Stayed just one night in the unit called the cottage and wished we had been able to stay there a whole week. Very spacious. Plenty of sleeping spots, so good for a family. The futon couch wasn’t the most comfortable for sitting, that was about the only comfort drawback. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. Hosts were great and thankfully called us shortly after we left and were out exploring the volcano park to let us know we had left something very important behind accidentally. The couch was really the only drawback. Would give 4.5 stars if I could. Will more than likely come back some day for an extended stay. Eco-friendly makes it an extra plus.

We stayed in a 1-bedroom cottage next to the main house(Claudia’s cottage) at the end of November. It was clean, cozy, and very comfortable. The cottage was truly wheelchair accessible, a rare find. It had beautiful maple floors, a heating unit in the bedroom, and a dehumidifier, a big plus in the rain forest environment of Volcano. Wifi reception was excellent. The cottage had a kitchen/dining/living area which was handy even though we spent most of our days at Volcanoes National Park. Our hosts had walking sticks, flashlights, jackets and umbrellas available and ready to borrow for day trips. The breakfast lanai was just across the driveway. Cereals, bagels, cinnamon bread, fresh fruit, juice and coffee welcomed us every morning. We truly felt like we were at home. Our hosts were very welcoming; they invited us to get a snack from the breakfast lanai any time. The spa had ample towels and was spotless. A new favorite place to stay!

We spent two weeks here on a geology field trip. The houses were great and the area was quiet and secluded — perfect for us. Volcano National Park is also just a few minutes away. Check out the nearby Thai Thai restaurant too for a tasty meal.

Ehh, I was less than impressed with the property. We booked it on a whim since it was close to the volcano, which was a definite plus. We had to pay an additional fee since we only stayed one night, understandable but A. For the same price could have stayed at a much nicer place and B. Was expecting an actual breakfast instead of some fruits and cereal. We chose to forgo the breakfast and find a place in town. The area was wet and we could smell the mold in our room. Horrible for my allergies. Wasn’t aware we were sharing a bathroom with other guests(for $ 150 you would think you’d get your own) and there was only 2 towels for 4 people. May have been fun with a group of people but to me was just one step above camping. Beds were comfy but I’m baffled that tripadvisor gave this place 4.5 stars. They do offer kamaaina discount of $ 10 so be sure to ask if you’re local.

Do it! Coolest property with multiple houses run by nicest couple. They are very accommodating. Breakfast foods always available, generous variety of choices. Really comfortable beds. Came with big group of people. Was neat having separate houses, exploring paths to each house, Very relaxing and rejuvenating place. I recommend!

neat concept /idea. very eco-friendly people. the sheets /towels are all washed probably in biodegradable soap, and definitely line dried(ie — no fabric softener /rough), all of the food scraps are fed to the pigs /ducks /cows. if you want a secluded area to go on vacation then this is your place. it isn’t a 5 star hotel, it it is a simple clean guest house in the hills to get away from it all. you won’t hear any sounds of the city — a true getaway. as a side note, they do have free wifi and breakfast consisting of bagels, muffins, an assortment of fresh fruit, coffee, hot cocoa, cereal, and some funky oatmeal concoction. on a second side note, our sheets were damp, probably because they were line dried, and it has been fairly rainy, so thus a dampish /musty effect. not a deal killer though.
