Fraedo’s Cafe

All around a bad experience, in every aspect.
I work on Ygnacio Valley and ordered breakfast for the office. It was I think a Tuesday morning, pretty early. I called in my order and the man on the phone clearly did not understand a word I was saying, although I was trying to speak clearly. I asked for a plate of scrambled eggs with sausage on the side, he asked if I wanted that in a breakfast burrito or a breakfast sandwich. I said neither, I wanted just a plate with scrambled eggs and sausage. Again he asked if I wanted a burrito or a sandwich. By the third time, he got it. I tried to order a bagel, he said they were out of all bagels. I tried to order a muffin, he said they were out of all muffins except one chocolate left, so I said I’d take that. Every time I tried to order something for myself, they were out of something. I ordered a small iced vanilla latte, and a large iced vanilla latte, among other items for coworkers.
The delivery took almost two hours. Every time I called they told me he was on his way. When the food got there, I was stupid enough to let them drop it off and leave. When I looked at the order, they had forgotten the muffin all together, and charged me for two large iced lattes when we received a small and a large. One star for the rest of my coworker’s meals being decent. Won’t be going here again.

I had an important business lunch and requested delivery of sandwiches and salads. The driver was 30 minutes late (which is half the time of their entire lunch) and the Dr at the office had to leave for surgery and didn’t get to eat. ON TOP OF THAT they didn’t bring me the chicken ceaser salad they charged me for and so another person in the office didn’t get lunch. Food was decent nothing special.

If there is one thing this place doesn’t have, its bad customer service. That’s just judging from my experience at least.
The woman at the counter who took our order was the happiest I’ve ever seen anyone, at any counter, ever. Almost too happy… just kidding. But seriously, her smile alone was addicting, and even before trying my sandwich I was already happy. The gentleman standing behind her and making sandwiches also had a very friendly vibe to him. They also brought us our sandwiches as we sat outside.
I ordered the Chicken Chipotle sandwich which was quite good. It had thick cuts of chicken breast that was between dry and juicy. It was right in the middle but it was also perfectly fine since everything else complimented it so well. The tomato, the chipotle mayonnaise, and the melted cheddar cheese. Especially that chipotle mayo. Holy crap I may be in love.
This place is definitely one to check out, especially if you work in the downtown Walnut Creek area.

Once this place got sold the service has gone so far downhill it’s insane. They raise prices constantly. They use less and less meat in sandwiches. The drinks are way overpriced. This used to be my go to lunch spot but since it was sold I avoid it now. There are much better options at better prices.

I was fairly excited to try this place as I heard it was good. I decided to order for delivery. DO NOT DO THAT. I went through a food ordering service, & thank god I did because I would have never gotten a refund otherwise. First of all, I ordered an hour and a half before they closed. Thought that would be enough time. They confirmed my order and said it would be here in 60 minutes. I waited 90 minutes to contact them, didn’t answer the phone. Called my ordering service, told them what was going on, and they reported back that the «food was with the driver and on it’s way.» I waited another 30 minutes before calling them again. They clearly lied to the ordering service, but luckily the ordering service made it right, as the restaurant was unreachable. I’m never ordering from this café again.

Gotta echo the other comments — delicious, filling, well-​made sandwich, made by the warm and friendly owner, plus bought some chips and a drink. When it came time to pay he didn’t have enough ones to make change, and just charged me $ 10 for what was an $ 11 bill! My only critique is the lack of outside seating — just one table — but there are other places to sit e.g. on some low walls outside. There’s also an empty adjoining internal space but even that only has 4 or so tables, and of course it’s inside…
In any event, solid and delicious food at a reasonable price. I’m definitely coming back for mid-​week lunches!

