Food is good and the service has always been good. My complaint is the drinks. Which is why I gave 3 stars. They charge to much for the amount of liquor they put in. I ordered a crown and water and a captain and water and they both looked and tasted like water.

The response by the owner was not what I expected, he has blind eye to what is going on there, He at least responded privately, I give him a star for that. But excuses excuses he had.

Had a very relaxing dinner with excellent service. I have a foot injury and was unable to sit at the available high top table they were seating at during this time. They prompty placed me in a booth where I could elevate my foot. We each ordered sandwiches and sweet potato fries. Food was very fresh and made with quality ingredients. The portions are large and very filling. We could have easily split a meal and left fully satisfied. The beer selection was good with a number of Michigan beers available. This was the 4th or 5th time we have had dinner here and will continue to come back. Excellent customer service.

I have celiac, So i had the cuban sandwich with Gluten Free Bread. I also have a shell fish allergy, so it was a little tough finding something to eat, but what i did eat was great. Loved the taste and freshness of the food. Very good service at the bar and met a few locals while eating here. I think you should stop in and give them a try. Looked to me like everyone was having a great time.

We went out to dinner with some good friends and we both brought our little boys and Benstein was more than accommodating. They had two high chairs ready at the table for us when we got there. soo nice! We tried the salmon and quinoa salad, the signature salad with salmon, the carbonara pasta, and the white fish. All the dishes were great. We all enjoyed our dinners. We also ordered the sweet and spicy calamari as an appetizer and it was amazing: not too spicy and lightly breaded so it didn’t taste greasy. The fried pepperoncinis alongside were great too! Our friends got a kid’s chicken breast and asparagus for their son and when the waiter brought him the cookie that came with his meal he brought our little guy a cookie too!(He is too young to have the kid’s meal.) Love this place and will certainly return. If you haven’t visited, you must. It is amazinggggg!!!

My wife and I were really excited to check out Bensteins because we heard it was a cool place with a great atmosphere. All of that was true, what my friends left out was that the quality of food for the price of what you’re getting was extremely off. Let me preface my food review by saying I will give this place another chance because the place was really nice and the wait staff was awesome. The meal was brought to our table in under 5 minutes, and while I like fast service, that screams pre made meals. I had the fish and chips for 18 bucks. I must say, I’ve never seen cod that color(definitely frozen for a while). Also, both the fish and fries were quite soggy as if the oil in the fryer needed to be turned up another 100 degrees. I had two bites and asked for a box to be polite. My wife had the lobster mac for 18 bucks, and she had only a few bites before cutting our losses and asking for the check. Beer selection was good so we will definitely go back to sit at the bar, but I’m a bit nervous about the food quality. I may play it safe and get a sandwich or something harder to screw up.

Great happy hour! All wine was $ 2 off, and there were select appetizers for $ 5. My friend and I split the buffalo chicken wrap, which was HUGE and an insane deal for the price. It was actually two wraps cut in half! We also got the pinconning fondue, which was actually just soft pretzels with a cheese dip and a mustard dip. Both were very good though. Great meal, and only $ 10 a person! We’ll definitely be back.

Our first time at the restaurant this week was a great experience. We both got the tomato bisque soup — so good! He got the Cordon Bleu Chicken stack & really liked it. I got the filet mignon & thought it very good. I gave him my green beans because of the heavy garlic(sorry, not a fan of garlic!), but the whipped potatoes were fabulous, especially since they weren’t the popular garlic mashed so many other restaurants serve. For THAT, I am most grateful! Desserts were amazing. We got crème brûlée & a fresh berry crumble. Both were yummy. Service was outstanding. And it was nice to meet one of the owners who came to see how we liked everything & to chat a bit. Very nice man. We will certainly be back again. Soon! In fact, we just made reservations for your amazing sounding Sunday Brunch this weekend! Can’t wait to try it! We’re coming in with another couple & I’m sure they’ll be coming back after they try you too!

Excellent dinner. Tried shrimp/crab cakes… absolutely the best I’ve ever had. The fries are amazing and I am not a fry person so that says a lot. My husband got the Havana(aka Cuban) & He said it’s the best he’s ever had too. Our 2 yr old had the Mac & cheese. It was amazing. A bit overpriced for a kids meal($ 6.99) but you get a large portion for kids, a drink, & a cookie for dessert. The food was fabulous. Glad there’s a good restaurant that actually makes their food rather than taking from freezer, heating & serving. Can’t wait to come back! Stopped in a few times now. Always great. Tried the brunch also… must try. Absolutely delicious! I would try something different… NOT the ordinary eggs, egg sandwich, or omelettes(not that they are bad by any means but you can get that anywhere). The kids French toast is amazing with fruit sprinkled all over. I got the bread pudding — made with coffee cake and comes with really good bacon… so delicious… and also sprinkled with fresh fruit. My husband got the biscuits & gravy. Different than other places but in a very good way. I don’t typically like them & tried his. They were very tasty & kind of spicy… yum!

