Wow!!! Totally surprised by this place ! Food was great and truly fresh. Husband and I had the fajita quesadilla(#154). …delicious and my daughter had(#21) and my son had(#1). None of us complained. We happily ate our dishes We also had the cheese dip… I am not kidding… it was great. I even put some of it on my Spanish rice. Totally worth it. My husband doesn’t like guacamole. …but he really enjoyed it here. Now that’s saying something. Let me not forget to mention… that the service was really really FAST. We actually went to another Mexican restaurant prior to coming to La Tolteca… needless to say we are glad we found La Tolteca over the other place.

Good small Mexican restaurant with a family feel. My wife’s shrimp taco salad had more shrimp than she could eat! My spinach enchiladas were very good, with chunks of onion and tomato baked in. Margaritas were good but we didn’t dare the 44 ounce versions. Friendly staff, not the best furnishings or decorations but still a homey feeling.

I didn’t really want to try this place because I’m not a huge fan of Mexican food, but my BF wanted to get some. I ordered standard chicken tacos and an enchilada. I quickly realized that I didn’t like Mexican food because I hadn’t had GOOD Mexican food before. I had been completely missing out on life. The food is AMAZING. The chicken nachos are also phenomenal. We’ve always taken the food to go, but the service has always been pretty quick and the staff is very friendly. The older guy that rings us up is so sweet, even when we ask to substitute ingredients or change things, he just tells us they’ll make it however we want. Love this spot. Going for dinner tonight!

Fajita was good, chimichanga was good, too. Service prompt & polite; prices fair; serving size decent. Served the cerveza w/a cold mug(that’s a plus); men’s bathroom clean. I forgot to mention that the Salsa was unique(a bit of twang, thoroughly blended… not too exciting to the eyes… reminded me of puréed tomatoes w/Tapatio in it). I think they would prosper greatly if a local could take the time to help them get on the Google map.

I was hesitant to go inside because it looked dark from outside… But I’m glad that we went in. Very friendly staff, good food and great prices.

Authentic Mexican menu with lots of options. Staff is friendly and fast and doesn’t mind helping us with our Spanish. Prices are fair and the portions are large. Margaritas are great! This is a monthly favorite for us.

I’m not quite sure how to review this place… It is what it is and it’s good at doing what it does. They serve cheap, med-qual, no frills(like forrealz, no frills whatsoever) tex-mex food. The menu is so long it has tabs but, truthfully, most everything tastes the same: creamy*, salty, and cheesy. On this visit, my «chimichanga» came out as two small, soft, enchilada-style roll ups instead of the hefty, crunchy, fried mass of deliciousness a chimi’s supposed to be. Not a tremendous problem because what I got was still tasty and cost very little but definitely not what I was envisioning when I ordered. Service is always very friendly and their large coronaritas, while not stand-out, are well worth the $. The place has very little going for it aesthetically; in fact, it could easily be mistaken for an undercover strip club from the outside since all the glass is painted opaque black, but rest assured the interior is family friendly. I’d say a solid 3.5 stars if you’re in the mood for yummy enough/cheap enough tex-mex served in Texas-style portions(i.e., be prepared to unbutton your pants at the table!). *DISCLAIMER: we’ve never tried their fajitas but they look delicious!

Overlooked this place for three years… Wish I wouldn’t of. Finally needing a Mexican food fix, we rolled the dice and tried La Toteca out. We have now eaten at both the LaPlata location. Their service is unparalleled. So fast and super friendly. Your drink or salsa will never get close to being empty. This alone sets it apart from anywhere else in Charles county. Is it the best Mexican food I’ve ever had? Coming from Texas No. Is it the best place I’ve eaten in Charles county… A resounding yes.

Super fast, super yummy food. Large portions. I love their salsa, even ordered a container to go once. Was slightly disturbed by it being served in a paper Pepsi cup. We almost always order the Chimichangas, but haven’t had anything there that wasn’t delicious. Wait staff is always polite and the Spanish language television broadcasts are always interesting to watch, even though I don’t speak the language. Never seems to be too busy though which worries me.

Pretty good for a small mom and pop place. So much better than El Montes! Clean and very good service. My sons split a meal — not very hungry and server brought extra plate without asking. Very good service. Food is ok needs a little more flavor and fresh ingredients.

The ONLY thing this place has going for it is super fast and friendly service. That is the sole reason for giving them any stars. The quality of the food doesn’t deserve any stars. The cheese is sticky and goopy and leaves a horrible aftertaste. That is saying a lot from someone who loves cheese. If they would use a Monterey Jack/Cheddar blend I would have much fewer complaints. The enchilada and burrito were both soggy and the ground beef in the burrito had bland and slightly stale taste to it. It was my first time venturing down to Waldorf for some Mexican food. I certainly won’t be doing that again. I’d rather go to Don Pablo’s in Alexandria or Lauriol Plaza in DC and wait 1.5 hrs to be sat.

We had a late lunch here after a movie. The staff was very nice and helpful. Good lunch quality food. Basic and no frills. You are given chips and salsa upon arrival, which were good but not great. The salsa was generic tasting. Large portions, so show up hungry. The food arrives quickly which was nice. I had #107 Carne Asada, which was okay. My wife had #24 taco, chalupa, tostada plate, and it was also okay. Not fancy or awesome, but not bad. Everything we ate we could easily cook at home, with the same or better results. But, this was our first visit.(Although my wife has brung home tamales before(very good)). I bet they have some really good items on the menu… Unfortunately we ordered and receive the basics. Tortillas, beans, chopped lettuce, tomatoes, ground beef, and cheese… And my carne Asada(large very thin cuts of seasoned beef). The bill was about $ 25 and included my tea and my wife’s soda. Not terrible, but you could come close to the same food at Taco Bell for around $ 10-$ 15. Not the best place in the world, but a good place for a basic lunch. We left really wishing we had tried the enchiladas.

I like this place. The food was good, both me and my husband enjoyed our meals. The drinks were good and the menu prices were very affordable. The only thing I didn’t like was the salsa. It was extremely watered down but its complimentary so I can’t really complain

The absolute BEST tacos de carn asada, that I’ve ever had! I’ve been to MANY Mexican restaurants, but these are the absolute best! The steak is cooked perfectly, and the spicy sauce that is served on the side adds such a delicious flavor to the meat! I live in Northern VA and find myself heading over to Waldorf to eat the tacos. Order the flour tortilla’s though, they come with corn tortillas. Service is great and friendly too!

This place was okay. The positives: speedy service and a large quantity of food for the low price. The negatives: the chips were slightly stale and the shrimp was rubbery and a bit gamey. We’ll give this place a second chance but with the large assortment of options in the same strip mall I think we can find better.
