Surprised this place was empty when we arrived. The food is delicious! Chicken Tikka Masala, pork corgi, naan. All of it was wonderful. Fresh, flavorful, yummy.

I really liked this place. They had items that are not found at many other Indian restaurants. Service was good and they had outside seating but they could do well to buy some more comfortable chairs.

BADSERVICE, BADFOOD, MOLDINFOOD I would give this restaurant zero star if i could. We just got out of the restaurant and we are about to throw out. Tonight, a saturday night, we were craving an indian food because we love it. We decided to try this restaurant because it was in walking distance. But boy so many bad things in one night: 1– there was only one person serving and he was on the phone talking to his girl friend on speaker!!! 2– it rook him forever to come get our order and we had to call him multiple times so he can finally notice us… Given that we were the only people in restaurant that is a horrible customer service 3– we ordered chicken curry(they called it something else) and chicken tikka masala… It took him forever to bring the food. The portions were ½ of any other indian restaurant and they didnt taste anything like what we had in the past. At the middle of our dinner we found mold in vegetables in the food. We were skeptical at first because we are living in US for gods sake, but we looked deeper and it is obvious it was mold. We asked for the manager but they had no manager. It was a one man show. We asked for the check and he charged us for the whole food. We paid the full price with zero tip and got out of the restaurant. We will never go back.

Below average quality of Indian food. Menu is limited to very few options, which aren’t prepared with the right mix of spices or freshness. Even the naan tasted like the pre-packaged kind available in grocery stores. Would not recommend if you are looking for authentic, mouth-watering Indian food flavors.

I really enjoy the food here. I must admit I’m a wimp when it comes to spicey food, think Dumb and Dumber, atomic chili pepper. So, that said, they have great food here, I don’t care for spicey food, and this was good food what I ate that day

The food is great. I love the variety and food was not to spicy. I am new to food from India, but if it all taste this good, I am moving to India. You will like the food. Service is good and they serve big glasses of wine. I highly recommend this Breads of India.

I was here for lunch in group of 7. The menu is quite limited and there were hardly 2 or 3 tables occupied. After few reminders and 1 hr+ the food arrived but the hostess forgot 1 person order completely. Both the appetizers we ordered(samosa and kabab) was dreadful. The hostess never asked for drinks. — Ice tea looked more like the thai ice tea. — My lamb curry was average but the meat was not edible — My colleague ordered shrimp biryani but left half of it. The only saving grace was the breads. The hostess apologized for the many goof ups and said it was her first day on the job. I am not going back to give them a second chance though.

A rainy afternoon and time for some lunch. We saw the menu at the front door which didn’t have many choices, but we figured we would give it a try. Besides… all the Zagat ratings on the windows at the front of the business lured us in. How could we go wrong with all these positive ratings? Well… The atmosphere seemed fine to us. Everything was clean and we could smell some type of wood burning oven going, or something of the like. We were a bit surprised that there were no choices in rice. All they have is plain white. I’m a real fan of Chicken Tiki Masala and hubby is a real fan of Tandoori Lamb. We ordered both, as well as 2 different types of Naan. I found the Lamb to be really good. Spicier than I’ve normally experienced but none the less full of flavor, and plenty for the 3 of us to share. The Masala… well…it had a decent flavor and good seasonings. I found it odd that they gave us a few bits of chicken and the rest was sauce. That’s great for dipping, but hey there are 3 of us and we all got a small 1 bit of chicken each. Strange, since Lamb costs so much more and there seemed to be the proper amount there. At $ 11.95 a dish the chicken wasn’t worth it. We were not there to pay for sauce. Other choices out there… likely won’t be back.

I don’t know what most of the Unilocalers say about this place! IT’S GREAT! The food is authentic. Most Unilocalers probably never had real Indian food. Just saying! This place is great. The service is ok but the food is great! TRYTHISPLACENOW!

Meh… I ordered their Vegetable Ragu to be on the safe side because none of my co-workers like this place. I understand why now. It’s not a place I will go back to because I just don’t desire lackluster Indian food. This is very sad being that it’s one of the only indian places in Walnut Creek.

