Went back for second visit. Service was top notch, not one best was missed. Food was stellar. Had the Korean short rib dish, just enough spice heat to make it perfect. Husband had the liver which he enjoyed as well. He enjoyed his maple whisky drink too. I stop at the chocolate shop for take home treats for a later date topped off the even. oh the Port was a perfect way to end the meal! Will be back again!!!

Still as good as it ever was… We visited for lunch and noticed a few changes as the chocolate part of Burdicks has been sold, but the restaurant remains with the original owners, however we understand that they now have a new owner chef as part of the line up. Rest assured the food is good as it always was, we had a clam pasta dish which was delicious. We sat at the bar and chatted with Betsy who was a delight! The staff all seemed to be positive and we heard they had a recent turnover of staff, however the current crew seem to be very professional. We understand they have plans for a few more draught beer lines(smart idea) as well as offering some tasting events, which we think can only add to the charm. The village store which supplies much of the food next door to the restaurant is still a gem and we will certainly be back later in the spring

This is quite the place! Seven of us had brunch here. The toddler had pancakes and hot chocolate and was pleased. I was one of several who got a bite and agreed on the pancakes. My wife had an arugula salad with chèvre and butternut squash and a trio of pâtés. I had corned beef hash nd poached eggs. My wife had a chocolate dessert. I had no starter and no dessert. Others had a variety of breakfast and lunch items. Service was excellent. The Bloody Marys we’re excellent. We were happy to be there.

Excellent coffee, chocolate & macaroons . For brunch I had the chicken liver special in a white wine based sauce with tomatoes, olives, potatoes & spinach — one of the best liver dishes(it’s hard to get liver exactly right) I’ve ever had. My husband had the farm egg omelette which was another great dish. The service was also really good.

I was actually a little hesitant to come here because of the 3 ½ star Unilocal rating, but it was actually great! We came on a Weds. night so there was no wait and the service was prompt. The inside is wonderful, romantic, French-inspired ambience with candles on the tables and white tablecloths. I was worried that the prices would be high with small portions, but I would go as far to say the portions were hearty. I LOVED the salad I got with added grilled chicken. I do wish the chicken had more flavor or seasoning — I ended up leaving some on my plate but ate every bit of the blue cheese chunks and greens. I just love that they list which farms they source their produce from and that they use local ingredients. Hint: You can order off the dessert menu, or you can pick something from their attached chocolatier shop and have it served as your dessert and added to your tab. I did think the hot chocolate and lattes were extremely expensive for the size but I will write a separate review for those and the chocolatier…

I’ve eaten at Burdicks at least six times – lunch and dinner – and each time has never disappointed. I’ve ordered a range of dishes: beef stew, hangar steak, beef liver, and lighter fare such quiche and salad and each has been terrific. In fact, I’m right now arranging a dinner with friends from CT who have a vacation place in VT to meet at Burdicks. The ambience is very nice, quiet, subdued lighting, excellent service and terrific food. I look forward to returning soon.

We went with our friends and all four of us thought the dinners were fabulous! From the liver and onions to the lamb we all enjoyed our entrees very much. DESSERT however, was another story– the mocha cake was stale with very little flavor –it was not good — which was quite a disappointment considering where we were! Overall a good experience

Ate lunch here today with my husband and Mum, it was wonderful. I had quiche, Mum had an amazing grilled cheese ham sandwich… French name, I do not remember. My husband had the oysters and a pasta dish with beef. Service was great and very knowledgable staff. Highly recommend.

rainy day lunch recently… lovely place but you have to get past all the chocolate counters first… was moderately busy for a not very nice day, steak frites excellent, was flank steak and cooked as ordered along with some good frys, trout was excellent and we even cheated a little and split a desert which was great… has a full bar but it is limited and service was a little slow at time… but, enjoyed ourselves and it was a good day not to be rushed!!!

