I was traveling to Virginia Beach from Oregon. I was in the middle of a 10 week powerlifting prep and was looking for a gym that I could get a few training sessions in and I stumbled upon Wareings Gym. What a great spot! Was able to get in a great deadlift, bench, and squat sessions. They have everything you need and nothing you don’t. Squat racks, turf, Olympic platforms, chalk etc. The owner Mike is awesome and his staff his super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. You can tell right away they are a family run business that has been around for along time, and for good reason! It’s nice to know there are still some awesome gyms out there that aren’t big national franchises and still care about old school, time tested functional movements! Check them out, definitely worth it!

Nice gym, no water fountain so don’t forget to bring your water bottle. Overall clean but it’s a smaller gym so it can get crowded quickly. If you need to get a workout in over the weekend this place works.

The place is great. Has lot’s of personality and is refreshingly not a corporate clone. Staff is knowledgeable. Everything is clean. Plenty of fitness chicks(its not all dudes). People are nice and of all ages. I was there during peak hours and it wasn’t crowded.

I was in Virginia Beach for business and my friends in town invited me to join them at Wareing’s Gym for a group exercise class. I arrived before them and was greeted by friendly staff who were helpful getting me settled. I had not communicated well with my friends and jumped into the«Industrial Strength» class. This was a small group circuit after a warm up outside. Whew! It was tough, but fun. Jake, who taught the class was encouraging without yelling. He monitored everyone’s form and pushed you to do your max. After that I then jumped into the end of «Survivor» with my friends for the final 20 minutes. I live in Chicago which is a hard core fitness community. But CHItown has nothing on Wareing’s when it comes to tough, fun exercise classes. I really enjoyed both experiences and would strongly recommend either/both. The gym was comfortable but not fancy. I toured the facility after surviving«Survivor» and found all the equipment and space to have a great work out on my own or with a trainer. When back in Va Beach, I’ll definitely drop into Wareing. Big 5 Stars!

This is, hands down, the best gym I’ve ever been to. It’s not a mega gym and there are no gimmicks. It is a place to come do serious work. The staff is friendly, the trainers are knowledgeable and NEVER have that«too good to talk to you» attitude! The people that go to Wareing’s are passionate and serious about fitness, which is a huge motivator. They’ve got all the right equipment for a really good, very intense workout. There is a lot of focus on proper form, doing your best, and then doing better than your best. I haven’t felt as motivated as I do there in a long time. I am so grateful that someone mentioned this place to me in passing and I decided to check it out for myself. Unbeatable, local gym. As long as I’m in the area, I will never go anywhere else.

A couple of months ago, I visited here and I have to say it continues to impress me. The gym is no-nonsense, intense and as genuine as it gets. The owner gave a discount for a two day pass that led me down the rabbit hole of dual kettle bell lunges, Turkish get-ups and burbee nirvana. No latex here boys and girls… oh no. You’ll just find deeper layers of inner strength as you watch fellow members take it to the next level. Inspiring… leave your head bands behind…

My husband belongs to Wareings. I’ve been a few times as his guest and if I weren’t enslaved into a contract with another gym, I probably would have switched to Wareings already. The list of classes they have included with a membership is reason enough for me. They have two classrooms, the second being a beautiful hot yoga studio that is frankly nicer than any of the dedicated hot yoga studios I’ve been to in HR. And the yoga classes are ALL included! And there’s not just one or two a week like you find at most gyms. There’s at least one a day and they’re very professional and geared towards all levels, not just beginners(another thing I’ve found with yoga classes at gyms). Of course they have all sorts of other group fitness classes as well… again, all included. Wareings is a family business. It’s been around forever. Some of the workout equipment isn’t spankin’ new but it does the job. They have a boxing ring. How cool is that? My husband loves working out there because he says the family atmosphere and personal attention are great. He’s gotten a lot of guidance and tips from the staff that have helped with his fitness goals.

I want to start this review by saying that my husband works for Wareing’s Gym. I’m not sure that I’m supposed to be reviewing a business where I’m friends w/the owners, but I feel that I have a right to because I have been working out at Wareing’s since before I knew the owners personally, back when I was only 15 years old. And plus, it’s pretty much impossible to be a member of Wareing’s Gym & not know the owners because this is a family owned & operated business! Everyone who works out at Wareing’s knows(& loves) the owners! But since I am friends w/the owners, I’ll keep my review as unbiased as possible & just list the facts: –Wareing’s is the only local gym I know of that has at least 2 managers in the gym at all times to assist members. Most of the managers are also personal trainers, but while they’re «on the floor» as managers they offer FREE training & assistance. If you want to pay for a more personal one-on-one training session you can definitely do that. But you also have the option to ask Ben, Jake, Lee, Teri, Jesse, & Todd for help while they’re managing the gym. The owners are always there as well to help put members through a workout or assist with whatever you need. –Wareing’s Gym offers yoga, CrossFit, group fitness classes(like Total Body, Fit Moves, Survivor, Spin, Step, Stretch, Tabata, etc.), boot camps, & personal training(individual & group). Stop by Wareing’s & ask about Fit Club if you’re interested in inexpensive group training sessions. –If joining a gym & having a monthly membership is too much of a commitment for you, Wareing’s also has a punch card deal. You can purchase a punch card & use it to work out, take a yoga class, etc; one workout= 1 punch on the card(no membership required). Visit to download a free one-day pass. Just stop by & a manager will show you around the gym & put you through a workout if you’re interested in testing out the gym.