This place was okay. The menu was kind of confusing and the food was only okay. The service was very good and attentive, but I would definitely rather go somewhere else for Indian food.

I suppose it was ok for Indian food. I certainly am not a big Indian food eater, so perhaps I have not developed a palate that is quite qualified enough within the world of Indian cuisine to form an opinion, however, I did have an Indian friend from way back, that used to cook specialty Indian dishes that were actually quite good, and had me for a while craving certain Indian dishes. I can’t say that this place struck any further curiosity within me to want to Indulge in Indian cuisine anytime soon, but it was certainly ok. Errand running again, I needed food. I had been curious to check this place out after discovering it YEARS ago, but never made it a point to check it out. So being close by, as well as being the curious person I tend to be, I decided to finally give them my business– even despite the less than average reviews I read prior to coming in. It was early afternoon, and the place was near empty. Only two other guys dining in. I was greeted by a very friendly, nice girl and was asked where I would like to be seated. Before I sat, I asked her several different questions regarding the dishes they had available(the menu’s rotate daily with different options) and let her know I wouldn’t be partaking in any bread or rice(which pairs well with most of there dishes and is what usually is recommended) She made some decisions. I made up my mind and then had a seat. I ordered a dish called Rara Gosht Masala — which is cubes of sauteed lamp drenched in a spice infused curry with garlic, cumin ect. It comes with a lentil like soup, salad and rice, however, being in the carb free mode these days, I opted out on the rice. I like the nice authentic atmosphere provided, and found the dark Indian color scheme that’s streamlined throughout, to be both interesting and relaxing. A little dark, but not bad. My food arrived within 10 min after ordering. It was presented pleasantly. They made up for the lack of rice by adding more salad which was a plus. My first tasting was of the Lamb and it was good, not spectacular but decent. I felt the lamb was cooked well to were it was soft enough to where it absorbed all the flavors and made it more enjoyable. The lentil soup it comes with was way to spicy and completely bland in flavor. I understand spicy food comes with the territory of Indian food, but this was just too much, I almost wanted to ask for some salt too bring out any hindering flavor. The fresh green, minty style dressing that comes with the salad was also overbearingly spicy, though I have to say all the ingredients tasted quite fresh. Overall, I found the atmosphere to be unique and authentic. The service I received from the young girl assisting me, was very sincere and helpful. The food… definitely average at best. Prices seem to be reasonable considering what you get within the lunch special based upon my experience, but based upon the food, It really didn’t enlighten my taste buds enough to want to dine in any time soon.

Have to agree with others that I“ve had my last meal here(after 2 or 3). The atmosphere is lacking warmth/décor, and it appears dirty and threadbare. The bathroom is not really clean and/or stocked(a true sign of a good restaurant!). While the food is tasty, it’s not a good value. My last chicken dish was fatty, but tasty. The one exception is the lentil curry(which they use as a sauce for most dishes it seems). I could get that and some naan and be in heaven. On our last visit, my boyfriend and I came in on one of the hottest days of the year around 6pm because of an Indian Food hankerin’. There was NO A/C, no fans, and no ice in the water. We had to specifically ask for a glass of ICE water for each of us. We were just miserable as we sat down with our greasy menus.(The tables were not very clean either despite the fact that the restaurant had just opened.) The two hostesses/wait staff behind the counter at the back did not seem interested in any level of service after seating us and taking our order. We had to ask for whatever we wanted. So it was good that we were the only ones crazy enough to eat hot, spicy Indian food on such an evening(and seated in one of the few non-sunny spots in the very back of the no airflow dining area – too hot to sit outside!). No one bothered to check on us, ask us about the food, etc. Again, we had to call them over each time. When I asked for more napkins, I got one single napkin. So all-in-all the service needs much, much work. And the bill was too high for this level of service and amount of food, so we won’t be coming back.

The tandoori chicken was very dry, the portions were small, and the flavor of the curries were muted. Service was friendly, but the restaurant itself is plain and uninteresting.

