I saw Dr. Bernhoft first for my painful knee. He was kind and thoughtful, and he removed a lot of fluid from my knee. I came to realize after awhile that surgery was necessary. I believe he no longer performs surgeries, so Dr. Miranda was recommended who performed knee replacement. I think seeing Dr. Bernhoft is a good place to start before running off to surgery.

Jerome Bernhoft is a doctor at Muir Orthopedics. This review is only for Dr. Bernhoft. I went to see him for a painful shoulder caused by a massage therapist practically pulling my arm out of it’s socket trying to increase my range of motion instantly(what was she thinking?!). Bernhoft made a few very cursory movements to my arm, felt around the shoulder, and after about 60 seconds said he couldn’t find anything wrong and ordered X-rays. X-rays came back negative so he said take Alleve for a few weeks and if it didn’t get better come back. A couple weeks went by taking Alleve with no improvement, so rather than go back to him I went to Tice Valley Physical Therapy in Walnut Creek. Don, the owner, saw me, did a very thorough examination moving my arm in every possible direction, and determined the best course of treatment which included ice, electrotherapy, ultrasound and stretching. He and his assistant worked on my shoulder for an hour and sent me home with detailed instructions on how to help with the recovery. I made an appointment for a couple follow up treatments. My shoulder felt noticeably better after just one treatment. The difference in approach between Bernhoft and Tice Valley was like night and day. To be fair, there are doctors at Muir Orthopedics who have done a great job on my sons(broken clavicle and ACL tears) so I have nothing bad to say about the doctors they saw. But my advice is if you need an orthopedist and you go to Muir be sure you don’t let them schedule you with Bernhoft! It may end up being a total waste of time, and money, as it was for me.
