Our party of two arrived just as this place was getting slammed on a Saturday dinner rush. Waited an incredible 3 minutes before being addressed and seated quickly among the super pace of the staff. Food was pretty good, although we were just looking for simple and fast and thus limited our order to wings and a salad. Service was outstanding. As out of towners, we were given some good insights into local attractions. The bill was more than fare, and the place itself was clean and welcoming. We were able to meet one of the owners who also happens to be a very kind person. I would absolutely visit again!

The place wasn’t busy and we still had to wait for over an hour for our food to be served. When we did get out meals the steak and burger were totally undercooked and the pot pie was ice cold. It also took forever to get our drinks. To their credit the waitress was kind and didn’t charge us for the burger or steak. Not a good experience.

Great food, friendly staff had dinner and came back for breakfast. Breakfast was definitely better then dinner. Not that many options but fresh local food. Had burger for dinner which was pretty good nice thick and served on English muffin and their fries are crispy and fresh. For breakfast I had French toast which was awesome, my boyfriend bad the egg Benedict which he says he enjoyed just as much. Coffee was not the greatest, weak and watered down, other than that no complaints!

Not great. They have a small menu with very little variety and not much interesting food(save for deep fried pickles which frankly is a no thank you). Very limited vegetarian options. Service is ok but the food is just not that good and left everyone in in our party if four thinking«meh.»

The Elusive Moose was the perfect setting for our rehearsal dinner. Having the rehearsal across the street(literally) at Lareau Farm, it was a short walk for a fantastic dinner. Chef Chris Harmon and ownership were extremely accommodating in planning and execution. I listed our budget and Chris gave me plenty of options to keep us under that number. He was prompt in our correspondence and has a genuine passion for the delicious food he creates. The barbecue chicken was phenomenal! The restaurant is cozy, laid-back, and has a great deck away from the road. All the local craft brews were available. We also chose to have our after-party there since John Law in Waitsfield is strict about His noise ordinance. Ending the wedding band at 10pm in July with nowhere to go would have been a disaster; luckily, people could hoof it across the street to the Moose – or in my case, swim across the Mad River – for continued merriment. Thank you, Elusive Moose, for helping to arrange an unforgettable occasion, and congratulations on your write-up in the New York Times!

The place has a cute name and is nicely decorated. When I went with friends, we were starving and the food took an entire hour to reach our table after ordering– the waitress actually seemed to be avoiding us so she wouldn’t have to show up empty handed. It was very busy and short staffed but it was a little ridiculous. The food was pretty good but not worth that long of a wait, so go at a time when its not busy or find a different place!

It was ok. Server seemed really tired and out of it. We got served the wrong food and had to send it back. then they offered us free dessert which we accepted but the strawberry shortcake was made with a scone that was really overcooked and really stale. The whole experience was strange but the chicken they have was amazing

Loved this place. The owner, Marty, is super friendly and came out to speak with us. The food was great as was the service. The beer was pretty darn good too. I highly recommend the Elusive Moose!

Called Saturday at 6 and told If a party of two, just come in and we will seat you. no reservation needed. Hostess was curt and didn’t take our names, said we could wait at bar. 30 minutes later after speaking with her, realized she hadn’t put us on her list. 1.5 hrs later, finally got a spot at bar. Food rather good. Got a steak which was well Prepared, mashed potatoes and carrots. The veggies were very good. Music a cross between heavy metal and pop. Crowded, small, avocado green walls in bar with too bright lights. Understaffed. If you come here, make reservations. Don’t expect too much. If you can deal with the crowd and limited space and staff the food is good.

Don’t be fooled by the name; this establishment offers interesting upscale food with good presentation at reasonable prices. It is a small casual upscale pub environment with friendly good service. It stands out among the valley eating establishments — worth a visit.

The new ownership has made all the difference in this place! Great food and so many options! The corn and black bean cake appetizers were great and their burgers were fabulous! We saw their prime rib special and it looked awesome. For dessert we tried the pumpkin crème brûlée — A+! We will remember this place on our next visit.

The pork shank was delicious. Then oyster corn cakes were very tasty as well. Everyone was very friendly and loved the intimacy of the restaurant. I highly recommend eating here!

I have eaten at every restaurant in this space since the early 1990s and this is one of the best. We went for breakfast and the menu was mercifully manageable but still had the classics and a few surprises. I had a goat cheese, tomato, & spinach omelet, which was a little spendy for an omelet but it was big and they were generous with the extra toppings. I was just delighted to have goat cheese in eggs, who knew how good that combo would be! My friend had poached eggs and hash that she seemed pleased with. It was the first hash I ever tried and it was delicious. We both loved the spicing of the home fries. I know I’d go back.

Elusive Moose Waitsfield A surprisingly superb roadside eatery that foodies will love.(Under new ownership since December 2013.) I expected a simple eggs and bacon breakfast place but instead had the Portobello Mushroom tart with arugula and balsamic vinaigrette and maple syrup on fillo pastry then meatloaf and mushrooms with truffle oil with home cut fries. Both were masterfully prepared.

Food is ok. They should try to use more of the food made from local farms. They are too heavy into meat. Would be nice to have some other options.

Great food and super nice food. The owner takes real pride in the establishment and that all guests are treated well and it really showed when spoons had been forgotten when we got our desserts, he apologized and comped us drinks. Can’t get better service than that.

First of all, the staff rocks. Bartenders making unique concoctions on their own, taking care of every aspect of your meal. Food is backed by a great chef. Crab/lobster cake was chunky, the real deal. Fondue was silky, touch of Kirsch, perfect. Duck and mushroom gnocchi were great, although a bit salty. Would be back ASAP
