Tried this winery today. Nice reds not a bad one of the ones I tried. Zin, Franc, Sunset, and Cab all nice flavors I would rate them all high 90’s point wise definitely worth the stop if you like a good red. I am definitely going back to enjoy this nice hidden gem, and try the food next.

Wine. Jello. Shots. Get a platter of shots and a platter of cheese and you’re good to go. As for the wine, skip it. That is not so good. I feel like Matus suffers from the same affliction that many of the other wineries in Western Ohio suffer from: an inability to make anything that doesn’t taste ridiculously syrupy sweet and an inability to produce wines of complexity and depth. Sure, you can differentiate between red or white but that’s it. As for the drier wines, even they always feel like they’re fighting to be sweet. At the end of our tasting, everything ended up tasting the same– flat, dull, and flabby. Also, this may make me a snob but tasting wine in plastic cups? Works for jello shots, but not for wine.

Very good place to go and always some kind of entertainment. Bob Matus is a very nice person and very informative. Wines are very well priced. It’s always a hopping place on the weekends. The Vidal and niagra are my favorites. Love this place.

Matus winery is a great place to go anytime there open, and yes they are a different type of winery to go, don’t expect some quiet place to fall asleep at, it’s a place were there’s a younger crowd go to on the weekends, live bands, good food, lots of mixed crowds both young and old, some of ohios best wine is made here an the surrounding areas. Free wine tours anytime bob matus is around he’ll answer all your questions about his wines, he carries a full line of wine making kits, ask about the wine club that attends there, he caters to groups and clubs, wonderful place, give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

Wife and I ventured to Matus for what we thought would be a quiet evening talking over wine. What we experienced was far from that and truly a disappointment. Now, maybe I am wrong, but I thought a winery on a Saturday evening would be a quiet place with adults enjoying some nice wine. Apparently in Wakeman, OH, it’s a place to take your multiple children and let them run wild while you act like an oblivious idiot with your friends and family. A certain group had 6 children under the age of about 5 there. They were running around and acting stupid. One of them even scared the owners dog that was sleeping and their idiot parent tried to claim the dog bit him. Well, idiot, your kid just scared the crap out of a sleeping dog. What do you expect to happen? How is this any different than taking your kid to a bar? Now, the wine was decent. We got the Outback, which was an Elderberry wine. It was nice and fruity if that’s your thing. We just had a glass each and were ready to leave.
