This place was pretty bad. When I walked in, it smelled of cigarettes. I got my cut by a middle aged white man. He can’t really do a fade correctly and he isn’t very careful with your hair. When he was fading, he was chopping off parts of the top of my hair. I asked for about an inch off the top and he cut it super short. :/

Good customer service. Very talkative barber and very easy to talk to. $ 15/head is a little steep for me. Maybe they should offer student discounts

Shaun is the new barber now. He’s a nice guy. From all the times I been there, he’s done an exceptional job at cutting other people’s hair as I wait. They never say anything, he greets them and goes right away at cutting … which tells me these are regulars, they keep coming back. The barbers in my area have done horrible jobs of my hair and I couldn’t afford to keep going to different places. I wanted to give Shaun a chance in doing up my hair. I knew what I wanted but I didn’t know the hair terminology in what I wanted done — so despite any hair jobs done NOT to my liking, I was going to stick with Shaun and keep coming back. Three tries later, I figured out what I wanted my hair to look like and Shaun got it right — so from this point on — he’s my guy to cut hair. I’m happy… and he’s happy… and the place is a minute away… that’s how it is. Plus the location is nostalgic and the OG spot for Walnut high school alumni to get a drive-by and a cut if they want.

I went in for a haircut on a Saturday morning as an experiment to see if I switched barbers. Needless to say, I am not a new customer. There was on two barbers on, an Asian guy and an older Asian lady. The guy cut my hair, basically gave me a flat top I didn’t ask for. I also didn’t like the fact he did a trim, or I don’t know what it’s called to the front. He trimmed back the corners of my forehead. It was really weird and I did not like it at all. I’m in my mid 30’s and I’ve seen teenagers with that stuff. I would recommend for younger kids if that’s what they’re looking for.

As others have said, Mike has retired and along with that so has the quality. I’ve been back twice since Mike has been gone and received haircuts from the Asian lady and the guy with glasses. The guy gave me a solid fade and a nice shave. Was pleased with how it turned out after being skeptical since Mike was gone. However, the Asian lady cut my hair in 6 minutes flat. Was completely different from what I wanted and buzzed off a ton of hair off the top. She also didn’t do a shave because she doesn’t know how. I spent more time choosing beer at walnut liquorette than she did cutting my hair. At this point I hope I can fix it somehow by going to another Barber. Only reason this gets 2 stars is because the guy is still good and walnut liquorette has a great selection of beer.

Best barber shop. My son has been coming to Mike since he was 2 and I will not take him anywhere else! Cuts are always even and lines are sharp!

Posting up this review on behalf of my boyfriend: Mike’s 5 star barber shop has gone down to a negative one since his retirement. Went in for a haircut about five weeks ago, asked for a flat top. I came out looking like i was in a grunge fight, instead of having bruises on my face, i only had patches of hair on my head. If they would have put a picture of Buckwheat and myself, Buckwheat would have made the cover of Esquire magazine.

The ONLY reason Mike’s is getting a 1-star instead of a 5-star is because Mike has retired. My family has been going to Mike for over 20 years. I went in today to get my hair trimmed, saw the back door was opened, and a new guy was smoking, looking at a notebook just outside the door. Nobody was in there, and Mike ALWAYS had a wait around lunchtime(and even after). I had a horrible feeling that Mike had retired. Anyway, I asked if he was the new owner. He said that he was the new barber, but didn’t give a name. I said that Mike normally cut the dead stuff off for me since I’m growing my hair out, and if I could get a trim. He looked at me like I had 2 heads, then stuttered a bit before saying, «Uh, I think there is someone in there. She might be able to do it.» I thought, «You’re a barber and can’t cut hair?!» He walked to the back, then came back and said, «Uh, yeah… sorry…» What a bad business decision. They shouldn’t have the«Open» sign on if aren’t taking people, or maybe have a «:Men’s Hair Only» sign… Sometimes change is good, but I don’t think it is for this place. So sad; that small-town feel and hominess is gone. I highly doubt it will last.

This is a classic place for men to get their hair cut! Highly recommend it. They did a great job fixing my husbands hair after I attempted to cut it. Best barber show in county!

Mike’s is as American as you can get. Deer, antlers, rabbits with antlers, fishing, ducks, calendar with pictures of the presidents of the US, fridge with beer in the back, and good olé’ fashioned guy talk. I grew up getting haircuts from Mike and Fred. The third chair was always empty or another random elderly man would occupy it. On Saturday mornings, coffee and donuts were always provided. When I was younger, Mike or Fred always gave me a penny to get a gum ball from the machine they had. I could go on and on reminiscing about my time there but that would require more reading for you, the reader. I’ll save sharing about the good days when I’m holding a mojito, but message me if you’d like to read some essays of my memories at the barber shop. Sadly, I turned metro and also learned about salons run by Asians that provide cuts I want for cheaper. Damn those immigrants taking away true Americans’ business: P On a serious note, this is a place that is easy to love. They can provide a clean, simple cut and they’re all easy to talk with even if you are a newcomer. Trust.

Mike’s harkens back to a simpler time of the classic barber shop. It has a masculine feel to it, not fancy by any means. The look and feel is a nice change from the androgynous modern salon. Mike and his two cohorts, Fred & Terry, are nice and seem interested in their repeat customers lives. Now as to the service… The haircuts are adequate but not great. You have to be very clear about what you want or you will look a bit like a marine. The shop is set up for washing and even shaves, neither of which they apparently do. I was looking forward to a straight razor shave and was disappointed when I found out they don’t do them. The price is the same as most of the chain salons so you are paying a bit of a premium considering a wash is not included. I doubt I will be returning but I suggested my father visit.

Mike’s is your classic barber shop. I haven’t had a bad cut by Mike, unfortunately I can’t say the same of Fred, his partner. The shop itself is class, Mike is an avid hunter and fisherman and you’ll get that right away with the trophies and pictures on the wall. They even have a little living room in the back which is more like a testosterone lounge with a beer-filled fridge and a TV.
