North Peak Riding Academy

My daughter loves riding here. Deb is amazing with the horses and with her students. Highly recommend! My daughter looks forward to each lesson with Deb and never wants it to end.

Lovely barn, great horses, horrible instructor. I’m an adult returning to ride so know enough, but not the Deb way of doing things. Unfortunately Deb often teaches by telepathy — the horse care aspects, tacking up and the riding, and woe on you if you don’t immediately understand what is required as Deb will yell and belittle you.
I struggled with my diagonals and never understood whether Deb was telling me I was right or wrong. Several times she asked me if I was doing it right, sometimes answering that she was just checking, leaving me very confused.
Another young girl had used the wrong girth one day (remember, there’s no guidance) and Deb took her off yelling in the middle of class as she went to change it. The girl shortly afterwards just quit the lesson as Deb continued to shout abuse.
I gave up my lessons leaving in credit as I could no longer take the weekly stress of not knowing what I was doing wrong.

If you really want to learn to ride, North Peak Riding Academy is the place to do it. Deb is exceptional at understanding each rider’s learning style and she teaches with a perfect balance of challenge and encouragement. She supports each student in improving and at the same time never puts us in unsafe situations. I’m learning to ride in my 40’s so she’s great with adult riders, and from what I’ve observed she’s also wonderful at teaching kids. The horses and ponies are healthy and are treated with respect, love and care.

As a middle aged mom, I returned to the saddle 2 years ago after a long hiatus and I’m so happy to have found North Peak Riding Academy! I take weekly lessons and can’t say enough good things about Deb & the program. The barn environment is safe, clean & welcoming. The lesson horses are exceptionally well cared for & loved. Deb is a patient instructor, perfectly in tune to the riders’ abilities.
