Great course for the money. Monday afternoon not real busy until the leagues started. Course is in good shape and for a hacker like me was great. But I was supposed to be working so …

This golf course sets up perfectly for players who are novice or intermediate players. A golfer who is more proficient at the game will likely find Kings Mill(2-words) a short track with only a modicum of character. Still, the golf course has all the elements to entertain at every level. The greens? Mostly smallish and tilted. Tilted is not to be misconstrued as undulating as the greens at Kings Mill are tilted. Putts downhill will be fast, faster and fastest. Putts uphill are slowish. Side-to-side make for interesting and severe breaks in putting. The Front Nine is more open-air than the Back Nine which plays down into a valley on No. 12 and doesn’t come up until No. 17. Tricked-up holes are Nos. 10, 12, 14, 15 and 17. These four have doglegs that force lay-ups shots or a golfer will be way, way out of position or even O.B. I don’t like any one of those four holes(least of all No. 10 — a joke for driving the ball), but there’s nothing wrong with a little odd-ball design. Fees are more than reasonable and my guess is after 1PM the course opens up for play — maybe even earlier. The pro-shop/clubhouse can entertain loads of people; it’s a down home look and the staff is very friendly. I’m sure they do a great business for league play and outings. Kings Mill Golf Course is a lot of fun and I highly recommend it to to golfers looking for friendly play, cold beer and a nice 9-hole or 18-hole round.
