My Daughter and I ate there last night. Having been a twisted rooster(sister of crooked goose) fan for years, we were excited. But, this place was a let down. I had the voodoo chili, which had good flavor but the center of the bowl was cold. You know, like when you MICROWAVE stuff, and it heats uneven? That’s what it was like. My daughter had the lumberjack burger, which was quite good. Maple bourbon sauce was a creative touch. Her fries however, undercooked, limp and greasy. Desert was good, fried cookie dough. waitstaff was prompt and attentive –along with the afore mentioned burger, these are glimmers of the twisted rooster. And also, keeps them from getting two stars.

My family and I had a wonderful first experience here over the summer… something changed. Our server/bartender on our most recent visit was rude, had horrible body language(slamming down refills, looked like she wanted to be elsewhere), was never at our table for longer than 3 seconds, and generally awkward. She seemed far more concerned with her empty bar than with a 4 top. Also our food was meh, my wife was served coffee that was cold, the fries were undercooked, and the grilled cheese my wife ordered was burnt. She would have sent it back, but our server/bartender never showed up until our bill was requested. She cleared one plate the entire time, and so we ate with a plethora of dishes laying about. Not sure what happened today, but it will be a while before we go back to the Crooked Goose

First time here– ordered Nachos for appetizer. Very sub par for $ 10. Dry, very little cheese –definitely would not order again. Wait time for dinner was surprisingly long. Really expected the same level of service as Twisted Rooster.

Went to crooked goose about two years ago with the family. My young son got sick there(fast moving stomach flu that was going round). Manager made us feel like Sh**. Mess was left in front of us and other guests for 15+ minutes. Manager spoke derogatory towards my wife. I didn’t find this out till we got to the car. I went back in and said what I should have said before to the manager. He followed me out the door like he was planning on fighting me! This was two years ago. I finally decided to go back. What can I say… I’m a sucker for local. Anyhow… food…ok. service still sucks. If you can’t bring food out all at once don’t bring it out at all. Plus, design wise, the restaurant sucks. The booths are devided by a high wall making it impossible for you to see half of an already small restaurant.

Good, not great. I went in really wanting to like everything about the Crooked Goose. Walked out thinking it was just okay. I wouldn’t discourage someone from going, but definitely not telling people it is a «must» visit. First, the service definitely left something to be desired. We had a group of 4 adults and 3 kids. We decided to wait on beers until we decided what to eat. We started with 6 waters and a chocolate milk. Pretty simple, but she forgot the chocolate milk. Took quite a while for her to come back and take our food order. Once the food came, she checked on us right in the beginning, but we didn’t see much more of her. We ordered alligator tail and cheese bread as appetizers. We were happy with both. The food was average. The kids pizzas and personal pizzas had little toppings and lots of crust. The pizza sauce was very sweet. The Lumberjack burgers were a little over done, but had decent taste. The mushroom grilled cheese received the best review from our group. We had a few beers. All pretty good depending on your taste preference. We also ordered a loaded root beer. Probably wouldn’t order that again.

This is definitely my favorite restaurant in Grand Rapids right now. The service is friendly, the pub style food is dead on, and the beer selection is great. The location is safe and clean. I highly recommend this place, especially on weeknights when the wait to get in is zero. My go-to for this place is the El Conquistador burger, which is avocado nachos on a burger.

Wanted to like it and was excited to go there. Service was great, food was disappointing. My friend ordered a salad«mixed greens» and added chicken to it, Good thing she did because otherwise it would have just been a giant bowl of lettuce — not mixed greens. I got the buffalo sandwich and the bread was great, but I swear it was microwaved square cheese with not much chicken :(steak fries were very tasty. Overall not impressed and will not be going back.

Came for lunch and waited a long time for service, food, etc. they were understaffed. They also ran out of knives. Seems odd given the place wasn’t full of people. All in all, disappointed.

And out to a late lunch with my wife and youngest. The food was great, but if you have kids it’s probably best to leave them at home, the atmosphere was a little noisy for her. I ended up choosing the roo 2.0 and added bambam sauce. The wait staff was very attentive to our needs and kept the waters always full and when we did run into an issue my drink not being delivered to the table) Tyler was quick to remedy the situation. The burger I ordered came out with cheese on it, I didn’t ask for cheese, but it was a mistake that I enjoyed. The meat itself wasn’t the most tasty that I’ve had, but was far from the worst. The bun was nice and simple. It was nice to take a bite and not be overwhelmed by 2 inches of dough. The fries were a simple steak cut and lightly seasoned. I added a little extra pepper, because that’s how I roll. My drink of choice today was the loaded root beer. I consider myself to be a root beer aficionado and so I figured why not add some whipped vodka to it. It was a great choice! It calmed served in the bottle and had a nice lite flavor to it. The only improvement I would make is to get a longer straw. Overall I give this place a solid 4 star rating, this is based upon one visit… And I plan on coming back again, I’m gonna try me a pizza next time around

