Don’t know. Don’t care enough. I will never know how the ice cream is at Dave’s. I really wanted to try it because it’s a local shop vs a chain. They close at 7pm which isn’t posted on their website btw so I missed it the first try. Second time I called before going which is when I found out they close at 7. I planned the third trip to be sure to get there before closing. I arrived at 643 walked into the shop no one was there — no customers no one behind the counter. I noticed the tiny«cash only» sign at the counter and panicked but remembered seeing the ATM right outside the door, thank goodness. However as I stood waiting for my cash to be dispensed the girl from the shop(who followed me as I walked out) stepped out of the store, looked right at me and stepped back in, locked the door and turned out the light. My ATM receipt is timed stamped 647. Other reviewers were right. Horrible customer service. I will never go back.

In 1987, my husband and I considered buying Dave’s in Waimanalo. Lord, I LOVED Dave’s Ice Cream, especially Coconut Macadamia! I have lived and traveled to many places, since, and have some fav gelato spots(Prague, Miami, Winston Salem). I gave up on ice cream, because none could satisfy like Dave’s. I went back once, in 2009, and it was just too good to believe. Yes, I regret being too fearful to become a business owner, LOL! I miss Hawaii, and Dave Leung’s fabulous ice cream!

On Sunday 24th of January I was ridding with our motorcycle group We all stopped for Ice Cream at Dave’s. While the attendant served all of my buddies(I was the last in line), I ordered a single waffle cone with Hawaiian Mud Pie. The clerk said«Please». So I repeated my order. She stated, NO, don’t you say PLEASE when you ask for something? I was taken aback by this lesson in manners from the teen server. I don’t believe any of my fellows asked for their frosty treat with similar words, but I do understand that being courteous is good. However, the clerk made NO effort all to accomplish my requested order for ice cream, I was REFUSED Service. Nice going Dave’s. You need some employee ‘customer service’ training. I’ll be in touch. ;-) Won’t ever go there, as Jack in the Box has a great shake for a reasonable price. Next time don’t have your employees REFUSESERVICE to anyone. I think is against the law!

this is the worst sundae I’ve ever seen and I tasted. She filled the cup halfway and just peanuts. not coming back.

We stopped at the shopping plaza while on a Robert’s Hawaii tour of Oahu. Eager for something sweet we went into the ice cream parlor. The attendant was nice and let us taste several ice creams. None really called my attention since they lacked flavor. We were embarrassed to just walk out without any ice cream so I ended up with chocolate macadamia nut and my BFF ate the banana flavor. It wasn’t worth the calories :(

Ice cream is great. My favorites are the Purple Yam, Cookies and Cream, and Mango. However, the service. not so good. The last two times I have come in, the girl behind the counter didn’t so much as crack a smile or say a word. From beginning to end. Literally. I walked in the door, she stood behind the counter and stared at me, gave me a couple samples when I asked for them, handed me my cone that I ordered, rang up the sale and just took my money. didn’t even so much as tell me the total.

They have some awesome interesting flavors here like the Okinawa Sweet Potato. The only reason I’d give them a four stars is because staff wasn’t all that cracked up to be and their ice creams are overly saturated with artificial coloring.

Bomb Icecream, cheap price, Ridiculously Amazing flavors! I used to work at Coldstone in Kailua but I honestly recommended Dave’s to any and every Icecream lover This place is a must try.

I wanted old school favorite and Dave’s is the one. I was hoping for some Ube ice cream and they did not have any. Instead I got the Kulolo ice cream, single size, because it was different. It’s coconut and taro and it was delicious. If you do not have a heavy sweet tooth this is the ice cream for you. Price is fairly reasonable for Hawaii prices. I got a single for $ 3.15.

A decent spot for an ice cream. This is probably the cleanest Dave’s Ice Cream that I’ve seen so far and definitely much cleaner than the places in Pearl City and Aiea. The store could definitely use some updating, though. Especially the old faded posters and maps that were just taped to the wall. Not the sight I want to see when hungry for some delicious ice cream. Speaking of delicious ice cream. The sign outside says«Made Fresh» but my ice cream had some ice crystals in. That means that it probably is not that fresh. Overall, Dave’s is a great choice of you have a taste for Hawaiian Ice Cream, but this is mainly because there is no alternative. I would definitely pick Dave’s over Cold Stone or Baskin Robins.

Tropical flavors such as pineapple coconut, lilikoi(passion fruit), kulolo(taro and coconut), Haupia(coconut), ube(Japanese sweet potato), Lychee, Macadamia Nut, and Mango are YUM! Regular flavors like chocolate, coffee, and vanilla are delicious, too! Yesterday, I had the layered Halohalo which is shaved ice with canned fruits(mainly azuki beans and coconut gel) and a scoop of ube ice cream which can be all mixed together. My friend had 2 scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. There are boba drinks, rootbeer floats and other desserts available. The service was efficient and pleasant! She even gave us a cup of water to go! Remember that it’s Cash Only… I believe that there are other locations in Pearl City and Waipahu, but this location is in the rural town of Waimanalo, affectionately known as «Nalo». It’s in a strip mall between Subway and a crack seed store, behind a Jack in the Box. There’s free parking right in the front. Drive with aloha and kokua… and watch out for the potholes!

