Nanding’s Bakery

My auntie lives in Waipahu and often invites me to dinner. Looking around her town, I check on my Unilocal app for dessert ideas so I can bring a treat for her. Up pops Nanding’s Bakery and I wonder if it’s the same as the Kalihi location…
Using my GPS (I’m a townie), I find the small shop on Farrington Highway and park for free right in front of the bakery! Entering the door, I look at the case of goodies, but don’t see any Custard Pie. That’s what I want because I have purchased that treasure for $ 8 in town! I maneuver around the other customers (this location is really tiny) to make sure my eyes aren’t tricking me… Still no custard pie in sight! I ask the friendly salesperson if they have any…
YES!!!
She retrieves a slightly warm, fresh pie from the back!!! Same price and same great quality! Happily, I drive to auntie’s house and share the yummy Custard Pie with her. She asked where I got it from (because it is so GOOD) and she’s surprised that the bakery is so close to her house!

Next lesson: Auntie has some Spanish Rolls — sweet, buttery rolls — only $ 1 for three!!! What a deal! While I’m there, I might throw in some ensemadas, pianomo rolls, and hopia — Why not, right? Especially now, since they accept credit cards! Woot woot!

I come to Nanding’s whenever I’m in Waipahu for their famous Spanish rolls.
Due to construction, make sure to not missed your turn to the shopping center where this is located of you’ll have to drive a little bit and do a couple of u-​turns to come back. Yes, such a hassle.
There are not a lot of parking space but I always seem to get lucky to get one right in front of the bakery.
Nanding’s have lots of baked good to choose from but my fave– SPANISH ROLLS! I could eat 3 in one seating (3 for a $ 1) and probably can eat more if k didn’t have self-​control. I also like their haupias. I haven’t tried their other goodies but I’m sure they’re all good. I just love bread in general so it’s for you to check this place out and be the judge.
Customer service is good and they only take cash. The bakery is pretty small but service is fast.

I’m in love with their Spanish rolls. If I had no self control I could eat 2 dozen rolls. They are so dangerous when they are fresh. So warm, soft, and buttery. I try to buy extra so that I can have leftover for the next day. Yes, they are not as soft but let me tell you… Oooh… Spread some peanut butter and jelly in the middle and you got one tasty snack. I’m so glad it close enough that i don’t mind driving here but not so close that it becomes a daily habit

Best spanish rolls ever! This place is tiny but has the best freshly baked bread I have ever had. I get the spanish rolls, they are delicious and put any the olive garden’s breadsticks to shame. They are a bit sweater than a traditional breadstick. You can purchase 3 for 1 dollar. They come out hot and good ready to eat.
I was kind of disappointed that they were thrown in a bag and smashed a bit. So be careful when you handle the paper bag. They were so fresh out of the oven, they were still hot.
If you are visiting the islands you have to try their Spanish rolls at least once.

I’ve always loved their Spanish rolls. I’m usually the one to eat them (since someone else usually buys) but this time I actually purchased for some friends. Nandings had two dozen rolls made for me FRESH, and it only took 4 minutes. Tasted soooo good! And for 3 rolls for $ 1, how can you go wrong? It’s an affordable, and simple pleasure!
I also bought an ube ensamada and LOVED it. Perfect amount of sweetness!
I will definitely be back!

I’m not in Waipahu very often, but if I ever am, it’s either because I’m at Tanioka’s or this place. I’m pretty straight forward when it comes to pastries. I know what I like and I’ll get tons of it, regardless of whether I can finish it or not. I only come here for Nanding’s famous Spanish Rolls. The rolls kind of ooze this buttery goodness in the center although it isn’t a filling of any sort. The bottoms of the rolls are usually slightly crispy and sticky (as if it has honey on them or something). The rolls are slightly sweet, but extremely addicting, even for someone like me, who enjoys more exciting flavor profiles. I’ve even about 20 Spanish Rolls by myself in one day before… It’s just THAT tasty!
TIP: They are priced at 3 for a $ 1, so get at least a dozen. They aren’t that big in size, so you’ll be eating at least a few. If you buy fewer than a dozen, let’s say anywhere from one to half a dozen, chances are the aunties working will put them in a plastic bag for you. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t like my rolls to get cold and soggy. But at least more than half a dozen and ask them to put them in a box for you. They will line the box with foil, so the bottoms of your rolls stay safe… crispy and gooey! They accept debit cards, so don’t worry if you don’t have cash.

I’m not really a sweet tooth, but in this pregnancy I am!!! I wanted a tender baked good, sweet as can be lol. Heard alot about their spanish rolls, so I had to try it. I bought 2 dozen, my children loved it! I thought it was good. I will definitely update to 5 stars when I return and if I find something I like lol! But they are great so far, just not what I was looking for.

My sister bought hopia baboy n balintawak n send it to me here in Florida n they are the best I ever had. I have tasted from various bakery n this is the best. Nanding’s bakery thank you!