Delighted to have a nice place just down the street from home. This intersection of Wolverine Lake, Wixom, and Commerce has sorely needed a classy(but not too pricey) restaurant for the 30 years I have lived in the area. As an aside, anyone reading remember when this was Athenians? ‘Nuff said:) After two dinner visits to the Benstein Grille, I highly recommend this restaurant. The place is clean, not too loud, the servers efficient, and the food very good. My husband had the lamb chops on our first visit, and he recommends. I’ve had the two onion soup on both visits. It’s delicious, and a meal in itself(especially if paired with a salad). Our dinner companions loved the soup also. Servers kept our water and drinks refreshed. I’m looking forward to trying other menu items now that I have a great place in my own neighborhood. The challenge for the owners will be getting non locals to find this little gem!

came here for a light snack and a drink. Not usually a west sider, but this spot was recommended and what a blessing. Such a great find. Obviously named after the road it was located on, but love their sense of humor in posting pics of famous Bens and«famous?» steins throughout the restaurant. It is filled with dark wood(not a reference to me) chairs and light walls and has a lot of windows which allows ample natural light. If I have a complaint it would be that the acoustics make it hard to hear. But then, in defense of the restaurant, years of listening to women yell at me has made me slightly deaf. Ordered their pinconning fondue and a few drinks. Let me tell you something, when I order pretzel bread I don’t expect all that much. These pretzel sticks were good enough to eat all on their own. Flaky, soft and oh so warm. And yes, the pinconning fondue is what the dish is named after BUT the real prize is the other sauce. Is it BBQ? Is it mustard? is it heaven??? Palate and Root get all the attention out this way, but I would tell anyone to come here and check it out. Can’t wait to be west side again.

I came here with a friend for a casual dinner and cocktails. They did a great job transforming this place. They have managed to make it feel warm and cozy. The service is great. Our waitress was very attentive, made sure our drinks were full at all times. We had the fondue as the appetizer, it was pretty good, but in no way was this fondue. It was a cheese dip, a very good cheese dip, with warm pretzels and a yummy mustard dipping sauce. It was good, but incorrectly named. My friend and I both opted for sandwiches. Both were very good! She has the club and I had the Ruben(w/o meat). Both were very tasty. I gave them a 4 because they didn’t blow me away, but I will go back. They have a nice twist on the average bar food. Definitely worth checking out!

I went to the Benstein Gille a few months back with a friend just to grab a bite to eat. There have been a few restaurants/bars in this locations before so I always get a little skeptical as to why they never last. When I walked into the grille I was blown away, the décor is beautiful! My friend and I were sat at a hightop in the bar area and ordered a few drinks. The server was very nice and everyone that walked by made sure we never ran out of our beer. I ordered the lobster mac and again was blown away! I figured there would be a few pieces of lobster in it but mostly pasta but boyyyyyyy was I wrong! There was so much delicious lobster in this dish! I am drooling just thinking about it! I really hope this place sticks around, it is so great to have some finer dinning in this area that is filled with dinky hole in the wall bars. It is very refreshing to see a place like this come to town!

My brother had been here a few times already and he encouraged my daughter, son in law, and myself to join them. Excellent. I liked the décor, fast, friendly service, arrived early, 6:15 on a Saturday. I had to try the cheeseburger. Half pounds of 100% pure american beef. Prepared perfect with juice dripping on my fingers with every bite I took. It arrived with sweet potato fries but I had to have the regular fries. The waitress was happy to oblige. The menu looked pretty good for some other entrees that I will probably try next time. Yes, next time. Get there early enough and you don’t have to worry about parking.

I was torn between 3 stars or 4 on this one. I like the fact that I haven’t had to wait to be seated the two times I’ve been here. Judging from the parking lot, you would think the place was packed. Unfortunately this is the biggest downfall of the restaurant, the parking lot is just poorly designed and there is not enough room for what you would think would be a standard Friday night crowd to park. They do offer valet but if your anything like me, I never let valet park my car. Instead I parked across the street at the park(which I didn’t mind because I enjoy walking anytime I have the opportunity). Other than parking and a very tart pear martini I had on my first visit(don’t order the pear martini unless you like VERY tart drinks), I don’t have anything bad to say about it. Valet gentleman was very nice when greeting you at the door, the waitstaff was also pleasant and attentive and the drinks and food came to the table relatively quickly. The shrimp appetizer was GREAT(also what brought me back) and the décor was impressive… big change from the prior establishment that was located here. I wouldn’t advise on the crab cakes(a bit undercooked in my opinion) though. All in all, it’s a nice addition to the neighbor hood. I will definitely be going back for more shrimp. Also, I love supporting the neighborhood businesses … it makes me happy to see this establishment doing so well so far.

