Makaha Marketplace located at the corner of Farrington Highway and Makaha Valley Road. I remember back in the late 1980’s that this area was home to Cornets which sadly went out of business. When the Makaha 7 – 11 went under renovation a few years after Cornets shut down the workers and the store were temporary relocated to the marketplace for business. Now that 7 – 11 is back up and running at its current location it was an opportunity for other people to setup their businesses at the marketplace. The Wash Spot which is the laundromat that serves the residents of Makaha. It could also serve as an alternate to the Waianae Washerette or Sun’s Laundromat. Makaha Chop Suey for Chinese take-out. Makaha Ohana Market the competitor to Makaha 7 – 11 in beer and cigarette sales. 808 Grace Fighters a jiu jitsu mixed martial arts studio for individuals who want to take self defense classes. Paradise Isle which offers tourists the chance of renting kayaks, surf boards, stand up paddle boards, and customers are able to buy souvenirs as well as shave ice on a hot sunny day. Cyber West which I believe people can go to get their computers fix… not quite sure though. Correction… it is a internet café. Update: This business is CLOSED. Makaha Art Gallery which I believe opens once a month. I may have to double check on the hours. I also know there is a thrift shop for people who are looking for deals on cheap items. I can’t forget about the Lei’s fashion clothing store. There are offices for a real estate agency, mental health center, substance abuse center, as well as gathering place for worship. Slowly the store fronts or office spaces at the marketplace is being used. I hope to see more businesses set up at the marketplace. Only time will tell.