I too am from seattle and wish to reply to the peter r from seattle’s review. He comes across as snotty and arrogant and i dont like to think that is how we seattle folks are. I have been coming to burdick’s since the restaurant opened. Basically, whenever we come to new hampshire we make a point of coming down. There are very few comparably high end restaurants in the upper valley, particularly for lunch. We love the lyonnaise salad and the liver., among many other items. Who serves delicious liver anymore? The bread is delicious and they will bring excellent olive oil to go with it if you ask. I agree service can be spotty. Walpole is not seattle or boston or new york and its work force can reflect that. All is forgiven when the exquisite little chocolates are put on the table… for free… with your check. Get over yourself peter r from seattle!

What a great dining experience!!! Suggested by a friend who spends time in the area. Had lunch here on a rainy afternoon. They were running a special on lobster-what a treat. Done to perfection & very tasty. Four of us dined here & in addition to the lobster we had the lintel soup with bacon bits-yummy. One of us had the fried Bavarian bleu cheese with flash cooked parsley-also yummy. Very nice wine list-ordered a really good Pinot blanc from Willamette Valley which was served appropriately by our wait person-chilled, but not too much. The service from Amanda was out-standing & ambience unexpected for a local small village. We’ve been blessed to have eaten @ restaurants in France & around the world & this may be as good as any without all the snobbery. We will likely not be back in NH but will not forget this experience. Also thought very reasonably priced. Just in passing-Ken Burns happened to be dining here @ the same time.

A great restaurant is always a treat, but finding one in a small town is very special! I have lived in NYC for the past 20 years, and I know what makes a great restaurant, and this is a great restaurant. I have only been here once, but I will be sure to stop back the next time I am in the area. I was a surprised to see the poor rating on Unilocal, but after seeing the complaints, it’s easy to see it has nothing to do with the food. I can’t believe someone is complaining about the size of a $ 5 cheese plate, come on, what to you think you will get for $ 5

We have been there a half dozen times for lunch and each time the food has been terrific. The soups are fantastic; the quiche is sinful and I had roast duck pasta yesterday that was top notch. The only thing keeping me from the 5th star is the service. We are always looked after and tended to well, but the servers tend to be perfunctory and not especially warm. Also I have never seen the same servers twice. But the food is the best in the area, bar none.

So tired of the I am better than you attitude of this place. I live in Keene and will not make the trip ever again. The chocolate is average and the coffee below average. The food is good but not worth dealing with the snobs whom work there.

A hidden gem! The ambiance is that of a French farmhouse, lit with shaded lamps and candles; a large wax-covered candelabra greets you as you enter. The tables are spaced nicely apart and are covered with fresh white linen and small, real candles. Service was very nice. The food was reasonably priced and there was a nice variety of lesser and greater priced items. I had the omelet which was done perfectly. Others in my party enjoyed the mussels, octopus, and lamb curry. The cheese was tasty, and so were the desserts. The wine was a very generous pour. The bill came with chocolates, which was a nice touch. The organic cola was tasty. Also, I want to note that the bathrooms were fresh and clean, and that you can eat outside on the front porch area. Really great, so happy we found this place and will go again. If you go, make a reservation – it fills up really fast. Also, save a few minutes to visit the chocolate shop adjacent. I want to also note that they have many gluten-free meal options as well as two fabulous desserts that are gluten-free!

This is an absolutely gorgeous looking place in the tiny hamlet of Walpole. White tablecloth, very Parisian feeling cozy spot. With issues. Seated on a Sunday, no wait. Good. Did not drink alcohol, as I was driving, but the wine list looked promising. Friend asked for soda, was told a bit brusquely, they only do organic soft drinks. He said it was awful. Not good. Most items were breakfast related, understandable for a brunch, no blame there. Salads, Soup, Mussels, Bread all were top notch. Good. The $ 5.00 cheese platter, was criminal. Wife too a pic of the portion. 2 pieces of cheese and a dollop of fig preserve. 5 crostini. If there was a tenth of an ounce of cheese… Slivers describes it best. We cut it into bites. Micro sized nibble. Not good. Should have complained, our fault. Complimentary chocolates for dessert, they own the chocolate shop attached next door. AMAZING flavors, better than GOOD! Bill came, the computer had added $ 5 to the mussels special, we were first to point it out, not sure what that’s about. Refunded the overage, good ending but not a good system. A mess of mixed messages in this place. Feels better than it delivered. Try the tavern around the block next time? Service was good, but when you look this good you gotta deliver real goods. B–
