Mystic Salon

Great salon, Aveda salon or not. I moved to the big island this year from Washington state and found out they’re only two Aveda salons on the Big island (only participating Aveda Salon’s at this time). Aveda hair care professionals receive continuing education in Aveda hair color, cutting and styling techniques. Mystic (Candice is the salon owner) even called my previous Aveda salon in Washington state in order to get my highlight color formulation. If you’re here on vacation or here for the winter she can do the same for you.
After a visit to the salon I felt newly refreshed and human again. Candice did a wonderful job in refreshing my highlights and trimming up my hair with a nice blunt cut.

Mystic Hair & Lashes carries most of your favorite Aveda hair and skincare products. If you’re on vacation and/​or are spending the winter here I would highly recommend this salon in Waimea (also known as Kamuela in the Aveda directory).This salon caries a fairly large in-​stock inventory of Aveda gift packages and/​or small stocking stuffers during the holiday season (call to inquire). Aveda makes great moisture lotion products for anytime, especially after beach/​sun care. I personally love the rosemary/​mint collection. Aveda’s brilliant damage control hair care line has a leave in spray, which has both UV sun protection and thermal protectants that’ll provide much needed moisture and shine for your hair before and after a day in the tropic sun.
Candice also recommends the only other participating Aveda salon here on the big Island called Headline News, which is located in Hilo, HI.
I don’t consider this salon pricey as I paid about the same price (or more) for similar services in Portland, OR and Woodinville, WA. I was able to restock my Aveda favorites that I had to leave behind when I moved, because liquids aren’t allowed in shipping containers.

Called at 10:00 Wednesday morning. No human answered the phone. Left a message. It is now 4:30. No call back. They must be really busy and not in need of new clients which is nice. Right?

I have been looking for an Aveda salon close to the Kohala coast and was delighted to discover Mystic Hair. Nikki, the colorist is experienced and regularly attends Aveda classes. She is pleasant and gets the holistic, green, Aveda vibe. The shop could be redecorated in a more modern way, but despite the lack of aesthetics I’m very happy with my color which doesn’t always happen when you’re on vacation.