SOUP — Chicken Tortilla Soup
Good. Thick and lots of chicken. Very filling, could be lunch itself. Would love to have it again.
HOT PASTRAMI
Really good! I did ask for extra meat so I am not sure if they added extra cause it did not seem like a lot to me. The pastrami had great flavor with the sourdough!
TUNA MELT
First off, it says on the menu: Tuna (hot), pepper jack cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, peppers and pepperoncini. I ordered this with no onions, peppers and pepperoncini. I get the sandwich, they didn’t have anything on that list except for the tuna and cheese. The tuna was good but could have used a little more spices, like maybe pepper or paprika to give it a kick with the cheese.
STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE
Really good and thick creamy. Not bad for $ 3 for a 20 oz.
I did order a combo for chips and a drink but never got that. Overall it was good but I hesitate since they messed up on my order.

Really enjoyed my polish dog, the dog was longer than the sweet roll and just done perfectly

I have been here a few times now, and have really had a good sandwich each time. The owner is so friendly and wants to make sure you get what you came for. I went during the world cup, and he made sure whom ever wanted to stay and watch it on his TV, could. He was rearranging tables, so everyone could enjoy the game.

I like Fraedo’s a lot. It’s a basic Deli but they make good sandwiches, salads and even a breakfast bagel. I work in Grower’s Square and when I don’t have time to pack a lunch I just run downstairs and get a sandwich or salad. I like the owner who is really sweet and the two other workers he has there. If you looking for a basic sandwich or salad that won’t break the bank Fraedo’s is definitely a good place.

The restaurant was awesome chef is very knowledgeable and made me a true Sicilian sandwich. it doesn’t look like much buy do yourself a favor and go eat there! awesome people and very delicious, definitely going back again.

Have you tried the Fraedoburger? Get it with eggs! You will not be disappointed. If you’re adventurous, add bacon! And ask about the soup or chili of the day.

After reading all the Unilocal reviews and hearing how good this place is from fellow co workers, I thought I’d give this place a try. I for one wasn’t too impressed by their food, though you get a lot of food for $ 8.50, it was nothing to brag about. I had the chicken parmesan sandwich with chili as a side. The chicken Parmesan was kind of cold, and chili is chili, nothing to extraordinary. The workers were friendly which is a plus

I know the owner (Ali) and so stopped in for the first time to experience the food at his restaurant. I had seen all these great reviews about his place before I stopped in and was curious to try the food myself, and experience it myself. Tell you what, the chef is a very creative guy! I, being a vegetarian could not try the meats. By say this, the chef whipped a couple of flat breads together with all kids of FRESH vegetables, cheeses and a dressing of his own creation which was amazing. Check this place out guys. Very friendly environment, owner is very nice, chef is very exprerinced and great at what he does and the price is right.

I quite literally just stumbled into this place the other day. Doesn’t look like much from the outside so I almost didn’t stop in, but I’m so glad I did.
I agree with what a lot of what Tone said — except my sandwich was even cheaper! ($ 5.99) The owner was super nice and the chef was very enthusiastic and super nice too! What a difference that makes. It made my morning to be honest. And he had reason to be enthusiastic, I ordered the special buffalo chicken sandwich (boar’s head), and it is DELICIOUS. Like write home about it delicious. Yum.
If I ever find myself around there again and I would most definitely go back!

Great menu. Everything made fresh. Including «mushy pea» soup and Chicken Parmesan Sandwich!!! Great spot for lunch, sandwich specials start 7.00! Owner is super nice and quick to offer samples. They are bringing it, with a very enthusiastic chef in the back and a huge selection of grab and go salads and mini cheese platters. Also a full espresso menu with crazy drinks. one was called the «LOVE BELOW’ and «BUTTERBEER».Awesome spot in the downtown walnut creek. in the middle of growers square!!!

The owner is really nice. The sandwiches are large and tasty. Try the Chicago hot dog, yummy.

Great new place in Grower’s Square in downtown Walnut Creek! I love the fact that this new place has reasonable prices, which as we know, is getting more and more rare downtown.
Great selection of ready-​made items, drinks, coffees, and made to order sandwiches. The owner is personable and the customer service is fantastic.
My favorate new place for a quick, tasty, and reasonable lunch downtown.
