We highly recommend JRV Home Inspections (Jim Quarello.) Jim is extremely thorough, professional, trustworthy and educational and we wouldn’t hesitate to use him again in the future.
As first-​time home buyers, we have never had a home inspection and weren’t sure what to expect. Jim arrived early, spent a little over three hours in total, and explained exactly what he was doing throughout the inspection. He answered all of our questions as they came up – no matter how simple or basic they were. Jim’s attention to detail is so great that he even checked the cabinet screws in the kitchen and saw that they were of the incorrect type!
We received a detailed, highly organized report less than 24 hours after the inspection. Jim also included a couple of videos in his report — something we thought was a nice touch. Jim has also been available post-​inspection for any additional questions we have had and he responds very quickly via email or phone. He doesn’t run away or ignore you after the «sale.»

Jim worked with us on a short sale home purchase. Since the home had some deferred maintenance, it was crucial that we get somebody experienced and thorough. Jim came highly recommended by our agent as the top inspector in the area. I also read his blog before engaging his services, and I could tell from it that we were going to be very happy with his do-​it-​right-​the-​first-​time philosophy.
At the inspection, Jim was incredibly thorough, having inspected the roof thoroughly before we even arrived, as that section of the report attests, along with photos of a crack in the chimney. When we walked through the home together, he was down to earth and happy to answer any of our dozens of questions about what would need to be fixed immediately and what was more cosmetic.
It was clear to me through the course of the inspection that Jim was incredibly frank, knowledgeable, and willing to share his expertise.
Jim followed up with an extensive written report, including photos. I found the photos of the roof surface and chimney particularly helpful, since I had not been up there myself to see the issues with my own eyes.
I would recommend Jim without hesitation to anyone who needs an inspection done, particularly if you value expertise, thoroughness, and attention to detail.

Working with James Quarello for our recent home inspection was a great experience, through and through. I initially called him to set up the inspection with only a couple days’ notice, and he was totally accommodating.
On the inspection day, he spent four hours examining every single aspect of the house, leaving no stone unturned. I was able to follow him around the property and bombard him with questions, and he answered them all, clearly and thoroughly. My wife and I had had some familiarity with the house that we were looking to buy, but Mr. Quarello’s exhaustive inspection served as a real education on the place.
Over the next day, Mr. Quarello, provided a full inspection report with a nicely enumerated list of the issues that he had found. This list boosted our confidence as we negotiated with the seller; we knew that we were negotiating from a position of strength.

you sir, outright lied… it was the end of summer. and you did not show me any proof of the roof inspection… as a matter of fact, a few months later, i had a leak on my roof around the exhaust pipe… which you would have found if you LOOKED at my roof…

I was pulling up JRV to refer his services to a friend and I saw this negative review and I felt compelled to write one of my own. JRV spent over 3:30 hrs. throughly checking my property last fall and I couldn’t have been happier. He went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure all aspects of the inspection were explained to me (even if they were not major issues). The report he provided included hi res pictures and even video of a couple of leaky pipes. I have had 3 home inspections done and this was far and away the best. It’s funny the negative reviewer mentioned he didn’t feel like JRV was on «their» side becuase I felt that was precisely what JRV was, an advocate for me. I would and do feel 100% confident referring JRV to friends and family, he is the best!

I am shocked to see a negative review for JRV home inspection. We just had our inspection done on a house and we were more than impressed with the process. After spending a half an hour on the phone speaking with my husband about the process, what to expect and general inspection information; Jim sent him a copy of the contract via email as well as a copy of the CT regs for home inspection. None of the other companies sent this or even mentioned it and they did not spend even a fraction of the time discussing the home inspection process with us. Upon arriving at the house, Jim was already there with a team of people. They were friendly and informative. In reference to the roof situation mentioned by the other reviewer, I want to note that in our case it had rained and snowed on and off last week but Jim still was up on the roof for quite a while inspecting it. He was in crawlspaces, a grungy basement, a tiny attic and he seemed to have observed everything. He allowed us to tag along asking questions along the way. He was so helpful and informative about what we should expect and what he found. This is our first house so we were more than just a bit anxious about the inspection but he helped us relax with his calm demeanor and wealth of knowledge. He inspected the house on Friday and by Saturday night we had the report. Yes, there were seperate fees for water and radon, but that is what most companies do. It gives you the ability to test a la carte and I appreciated that we didn’t have to have more tests done than we wanted. We were able to pick and choose.
So far, our experience with JRV has been a great one. We called over 10 places before finally choosing JRV and I’m glad we did. I do not feel that Jim overlooked anything and he was very thorough. I recommend him highly!
