I can’t say I am that impressed with what is being sold overall. The shops are mostly filled with crafty things and stuff I wouldn’t even consider buying but there are a few gems. If you have an afternoon to get outside and lime to walk then I recommend stopping by. I wouldn’t travel great distances but if you’re in the area a stop may be in order. Recommend with hesitation.

A trip to Volant to visit the 30+ festive shops on Main Street made for a perfect autumn day today. Volant, located about half way between Pittsburgh and Erie, is a wonderful small town full of history and tradition. The Neshannock Creek, a popular spot during trout season, runs near one edge of the Volant Shops. Each shop on Main Street is privately owned and filled to capacity with various seasonal artsy-craftsy goods. The general Volant Shop hours are 10AM-5PM Monday through Saturday and 12PM-5PM on Sundays; however, visitors should understand that each shop may be closed certain days of the week, for certain holidays, due to inclement weather, etc. depending on ownership. The Volant Shops are popular during most of the year, but no doubt autumn, the winter holidays, and Eastertime yield the biggest crowds. Lots of free parking in several gravel lots along Main Street. The Volant Merchant’s Association prints really nice brochures, which are available for free at most stores and contain information about the shops. The 2010 – 2011 brochure I picked up lists special events: 14AUG2010: Harvest Festival 25SEP2010: Witches Night Out 09OCT2010&10OCT2010: Pumpkin Festival 06NOV2010: Pancake & Sausage Festival 13NOV2010&14NOV2010: Christmas on Main Street 03DEC2010: Noël Night 08JAN2011−16JAN2011: January Clearance Sale 05MAR2011: Annual Trout Stocking 16APR2011: Easter Egg Hunt 14MAY2011: Spring Garden Party 25JUN2011: Independence Festival An excursion to the Volant Shops is a great way to celebrate the seasons. If you’re into crafts and/or history, then make an afternoon in Volant a near future priority… unless perhaps you’re «Hoarders”-esque obsessed with crafts; in that case you should stay far away from the Volant Shops!
