Dock of the Bay Marina

We have always visited this little marina to purchase our Oregon crabbing licenses, and rent our crabbing equipment. They will hook you up with all you need to spend the day pulling in crab-​pots from the docks that are located right down the banks from the marina. Great way to spend the day!

We did the 3 hour boat rental. It was a fantastic time! Jena and her crew were incredibly helpful! Great experience, kids can’t wait to do it again.

Unexpected fun! For $ 80(plus a $ 12 out of state three day license), we were into crab bigtime! We heard about this from a guy («Clameron») at the state park where we were camped. He gave very specific directions to this place, and just as described, we rented a boat, three traps (which were plenty), bait, «hookbar», and a crab gauge. They told us just where to go, and we got right into sweet, tasty Dungeness crabs! Great family fun as my daughter pretended to be on deadliest catch and used the «hook bar» to grab the buoy. Three hours passed like fifteen minutes. This pure family FUN! The key is that Jana has the thing set up as a package deal – no add ons to drive the price out of family fun range. She and her staff make crabbing fun, easy, and affordable. What a great outing for a family looking for something different, fun and tasty. BTW, they will clean and cook the crab for a minimal cost if you don’t have that capability. Final count:9 keepers (out of a possible 12).

What fun! Great service with friendly and knowledgable folks. They were very kid friendly as well and so helpful that you could tell they wanted the kids to enjoy the day. We rented gear and caught crab right of the dock!

Jana was very helpful to a first time crabber. I needed one crab cooked because we only caught one keeper and our rented house had a very firm rule no crab cooking in the house. She was willing to cook it and even did it free since it is nominal cost and we had to wait a bit (they normally cook multiple crabs, one is an unusual request). The marina wasn’t responsible for our poor showing, we were just dropping our own pots off the nearby dock and didn’t get advice or equipment from them. If you are a Portlander or somewhere else not too near the coast, I would recommend renting the gear and boat rather than buying pots. Now we have to store a couple of pots we will use infrequently.

We had a wonderful day showing our in-​laws the area thanks to Jana! We loved everything about our experience and will definitely send everyone that way.

This is a great place to get setup and go crabbing. It is 80 bucks for a boat rental and the gear and information you’ll need to crab. Jana is very helpful and busy. You can expect to catch between zero and thirty dungeness. When we went one group caught one, another over twenty, and we thirteen, but it is also a fun thing to do with your family no matter what you catch. Tip: the incoming tide is supposedly the best time to go!

Very helpful! Called from Newport thinking they were here and the lady said they are in Waldport. She then asked me to tell her where I was going crabbing because I needed mink meat. I said the dock behind the rogue in Newport and she told me Harry’s bait and tackle. I asked where it was and she told me specific directions. Awesome!

The Owner was so patient and kind to us. She answered both my boys incessant questions with calm and a smile. She warned us the odds of getting a good sized crab at the time we went was slim and worked out a very fair deal for us as she could see we were determined to crab in the rain. I appreciated her knowledge and forthrightness. She taught us the technique, how to sex the crabs (females have to be thrown back in) as well as explained the tides and best time to crab. She had solid supplies and equipment. Clean and efficient. We had a great time. We caught a lot of crabs just none were big enough to keep (which was fine with us). We will definitely come back. My boys want to return tomorrow!

We set out to rent a boat yesterday but strong winds, a 9 foot high tide and our lack of Alsea Bay knowledge had us out of the boat and crabbing from the dock. We landed 3 keepers, which isn’t bad for dock crabbing!
The boats are excellent size, well equipped and a great rental value. Reservations are recommended!
We will definitely be back!

Dock of the Bay Marina is great. We reserved 2 boats a day in advance & they were ready & waiting for us. The owner Jana was super nice & helpful. Jana tried to talk us out of renting a 2^nd boat so that we could save the money. There are 5 of us, 3 kids. She said that we didn’t really need a 2^nd boat. But, we wanted the extra space so we rented 2 boats. How can you complain about finding a business owner who wants you to save money? We paid a little extra to have our crab cleaned & cooked. Yes, thanks to the map and tips Jana gave us we caught quite a bit of crab. As this was only our 2^nd time we brought in 5 crab which had to go back in the water that were a bit too small. But, they replaced our 5 with five large crab that her husband & son just caught. The store did close for a little bit during low tide, but why would it need to be open? It was low tide. Jana even told us to come back with our kids in the late afternoon/​evening to do more crabbing off the dock. Jana even set my youngest sons fishing pole up with an appropriate lure so that he could fish while the rest of us were managing the crab rings! I highly recommend you give Dock of the Bay a chance.

often closed, even on holiday weekends, crappy service, nasty woman running it, Jana, ignorant or? Dirty, cluttered, nasty, weird folks hanging out there. Get your crab tags up river at Lakeside, just a little bitty drive, 1 mile, and bring your own rings, etc, please, do yourself a favor and do not patronize this place, locals won’t, and maybe soon she will leave us all alone.

Crazy lady gave our boat away we had reserved the day before! Avoid this place.

Staff: Very friendly and helpful, even for an out-​of-​towner like me. I expected a little «city boy» teasing, but there was none of that at all.
Experience: For $ 80, they hook you up with a three-​hour boat, bait, traps, and most importantly, TELL YOU WHERE TO GO! After we caught crab, we brought it back for them to clean and cook ($ 1.50/crab). They also provided butter & utensils (free), and set us up right on the bench in front where we ate freshly steamed crab.
Overall: It was a really cool adventure and I look forward to doing it again!
