Known simply as the Trolley, the VB Wave has been a staple of the Oceanfront as long as I can remember. As kids(before everyone had a car) we would ride the trolley all day – the prices have gone up a bit since the 90s, but not much – you can still ride all day for just $ 2.00! It’s the perfect weapon against the ridiculous congestion and parking shortages at the beach during the summer – you can ride the trolley up and down the beach and even up to the Virginia Aquarium and to the Hilltop Shopping Center. So whether you’re a local or a visitor, take advantage of the trolley. Save time, money, gas, frustration and a little earth too.

It just wouldn’t be the Oceanfront without the trolley, or VB wave as it’s called, roaming up and down Atlantic Avenue. The little red trolleys run very frequently and can get you from HIlltop east to the Oceanfront and south from 40th street, past first street, to the Virginia Aquarium. My nephew just enjoys the ride so much, we have to get on it when he’s visiting even though we really have no place to go. Though, it might be nice to use the trolley if you are hanging out taking in the Oceanfront dining and shopping all day long because it will move you conveniently down Atlantic Avenue. The trolley is very inexpensive. $ 2.00 will buy you an all-day pass. Otherwise, It’s about a dollar a ride. You can buy a pass at Sunsations which is a tacky tourist shop that I am pretty sure is on every block and impossible to miss. Riding the trolley is something everyone should do once. Even us locals.