I was deciding between the salmon and quinoa salad($ 13) and B. G’s signature salad($ 14) with salmon added, and regretted going with the latter afterwards because it looked like the former was a more substantial meal. The signature salad was very standard, mixed greens with balsamic, nothing special. We came when they were brand new, maybe in the first week, and our waitress admitted that she had had a rough day on the service floor which I think is unlikely to improve the remainder of the day. Accordingly, I specified no cheese on my salad but it came out with cheese. Definitely not a deal breaker, but annoying to have to pick around it. We sat at the table closest to the kitchen and the staff seemed stressed out which is understandable if it is their first few days of operation, but I thought they had a lot of room for improvement in professionalism and efficiency. Looking at the dishes around me, I think the pasta is the best deal here in terms of both quality and quantity of food. Weird décor, including a portrait of Ben Stein the actor. The quirky items on the walls, including furniture and rust-colored pots and pans, aimed to catch one’s eye kind of clash with the TVs all over the place, as it seems like the restaurant has a split personality as a sports bar and thought-provoking upscale restaurant. I wouldn’t come again on my own because I think it’s too expensive for what it is, but if I found myself there again I would order a pasta dish.

So its good to have another nicer restaurant in the area, this location has been sitting idle for over a year or two. So I like what they have done to the interior, strip it down and open up the space, its much brighter. And with all new places, its a popular place on weekends. We snuck in at 5:30 and got a table, one of the last of about 40 – 45. But by the time we left, there was an hour wait. The menu is about 35 items deep, with 7 – 8 options between the appetizers, Salads, Sandwiches and entrees. I didn’t notice and specials, nor was it mention. Decent beer and wine selection. The food is upscale, American with a Michigan touch. They start you with a ciabatta roll and some red peppers in olive oil — tasty! The rolls are baked on premise. Even though there are no more than 50 tables in the place, we counted 10 servers — so service was attentive. I order the Havana sandwich with Sweet potato fries and the wife had the cobblestone salad. We were surprised how quickly the food arrived, under 10 minutes. The Havana sandwich(cuban) is spiced pull pork, with ham, a pickles, swiss cheese and mustard, pressed on a panini — to make it a warm sandwich and to meld the ingredients together. It came on a big crusty roll with grill lines, but the sandwich was cold, especially the meat inside the sandwich. The wife’s salad was fine except the dressing on the side, was basically mayonnaise Another odd thing about this place is the location of the server prep station. I guess from our table we had a front row seat. Not sure if its best thing for your customer’s to see. Big bottles of Heinz Ketchup and other items. So, when we come back, we will avoid these food choices, to see if this place can step up and find its groove in other options.

So yea. This is pretty darn good. Amazing service, and I was extremely impressed overall since they just opened two days prior. Very kid friendly! Service tipped this from 4.5 to 5 stars. Décor and ambience is quiet nice, I felt like I was kind of in a modern cabin. The sage paint combined with lighter wood was inviting and warm. The place is loud but sound deadening panels are being installed this week. They are really listening to feedback on a lot of things. –FOOD– CALAMARI: Tender, crispy, fried well with a batter that didn’t get in the way of the calamari, wasn’t thick, greasy, or off putting. I’m not usually a fan of sweet glaze on calamari but the Hawaiian Chili Glaze was not overpowering. The fried pepperoncinis were a nice touch. BEERCHEESESOUP: This was a soup of the day, not a menu staple. It was a bit bitter as they definitely used a sharp cheese. It was less creamy then other beer cheese soups I’ve had. I personally wasn’t a big fan, but that may just be my palate. This very well could be exactly how a beer cheese soup should be, and I’m not up to par. BIRKDALECRABANDSHRIMPCAKES: Lump crab and shrimp mousse with lemon butter sauce. Wow! I wanted to re-order this the second I finished. What great flavor in the lump crab held together with the perfectly seasoned binder(aka breadcrumbs) and shrimp mousse. The house-seasoned fires are crunch crack. STRIPSTEAK: Steak done just like it should be. Nice portion, good price, salt and pepper and on the grill it went. Served with the house-seasoned fries and green beans; green beans were exquisitely cooked. This was my friends dish and I sampled his steak and beans. COBBLESTONESALAD: aka Cobb Salad — Like the Strip this was not my entrée however in this case I didn’t try it but she did say she loved it. Oven-roasted turkey, Dearborn honey ham, Swiss & blue cheese, hardboiled egg, chopped bacon, and crispy onions with a Maurice dressing.(Note: The menu didn’t say it came with tomatoes, which it did and she had to pick off, however we informed management of this as a courtesy at the end of the meal and they were ecstatic to hear our feedback. Not sure if menu printing or kitchen error, but I’ll guess the former as every Google image of a ‘Cobb Salad’ has tomato on it.) SWEETPOTATOHASH: Ordered as a side item, and wasn’t very impressed. It just didn’t have a lot of flavor, and was not a harmonious hash. Red bell pepper was cut too big, the kale was not wilted enough, and the onions needed longer on the sautee. Possible kitchen growing pains. DESSERT: We sampled the Cheesecake, campfire cake, and the cobbler. All were delish, and portion perfectly after being almost stuffed from a meal. Priced well in the ~5 range. Next time it’s Shrimp and Chorizo Grits or the Pork Chop for this guy. I hear the Margarita Flatbread is very good. The Coca-cola wings and crispy shrimp app sounds delish as well.
