This fascinating little publishing company which started in San Francisco and now resides in the tiny foothill burg of Volcano is probably best known for it’s books on domestic violence, a field it sort of pioneered in the 60’s and 70’s. They publish a number of those and publisher Ruth Gottstein has been a real leader in that area. They have historically also been first to publish other controversial social issue books. Outside of that, they have a number of really interesting short books such as the Coit Tower murals book with great pictures of the murals, one of which was painted by the publisher’s father(Zakheim). Also of interest is a fascinating book just reprinted about ghost towns in the gold country. I could not put it down, it contains so much neglected history. They sell directly, on Amazon and at bookstores and are working on more unusual and interesting books all the time.