Spanish rolls are to die for. 3 rolls for $ 1. The Nanas are friendly and very fast workers. Just love them. Usually it’s very busy but because of the rail construction, they’ve been a little slow. So peps. .go and support local businesses!

Came here around noon for a co-worker’s going away potluck. I came in to get 2 dozen Spanish rolls and I was in & out the door in less than 3 minutes. Fast & friendly service! :) Never tried anything besides the Spanish rolls, but since they’re soooo goood, I’m too afraid to try anything else!
Oh, & they now take credit cards, so no need to stop by the ATM before coming here.

When I was still in the workforce, we’d often have management and staff meetings that included a coffee break. You’d be wrong to think that we were snacking on doughnuts, cookies, pies or cakes from local bakeries. Instead, several of my co-​workers would routinely bring in fresh baked and hot from the oven Spanish rolls or ensemadas from Nanding’s Bakery. Nanding’s Spanish rolls are probably their most popular and most requested pastry at office or family gatherings.
Over the years, I managed to make my way down to both locations of Nanding’s to sample more of their yumminess. The pastries are not decorated or elegant by any stretch as these are more bread products that you would find in panadería or boulangerie.
As you approach the bakery, the aroma of baking breads or pastries lure you in. You walk into this small little bakery space and within 2 steps, you’re right at the counter. Your eyes will begin to dance with glee as you survey the displays of fresh baked Filipino baked goods such as plain butter-​sugar topped or filled ensemadas, hopia (Filipino-​Chinese bean filled pastry), butter rolls, ube (purple yam) or macapuno (coconut) filled «pockets» and the pudding-​filled balintawak bread (pan de pula or Regla). There is a large menu board that lists the pastry prices and the ever-​popular Spanish rolls. Luckily, service is friendly and quick because all you can think about is making your selections then greedily munch them down with a nice hot cup of Café du Monde coffee.
But, where are the Spanish rolls? They are not displayed but are kept in the back and sold for 3/​$ 1. All you have to do is place your order with one of the cheery ladies, she’ll «disappear» to the back and return with your still warm rolls. The buttery and slightly sweet rolls are a perfect compliment to your hot morning beverage or nice afternoon snack.

I was privileged enough to live a walking distance from the original Nanding’s Bakery while I was growing up. After moving to the Leeward area, the convenience of getting Spanish rolls (at 3 for a dollar, if I may add) was something I REALLY missed. This location, however, solves all of that.
In my opinion, Nanding’s has the best Spanish rolls. They’re always hot, always consistent, and everything you could ever ask for. Seriously. They’re so good that it’s hard to eat these in moderation. I’m usually really good at stopping when I should, but these are my weakness. It’s as if they bring out a monster within me.
If you haven’t had the chance to have a Spanish roll from Nanding’s, please do yourself a favor and drive to either of the two locations, and experience heaven on earth.

Nanding’s Bakery is synonymous with Spanish Rolls. Buy a bunch, they are cheap, tasty crowd pleasers, perfect if you need something small to serve with coffee or refreshments for a meeting. Along those lines their other buttery bread products are good too, try the Ensaimada, the Butter Rolls, and the Flavored Loaves. The prices are super affordable compared to designer bakerys. Definitely give Nanding’s a try the next time you’re in the area.

If I had time everyday to go to Nandings in Waipahu or Kalihi for that matter for a quick pick up of Spanish rolls I seriously would. They’re crazy addicting. I purposely buy two dozen of that buttery goodness so it comes in a box. If you have any kind of get together in the morning or stopping by before the office, just get everyone some. They’ll all be super happy. Everyone loves these Spanish rolls!

Hot & fresh, room temperature, cold & a day old… Even heated in a microwave for 10 – 15 seconds. Nanding’s Spanish Rolls are the best in town! Sweet, buttery deliciousness. 3 for $ 1!
I remember being in elementary school & buying these Spanish rolls at the open market in Kalihi. You know… Between Kalakaua Park & Kalihi Kai Elementary. Anyway, my point is I’ve loved these things for a long time & cannot limit myself to just one… Unfortunately (for my not-​so beach body).
Nanding’s also bakes & sells many other goodies. The ensemadas are HUGE! The savory bread items like the ham & cheese, hot dog, & the corned beef rolls are pretty delish as well.
I def recommend this place to my friends & family near & far. Get some :)

Don’t know what SPANISH rolls are doing in a FILIPINO bakery, but these are apparently like crack, and people order ‘em by the buttload. Nanding’s is just order/​pick up service, and there’s no dining area. Ladies are very sweet and helpful too,
People in front of us ordered boxes of these things, but we just wanted to taste the love, so I ordered four… it automatically changed to six when the lady said they were three for a dollar?! Man, it was love at first bite, but I’m glad I’m a few thousand miles away! I’ll just enjoy a few every time I come home…
Warm little bread fingers doused with butter and sugar? Its actually that Filipino Star Margarine which is worse than butter, and not good for you in the long run.(you have been warned) No wonder my mom calls them a «heart attack waiting to happen» ALOHA!!!
