Mal Elfman’s

If you need carpet or area rugs GO THERE! They have a decent selection of bound remnants at excellent prices (great value on bound wool carpet) and if they don’t have the size you want, they’ll cut down a larger one and have it bound in a week (costs a little more, but you get the exact size you need).
An old review said they didn’t have much selection (wrong!). Go downstairs! Huge selection of carpeting and flooring. If you can’t find something you like then I don’t know what to tell you. Another review said not much to look at from the outside (agreed), but don’t let that stop you from going in (and going downstairs!!)
Based on my experience (two visits), I’ll definitely be back and would definitely recommend.

After much time spent shopping, hauling samples and torturing my husband by asking his opinion about carpet for our living room, Mall Elfman’s saved the day. They are by far the best in service (shout out to Paul Jackson who was delightful at every step) and their prices are 25% less than a well known store in Wellesley. Fantastic!

I sent this company a message saying I didn’t like seeing bumper stickers on one of their vans promoting gun ownership, and referring to our President as a Marxist and a Communist. I then said I wouldn’t use them for my services in the future should I need any carpeting or flooring. This is the response from them that I received:
«Hi Michael, Thank you for bring this to our attention. We have many company vehicles on the road, so this has gone unnoticed. We don’t believe we should have any bumper stickers promoting anything beyond our company on our vehicles & we will have them removed.
I am sorry to hear you will not be a potential future customer, but I am relieved we will not have to deal with you as your „progressive“, socialist personality will probably expect hard working, tax paying Americans to pay the bill for your flooring anyway.»
Wonderful, masterful customer service right there. Also, way to say you won’t promote anything beyond your services, and then completely contradict yourself by promoting right-​wing, Fox News propaganda. Choose these guys at your own risk, fellow Unilocalers.

i’ve bought wool carpeting from elfman’s in the past and they’ve always been great to deal with. i especially like their remnants section, where you can get great deals — even on normally expensive wool carpeting!
this time i got a large piece of wool sisal carpeting free on craigslist and elfman’s agreed to install it for me, even though I didn’t buy the carpet from them.
i’m so glad they did. the piece was incredibly heavy for me to move, but their guys handled it effortlessly. they did a very professional job of installation. they were polite, respectful of my home, efficient and accommodating. I’m happy to recommend them to anyone needing reasonably priced carpeting and professional service.

Nor much to look at from the outside, and not a wide range of selection.
But… this is THE place for high quality and CHEAP furniture, mattresses, and rugs. I’ve purchased a dining room table and chairs set and some matress set here, and I could not have been more pleased with the sales and delivery or the durability of the items.
The big difference between here and the big stores is that they probably have less than 10 varieties of whatever item it is you want. And you know what? That actually makes it way easier to shop, particularly when all ten are well made and bargain priced.

We’ve gotten a few pieces of furniture at Mal Elfman’s. Prices are good and my favorite thing about Mal Elfman’s? The people who work there are NOT pushy. They don’t try to upsell or convince you to get something that you really don’t need or want.

Mal Elfmans sits betwixt the bars and restaurants of Moody Street, and is a hidden little gem for rugs galore and select furniture. Awesome prices and a good carpet selection at a place that you would never think to even look (unless you live right there or are reading this review). My last trip there, I left with THREE 9×12 rugs and one matching runner (maybe 3×15 or so?) for 500 bucks. Delivered. Bam.
