menu was that it was comparatively small for the average Chinese/American restaurant. I actually said«They don’t have Mongolian Beef». Don’t let that fool you, they do, just not every day. The real trick or should I say treat to eating at Boardwok is their specials menu. It’s located on a small chalkboard near the door to the screened in deck. The specials almost always consist of items that aren’t on the regular menu. Like ‘Mongolian Beef’. So make sure you check it out before ordering. The food there is the most robust Chinese food around IMOP. If your favorite Chiense dish is say Beef & Broccoli, then wait until you taste Boradwok’s version of Beef & Broccoli. That’s all I’m going to say. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve been there. Last but not least, if you or someone with you isn’t a fan of Chiense/American, no problem. Boardwok is also a full service restaurant and there are plenty of choices that even the most picky eater won’t have any trouble finding something on the menu. Give them a try!