Epic fail! This place is simply an affront to Indian food. First impression upon walking in is that it is dusty and has an unkempt interior. Food was just plain bad. The rice was *seriously* under-done, the prawn vindaloo sauce tasted like it was heated and served out of a ready-made sauce can(rich in preservatives), and their exotic sounding Biriyani was cooked in re-used cooking oil! Their only saving grace that tasted edible/good are the papadum and their spinach paratha. The spinach paratha is by no means a paratha. It was in fact a roti, but tasted fine nevertheless(and was made fresh). Being a conscious eater that values the ingredients in my food, I will never go back to this place, or any of their branches(if they are still in business).

My roommate and I decided on this place after wanting to find a restaurant with outdoor seating to enjoy the lovely, warm afternoon. Big mistake. The service was sub par and for the price(which was $ 56 for two) was not worth it. The portions are small, the food was bland, the bread was blah, and the cocktails and water… ugh…no ice and just generally not good. Definitely won’t be going back!

I’ve eaten Indian food for 20 years. This is the first time that I’ve ever felt disappointed and felt like it just wasn’t worth it. On a chilly Saturday night, we were seated right by the door, although there were other tables available. They didn’t even give us the table that was shielded when the door opened. Each time someone came in or out, cold wind wrapped around us. Special thanks to the folks who just held the door open and left s-l-o-w-l-y. Most Indian food in the US is from the Punjab. I was excited to find dishes from other parts of India. But the food wasn’t that good. The portions were small and the quality was lacking. Not that flavorful. I love Indian breads. Love it. Not much to say about their bread, even the specialty breads. The woman at the table next to me had her dog on her lap, which I think is a violation of the health code. This is not France. Leave your dog at home when you go out to eat! restaurateurs: step it up and don’t let customers bring animals! Throw in the lack of decoration and the peeling wall paper and you have good idea of what this place is.

Meh sums it up perfectly. I’ll repeat it. Meh. The place really does sound more interesting than your average Indian place and maybe if we had ordered some of the specialty breads, we would have been more impressed What we did order(this was lunch mind you) was the Chicken Biryani($ 12.95) and the goat curry(13.95). The latter came with your choice of naan or rice. The food was pretty average Indian. Not bad, but not great. The chicken biryani was not spicy enough. The goat curry was really fatty(although this is usual for this dish). I’ve had much better Indian dishes at any number of hole in the wall, much cheaper Indian restaurants. I guess we were paying for the Walnut Creek location and the sit-down ambiance? Unfortunately, the service was really slow despite the place being almost completely empty aside from ourselves. I guess the local Indian populace know better and go to the plethora of cheaper, better Indian places you can find further south starting in San Ramon.

It always makes me sad to stroll through Walnut Creek and see all of these mediocre fusion restaurants booming with business, while my favorite Breads of India is relatively empty. People, please eat here! You will be doing yourselves a huge favor! Probably since I’ve gotten sick at a couple of Indian places, I used to think that most of them were unsanitary and cheap. However, the Breads of India in Walnut Creek uses really fresh ingredients, and are very conscious of using organic meats and wild salmon. This is my favorite Asian food in all of Walnut Creek. I can’t stand all of the neighboring Asian fusion places, but I guess sometimes I have to realize where I am exactly, and who most of the food is catered to. Anyway, if you want clean, spicy, and savory Indian food, please help these guys out and treat yourself to a nice feast. All the servers here are super nice as well.

4 stars for the food — ingredients are fresh, the nan was large and tasty. The menu is simple yet incredibly hard to read. This place needs a menu redo and maybe a reinvention as an Indian tapas restaurant. Docking a star because they screwed up my order. I ordered Tikka Masala for my kids and Vindaloo for myself, extra spicy on the latter. Instead, my kids sucked down all their water before shrieking HOT! The waiter was nowhere to be found for a while(didn’t check on the food shortly after serving it) and the useless waitress was just leaning against the back wall doing nothing instead of working as a team. If you’re not looking for a buffet experience, the food is good, and worth a try. But the service and menu both need some work, emphasis on the service. To his credit, the waiter was apologetic, when he finally emerged.
