Walden Diner

I would never go back to this establishment after my experience here. To start, my sampler platter came out about 30 minutes after ordering it. then to have our entrees come out five minutes after that. Along with the very short amount of time to eat my appetizer, my burger was missing its bacon, cold (yet somehow over cooked) and dry, despite advertising: «famous burgers» in their menu (maybe known for their lack of flavor). To top it all off, after asking for my bacon the waitress attempted to ease my mind by telling me: «sorry, the cook was out late last night,» as if this was a liable explanation. My oh my…

I stopped in after a performance at the NY school of music on a Saturday night. Typical menu and friendly staff. Hoping for a good local diner and had not great expectations. Soda was flat and a cheap quality cola. Ordered a Waffle, bacon egg and cheese on a roll, grilled cheese and a chicken Panini. The grilled cheese came out and we returned it so the cheese could be melted. 20 minutes later it came back again still not melted. If I wanted cheese on toast i would have ordered it. Panini was tasty but not really a panini. It was on the same toasted roll as the BEC sandwich. The waffle was okay, it was a frozen waffle. During the wait for the re do on the grilled cheese, no eye contact was made so we couldnt even ask what was going on. A good laugh was had by all but the food… not so much

What diner are these people reviewing? Just want to make sure this is the Walden Diner on Orange avenue in Walden NY 12 586? Because the Walden Diner on Orange avenue in Walden NY 12 586 that I went to couldn’t cook eggs right and made a cheeseburger so bad the 8 year old wouldn’t eat it… The place I went too called the Walden Diner on Orange Avenue in Walden NY 12 586 is sub standardly dirty and had us wait 40 minutes for a cheeseburger, eggs and pancakes and a club. Then the Walden Diner on Orange Avenue in Walden NY 12 586 noticed the cheeseburger with one bite taken and asked why, when they were told it was overcooked and dry and the toppings on it were not even what was ordered or advertised (other words came with lettuce tomato and mayo with American when he ordered a bacon and cheddar) they said ohh sorry– walked away and wrapped that sum bitch up to go! I laughed and said to keep it because that wasn’t ordered– even the check had the right item but was cooked wrong– THEY STILL TRIED TO CHARGE ME! I left the food and would not pay that part of the check– So again just making sure the people with the 5 star reviews are talking about the Walden Diner on Orange Avenue in Walden NY 12 586.

Me and four friends went hiking today for a few hours. When we left to drive back to NYC, we looked up a spot to grab food and found Walden Diner. We ordered an ridiculous amount of food between the five of us, so needless to say, we tried a good portion of that menu.
Every single plate we tried was incredible. We couldn’t get over the quality and deliciousness of each bite. Along with this, the service was wonderful. The owner came over shortly after we ordered to not only be the cutest man ever, but also check in on how the experience was so far. Our waitress was on extremely attentive and very accommodating as well.
Their coffee is even on point.
We had the best time here and are currently driving back to NYC as I right this, all pregnant with food babies. We can’t wait to come back to Walden soon solely for another meal at Walden’s.

Went for dinner last night and lunch today. Both times the service was excellent. The people are extremely nice and helpful. The food was pretty good. We got breakfast items last night and I got a French onion soup today. The food was good and it was filling. The pancakes last night were a little dry but the waffle was delicious! Eggs were nicely done as was the breakfast sausage. The home fries were decent though (not enough flavor for my specific tastes but it was still pretty good). The French onion soup had good flavor but imo a little strong on the thyme. Overall 3.5 to 4 stars depending what you get.

As far as diners go this is right up on top in my opinion. Service is always good, food is always hot and as expected. Prices are average diner prices.

My husband and I just moved to Walden and have been enjoying exploring the area landmarks and dives… and I mean that in a loving way! Rather than driving to IHOP, we wanted to support and stay local as much as possible. We went to the Main for breakfast. My husband had the grand slam type breakfast and I had the fried egg sandwich sandwich on croissant with cheddar. It was good, better than Denny’s or an IHOP! But the clencher… all of the delicious looking muffins, rolls, and Danishes. We decided to get the cheese Danish… AMAZING…not only delicious looking, but tasting as well! And ya gotta get it toasted. They said all of the baked goods are made on site… gotta love homemade.
My only complaint and is holding out on a 4^th star. make a better cup of coffee.
Dinner we haven’t tried, but the desserts in the case were calling us back with a promise of deliciousness! Coconut cream, lemon meringue, Boston cream, etc.

Love local diners — and I am from Walden, try to support local businesses always. NOT trying to be over critical but what I share is an honest opinion, I’m sorry.
First let me state the wait staff is beyond reproach! Friendly, fun, played/​teased with my kids — they loved her!
The food however, oh my gosh — NOT good. I ordered the chicken pam, when I tried to cut it — well you know the sound of trying to scisssor through a really heavy fabric, ya it had ‘that’ type of sound. Clearly frozen, hard as a rock, overheated, I have never sent a plate back in a restaurant ever (I just think it’s rude) but this would have been the only 1 in my life I would have. The waitress even asked if I wanted to and seemed surprised when I said no and just had more salad.
It’s a local diner, I don’t expect any ‘fine-​dining’ nonsense but even the kids didn’t like their Mac & cheese… its Mac & Cheese, what kid doesn’t like that?
Sincerely hope they look at some quality improvement, would really like to be able to come back again when its a bit better.

I am giving 1 star because the server was very nice. I have never had such horrible diner food in my life. I’ve made several attempts to eat there. The bacon tasted like it went bad, chicken salad, burgers horrible. Even the coffee was horrible… Then I realized it was that the creamer had gone bad. Yuck! Nice staff, but don’t eat there… Ever

If you’re looking for traditional diner fare, the Walden Diner can fit the bill.
I’ve been here many times for all types of meals, breakfast dinner etc, and have never had a problem with food or service. Nothing spectacular or noteworthy, just standard diner fare.

I love diners, I love diner food, and I am not a picky eater… But I literally cannot remember ever having a chicken salad this bad. I was also put off by the waitress smoking literally in front of the door and when I overheard her asking the manager if she should just put back a dessert that one of the clients hadn’t eaten. Experiences like this are what give diners a bad name. 2 stars instead if 1 only because my waitress was really sweet.