Any place that has a Maurice Salad on the menu is good in my book! The former JL Hudson’s restaurant classic is prepared exactly as I remembered it at the Crooked Goose. We’ve been twice: once on a Friday evening where we waited for about ½ hour and once on a Sunday for lunch, seated immediately. I would avoid CG during high traffic times; there is nowhere ‘good’ to wait and you end up crowded by the door without designated seating, often in the way of the waitstaff trying to round that corner. No bueno. But once you get your table or booth, prepare for a good, solid pub and grub experience. Crooked Goose’s menu is simple and limited. I love that! Standout items include the aforementioned Maurice Salad, the chicken wings, and the Mushroom Grilled Cheese. Nearly every item on the menu, specialty drinks included, has a Michigan-made component. I applaud their commitment to local, and they pull it off just as well as, if not better than, other GR restaurants with the same goal. The décor is gastropub casual with a good balance of chic elegance(the pendulum lights over the bar and the turn of the century style back-bar) with lighthearted whimsy(the painted murals and animal mounts). It’s the perfect gathering place for GVSU co-eds, friends on a night out, or even small families. The last time we were in, there was an 8-top of in-uniform US Soldiers. Eclectic, welcoming, down-to-earth, and delicious, with good service to boot.

The wild chicken sandwich was the best this I have had here yet. Last week: I also really liked the grilled Bologna cheese sandwich. Roo burgers are really plain tasting. Thanks.

We had a great meal here. The burgers are absolutely amazing. I can’t remember the name of mine, but it was stacked with bacon, cheese, onion straws and BBQ sauce. It was cooked just right and went down nice and greasy. It was a true half pounder which I couldn’t finish with the awesome steak fries it came with. My wife enjoyed her chicken pot pie, but the serving was pretty small. Seemed more like an appetizer than a main course. Great beer selection and prices. I was sooo happy to find Hopslam on tap here having missed the release in SE Michigan. Oh, and the deep fried cookie dough bites are CRACK!

We ventured out into another Michigan blizzard and trekked all the way across town during rush hour only to have an extremely underwhelming experience at the Twisted Rooster’s red-headed step-brother of a restaurant, the Crooked Goose. We were seated promptly and were happily anticipating the experience. The atmosphere in this little sports-bar-meets-gastropub was nice and that is the only thing that saved them a star. Our server was aloof and forgot requests multiple times. She forgot to put in out food order and had to come back to our table to ask us what we ordered. The ticket ran for about 45 min and then she let the food die in the window. I ordered the Fish’n’Chips, Eva had the Michigan Melt. Her bread was soggy and my fish was over cooked from the heat lamps. Over all it was just a bummer. I give the Crooked Goose 2⁄5 stars.

They have a fantastic, unique take on pub food. The Lumberjack Burger is a must! Great pub atmosphere!

The atmosphere was great, the food was awesome. My co-workers and I tried the nachos with chicken, they were great, despite the fact that we ordered them WITHOUT jalepenos but they came with them on the nachos anyway. It was really no biggie, we picked them off. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, the jalepeno cream sauce was great! I was worried, because I despise anything spicy, but it was really flavorful and not much heat.

Went to this restaurant for lunch during the week. Just like at twisted rooster, the menu items are different and focus on many michigan ingredients. The food was really good, except for the steak fries which were totally not worth the calories. The only reason I took one star off was the staff. The hostess sounded very ditzy and didn’t make any sense when she say us. Our waitress wasn’t very attentive, but she was nice when she did come around. All in all, we would go back.

I miss the Crooked Goose. It’s a great funky foodie bar. Comfort food that you can’t really make at home. The desserts are necessary, fried cookie dough and the crooked brownie are both beyond delicious. I go for the dough when I need salty and I have driven the brownie over state lines to have it at the new home. The grilled cheeses are fine. The ratios or pairings of bread and cheese are off for me, depending on which one you get. The pizzas are GOOD! Be prepared for spicy sauce though. A no spice companion in my group couldn’t even handle the mild option. My favorite is the chicken pot pie. The crust is like a phyllo dough so it’s flaky and gets in every bite, just comforting warmth of yumminess. My other favorite is the wings, I get them with three sauces and scarf them down. The drinks are good too, the loaded faygos are perfect for a non beer drinker like myself and also a good pairing for bar food. Go and eat! Don’t forget to take advantage of those awesome specials!
