Really tiny place in Waipahu near Thelma’s. I got some mini baked manapua, gau gee, and pork hash for a gathering with friends. A week before the party, I went down there to make the order and they were kind enough to let me taste a pork hash since I hadn’t had that before from there. I ordered two dozen of each and a piece of rice cake to take with me for the road… they were also very kind to give me the rice cake on the house. :) Everything I ordered was good but I esp liked the mini baked manapuas. The bun was soft and the pork filling was very flavorful and were just the right size for finger food style eating. I’d say someone could easily eat one in two or three bites(or one monsterous bite if you’re a oinker like me.) The pork hash was pretty much the standard pork hash you’d get at any decent dim sum place and the gau gee had a good amount of filling in it. I hate when places fill their gau gee or won tons with a tiny amount of meat, argh. Anyway, I definitely want to try some of their other dim sum stuff so will be back for sure.

On Oahu for family trip and had a Dim Sum brunch. Saw Ocean dim sum on Unilocal,so we gave it as try. They take phone orders in advance for pick up. Best Cantonese dim sum I have had in a long time. SoCal no longer has a good Cantonese restaurant. Siu Mai was top notch. Family loved everything. Will have again next time in area. The customer service was great too!

I love this place. I first tried their pork hash and manapua when my parents brought ut home one day and it tasted so good I needed to get more. I finally got some and I’m in love. The prices are pretty fair and the taste is just excellent. Its not your sit in kind of dimsum and its great. The food is delicious and you won’t stop eating it. I can’t wait to go again.

Who would have thought there is good dimsum in Waipahu? Great deal only $ 20.50 for all of this. Since I had a hot deal HI voucher $ 6 of this was free. There is less food selection than Chinatown but still decent in my eyes. Got 3 egg tart, 3 charsiu roll, 3 hotdog roll, 3 gindui(coconut) 3 mini Manapua, 5 half moon. Yummy in my tummy!

I went to this place to try their shrimp dumplings but was let down to know that they no longer make them? How can you not sell dim sum when its part of your name lol idunno but I did order a few baked manapuas which was good. Not spectacular but just good. The pork hash. I really wanted to love it because I paid $ 4.50 for 5 of them but it was missing salt, very bland. I ate one and gave the rest away. Very disappointing, normally I dont even share my pork hash for nothing ! Anyways, this was just one of those places I had on my foodie bucket list, which is now removed from my bookmarks.

I had a hankering for taro gwok and for the life of me could not get my lazy butt to Chinatown. So I turned to Unilocal and crossed my fingers that Ocean Dim Sum would temporarily satisfy my random craving. The good news is that parking is ample in the center. The girl at the register speaks English so I don’t have to try futzing around with Chinese. And they do have a decent selection of dim sum options. The not so great news is that out of my order of taro gwok(it comes with three per order for a little under $ 3) one of the gwoks was filled entirely with a piece of fat. I literally spit it out and sat in the parking lot-internally debating if I should bother bringing it in and asking for a replacement. In the end, I decided to accept my loss and move on. Lesson learned-the food quality isn’t the best here. Oh, and I think they put water chestnut into the mixture for the filling(can’t say that I really liked that).

Family run hole-in-the-wall dim sum place with good food! I usually go to Chinatown(or if I’m really lazy and craving while I shop at Ala Moana, Jade dynasty) for my dim sum but my beau and I were excited to learn there was a place here in Waipahu. Overall pretty good, but my beau did not like that the pork hash has a bit of crunch to it, but LOVED the chicken feet. I liked the pork hash, thought the flavor was great and that they did a good job on the shrimp dumplings. We also got the mochi rice and look funn(shrimp) but they were nothing to write home about. They only have about a dozen choices but I’ll take what I can get out here! Plus flavors were good and the customer service friendly and quick. Call ahead to avoid the wait. But the couch they have in the tiny little shop is(though probably from a car) pretty dang comfortable. They also have baked goods like almond cookies. Prices are pretty ok, not dirt cheap. And because they are located in the part of the shopping center that has multiple now defunct shops, parking was easy when we went. We will probably go again.

*update* Wish Unilocal had half ratings, because I’d dock my review down to 3.5 stars(but I won’t change my rating and round down). They don’t make the shrimp dumplings anymore. =/ Location: Adjacent to the shopping center with Thelma’s and Leeward Drive Inn. Closer to Shell gas station. There’s reserved parking in front just for the shop, which is great since the Thelma’s parking lot is always full. I found out about this new dim sum place in Waipahu from HotDealsHawaii, where I purchased 2 deal vouchers. There’s no dining area or dining tables at this shop; it’s pretty much just a takeout counter setup. Get your dim sum to go and eat somewhere else. I tried the pork hash, half moon, and shrimp dumplings. The pork hash and shrimp dumplings were both really good and tasted fresh and flavorful. I wasn’t a huge fan of the half moon dumpling though(flavors were too strong for my taste). They had a lot of other things such as spring rolls, gau gee, baked manapua, deep fried pork hash, and egg custard tarts. My dim sum palate is small, so I’ll stick with regular pork hash and shrimp dumplings. Wish they had deep fried shrimp puffs and spinach and scallop/shrimp dumplings though. Overall, the value is really good for the taste, and I’d definitely come back for more takeout. :)