I normally would of put 5 stars because I always come here considering the fact I live right up the street but today I came in for an acai bowl(which was my first time getting acai bowl from him cause I normally buy ice cream) so I ordered it the girl who made it was using the blender and a wooden spoon so in the beginning she was turning off the machine to stick spoon in and push everything down then she got lazy and put the spoon in when the blender Was still blending I heard a loud notice but didn’t say anything paid for it went home was eating it and bit down on a piece of wood which hurt like hell… I’m already mad we call them they don’t know what to say so I ask for a refund over the phone. On my way driving there my niece was searching for more in my bowl and found big pieces of wood. So I get there I have the pieces of wood I tell her what happened and she had an attitude like she didn’t care u know how mad I was I was gonna use my refund to buy ice cream from them but her attitude just lost them a regular customer and instead of apologizing she was like clueless so I’m like where’s the spoon I saw the spoof and half the spoon was gone!!! IF U COMEHEREJUSTORDERTHEICECREAM and if you get wood in your acai bowl they will act like they don’t care :( *****PICTUREOFWOODISUPLOADEDTOTHEIRPHOTOSCOULDNTADDONHERE

Decent spot for Ice Cream. The ice cream selection is quite good, however the store needs to be updated. The inside is unkept, the store seems very old, the menu and selection seems outdated. The fact they don’t take credit card speaks volumes on «not keeping up with the times». The last time I was in here, a lady brought her Dog in. Staff allowed the dog inside while the lady was eating her ice cream. Definitely unsanitary.

Best green tea and ube ice cream to date. It was so creamy, thick and dense. It really is true to taste. Loved the strong flavor of the green tea.

Just the fact that this is Dave’s Ice Cream is enough said! I’ve enjoyed Dave’s ice cream for most of my life, I consider it to be somewhat a luxury. You really only get this at a restaurant unless you go to their location in Waimanalo(hidden behind Jack in the Box next to Ohana Karaōke). I’ve been here a few times in my life and never knew how extensive their menu was! You can get anything(desert wise) ranging from cheesecakes to boba drinks, shave ice, and they’ll even help you out with a rootbeer float! Next time I venture into Dave’s I’ll be asking for my own special coke float(chocolate ice cream and a coke) mm! Not for those who are watching their sugar intake: P Anyways, back to Dave’s shop. It’s well kept, clean, and friendly staff. Decent amount of seating inside especially great spot after cruising at Sherwoods, Bellows, Sandys or Maks. Lots of parking. Just gotta be careful as it’s not really well marked so those visiting might have trouble following the flow, drive with caution always! Also keep in mind the traffic in Nalo, especially on the weekends. It’s one lane going either way and people stop to let others pass(thumbs up when I’m not in a rush to get anywhere). Bottom line, you can’t go wrong with Dave’s!

Daves is good, they have more Hawaiian favors then the traditional. Service was a little slow, and they only take cash.

I just love Dave’s ice cream. This location is nothing fancy. But that is hardly a factor. It’s clean, there is indoor seating(unfortunately none outdoors). The ice cream is FANTASTIC. The only ice cream I’ve had that is better than Dave’s I bought from a guy at the Mililani Farmer Market on Sunday mornings. I’m pretty sure that ice cream is made out of magic, but I digress. Dave’s has the most variety, and excellent quality. The employees are very quick and helpful and friendly. My absolute FAVORITE flavor is the Kulolo(taro and coconut). It is fantastic. Truly. For any North Easterner haoles like myself who know what Stewart’s is, the cotton candy ice cream at Dave’s rivals Stewart’s! It’s extremely good. The Kalua Fudge is great too for chocolate lovers. But their are so many options, and they are happy to oblige you with a sample if you ask. I highly recommend stopping in!

Service: it was busy but the girl was working as fast as she could because she was by herself. Food: the shaved ice was good and she put a good amount of flavor in it. The ice cream I ate toasted macadamia nut ice cream and it was really good, I also sampled the UBE flavor or also known as the purple yam. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was really yummy! Good prices for good ice cream!

I think this is the last Dave’s Ice Cream location on the island. There used to be one on Kapahulu if I remember correctly… but I think it closed. Therefore, I was so excited to come by to get my creamy, rich ice cream fix all the way in Waimanalo! Woo! I had two scoops which came out to be a little more than $ 5. I had the Green Tea and Kauai Turtle. Honestly, it wasn’t as good as I remembered it to be, but maybe I had hyped it up in my head too much on the way there. It was good, just not worth driving all the way to Nalo for. The service was pretty non-existent. We ordered, paid and left. No greeting, no thank you, no smile. There are a few tables here for patrons to enjoy their desserts, but the fluorescent lighting, empty store and unhappy cashier didn’t exactly translate into a welcoming environment that I wanted to stay any longer in. I’ll probably be back when I’m in Waimanalo, especially because this is the only dessert establishment in the area. However, I will probably take my ice cream to go in order to spare me the unfriendliness of the cashier and the fluorescent lighting leading to my blindness.
