Had a hankering for a Friday Fish fry and headed over to the Viking Inn. I was a little worried because gun season opens tomorrow and conditions are perfect with a light coating of snow falling. The Viking has been overrun with deer hunters on this night in the past. To my surprise we got seated right away and had a nice plate of fried cod in front of me before I got my first beer down. It was exactly what I needed. Nice flavorful oil laden breading covering beautiful white fish. Perfect crispy fries. Just what I needed.

I really like the people here and the food is just okay. Slow down on the salt… salad bar lettuce was old… ick. But, for the $, it is hard to beat and the service is solid.

This old brick building holds some nostalgia for me, I’ve been coming here since I was… 6? It’s in the middle of a boo-foo town of 4,000ish people… it’s one of the best restaurants in town(which you can decide if that means anything or not). It’s cozy on the inside, there’s a bar side and a dining side and they try to keep it up-to-date. A lot of familiar faces still work here, staff is usually great, they’ll probably know if you’re a visitor. I like the food, at least what I’ve had. I have tried other things but I usually have the broasted chicken and the salad bar, plus I love the bread(hot and freshly baked, it’s delicious). They have prime rib on Saturdays, various specials on drinks, and have I mentioned the broasted chicken? Parking on street or in rear of building. So yeah, go to the Viking.

Restaurants come and restaurants go but the Viking is forever! I’ve been visiting this classic Wisconsin Supper Club for 14 years. Always friendly service though there have been a few slower servers throughout the years. Regular updating to keep it looking fresh… though there’s something about this place, maybe the building, that still gives you a back-in-time vibe. And the menu and quality of food is steady. I love the salad bar. I never have the soup but the family tells me it’s always good. The salad offerings are fresh and varied with the coleslaw being exceptional. Try the broasted chicken… delicious! On the weekends there’s prime rib… excellent! Parking on the street, in the lot across the street and in the lot behind with a door that leads to the bar area. The bar has tables and is darker and quieter than the dining room.
