Without going into great detail about my medical situation, let me say that after a long history of athletics including among other things, marathons, long distance swimming, skydiving, and bicycle racing, I find myself in the position of needing a structured exercise program that will work with my current physical limitations. RAW has been spectacular. I have tried other gyms but found them un-motivating and in general, unsatisfactory. I also found it easy to get injured from over use and poor form. At RAW there are structured programs and there is always someone available to help with proper form and to explain the why of whatever exercise is on the program for the day. If you are serious about wanting to get in shape, this is the place to go.

I can’t say enough about RAW. I started there when I was 39, a lifelong aerobics person, but not in the shape I thought I should be in for someone going to the gym 3 – 4 nights a week. Within 3 months at RAW I not only got in the best shape of my life, I learned about how muscle contributes to your well-being, how to eat properly, how to power lift and loved it(little old girl me got really really good at the dead lift) and that«weighlifting» does not make a woman bulk up if you are doing it for health and fitness(but they also train pro Fitness competitors and can get you competition ready if that’s what you want). He gradually worked me up in strength. Tom is hands down the best trainer I’ve ever used. Tori is great too. Tom listens but he pushes, he warms you up and massages/stretches you after. He is genuinely concerned about how you feel, how you eat, your mind, and making sure you understand the«why» behind what you’re doing. I am also very impressed by how Tom worked with the high school athletes. He has such a warm demeanor, but firm, like a really inspirational coach. Never yells(I hate those boot camp type instructors). My teenage sons and his athlete friends loved stopping by while I was there. Tom would chat with them about their workouts, their plans, super nice and interested. On the practical side: great location next to Lunardi’s, lots of free parking, good prices, clean equipment and plenty of it, large space. My life has gotten chaotic the past year, hoping someday to get back to RAW. Give it a try, not your average gym at all.

I’ve always been pretty active(swimming, bowling, basketball, hockey) and over the years I’ve been a member at a few different gyms. I’m over the whole 24hr fitness thing. So when I started at Raw I expected to workout in the same manner; see weights, use weights. I was wrong. After an evaluation from Tom, the owner and head trainer, I was soon doing exercises that I had never done before. Strengthening parts of my body that would improve my «function,» and thus my overall strength. There is a pretty heavy focus on legs. With individual training and group training, you are often working out with other athletes, be it adults or students. I’m very happy with my performance after starting in this gym!
