We got delivery and the food was generally good, but they messed up a spicy tuna maki order, and gave me one roll with just lettuce inside. And none of the rolls had rice… Also, the delivery guy just let himself into the apartment 10 seconds after ringing the doorbell.

Yummy, fresh sushi, and fast delivery! One of my favorites in the area!

We ordered several cooked and raw tapas, all good, but especially the sushi pizza and the Ponzu appetizer sampler. For the rolls, the best were the Red Sox Maki and the Soft-shelled crab Maki(spider roll).

The wife and I enjoy going here for date night due to its proximity. The quality tends to be rather low. The rolls taste great, but are poorly rolled and often fall apart on the plate. Staff is attentive which makes for an overall good experience. While we usually go for dinner, they do offer a $ 16(after tax) sushi buffet during lunch time on weekdays. I’ve only made it once and it was well worth the $ 16. In terms of sushi in Waltham, Ponzu is one of the best.

Ponzu has been my family’s go-to restaurant on Moody St. for a number of years now. Can’t get enough of their eggplant with garlic sauce. Also enjoy the Thai iced tea and the tapioca dessert. Friendly service and the food is always steaming hot.

I love PONZU, both the food and the family atmosphere. It’s a great example of Asian Fusion, classic dishes exquisitely prepared without the boredom of one cuisine My problem with most Asian restaurants is chop chpp Same old same old. they dont try to Wow you. This place will wow you for sure The chef is a nice guy with a sense of humor and I admire ad respect how he has his life wife and LOVEly daughters working g for him They obviously adore him

I came here with a friend for sushi buffet lunch on a weekday. The bar section of the restaurant doubled as the buffet line with the spread being laid out there, which was fine. Service was okay, though not exactly showing much of a pulse. The miso soup starter was acceptable, but not warm. The fish was generally fine and there was a diverse assortment of nigiri sushi and rolls. I mostly went for the tuna nigiri but there was salmon and yellowtail as well. Their spicy tuna roll was decent as well as their other rolls. Overall, the rice for the sushi was at the right temperature and not clumpy. Having seaweed salad was a nice touch and I went for that heavily. There were some typical Asian-esque hot entrees and appetizers(like crab rangoon), but I only went for a couple of crab rangoons for sake of variety. If you can pound nigiri sushi like a champ, this lunch buffet might be worthwhile for you. Just note: I’m not sure if they have lunch buffet all the time, so you might have to inquire before going. Duck over cooked and dry. Vegetables clearly from frozen and not reheated properly. Salmon Maki bland. «Sweet potato» roll made from regular potato. Overall unimpressive.

Quick bite to eat needed and wanted to keep it healthy. Saw the Unilocal reviews and thought to give it a try. Service seated me near the portable heater after I said how cold it was outside. Nice touch. Quickly took my order and just as quick brought it out. Got to people watch, listen to the waterfall and sit by a nice heater while having some sushi. Doesn’t get much better than that.

The sushi was average. We got the seaweed salad, ponzu spicy rolls(yellowtail), dragon maki, and white tiger maki. I liked the dragon maki out of the three. It is a bit pricey. We couldn’t really understand our waiter because he mumbled most of the time.

On a whim, a friend and I popped in for dinner. Though billed as a sushi restaurant, I was surprised and excited to see there were Malaysian dishes on the menu. I should have known better but it had been a long while since I’d had mee goreng or roti canai. My friend ordered some rolls and sake which were a lot better than what I got. We shared an order of edamame and a tuna roll. Those were good but it’s hard to mess up steamed edamame and a simple roll. I expected my roti canai to be big, light, and chewy served with a delicious chicken and potato curry. What I got was a greasy, thick, cooked-from-frozen roti in an unusually sweet and un-curry like dipping sauce. There may have been a small piece of chicken and potato in there but definitely not what is expected of a good roti canai. The mee goreng is supposed to be a spicy seafood noodle dish with some sour notes. Ponzu’s mee goreng has potential to be good but it just falls short. The noodles were the yellow lo mein noodles served in Chinese fast food joints, the seafood was tasty but they threw in fake crab meat which was off putting, and the seasoning was off. It was a little spicy and much too sweet. It didn’t taste like ketchup but it didn’t taste great either. Overall, I was disappointed with my meal. Service was good and the food mediocre at best. The sushi options are limited and feature mostly rolls that are heavily fried or covered in sauces. Generally overpriced and the food quality was not up to snuff.

Most of the complaints I saw about Ponzu were regarding their customer service, and I have to say those were fair. Their service is pretty slow; they need one more server on their busy nights. However, the food is pretty great. The gyoza with balsamic glaze is amazing. My date ordered the General Gao’s Chicken, and I stole about half of his plate, it was so good. My one gripe is that the vegetables on many of the dinners are the frozen cubed carrots/peas/corn. Overall, a nice restaurant with some really interesting dishes. this review is based on a foodler order. i struggled with how to rate this place. i feel J would have said he loved it and for me it was just okay. we ordered on a tuesday night and the delivery was quick(showed up ahead of time) and the guy was very friendly & followed instructions(to call as the downstairs bell is broken). we spent $ 60 and each got three items. the portions seemed a bit small but i always think this about sushi and then end up completely stuffed and that was true for this order. still, i personally would have rather spent that money at a different establishment for a truly awesome sushi experience.(thelonious monkfish in central sq, for instance.) one thing that bugged me was that the ingredients listed on the foodler menu didn’t seem to quite jive with what we received. the tuna lover is listed as spicy and supposedly has both habanero sauce and wasabi tobiko. this roll was delicious but was not spicy at all. like… not in the least, never was. the goldfish roll is supposed to have eel & egg in the center but mine had eel and cucumber. the outside was to be wrapped in salmon & shrimp, but half of it was wrapped in avocado. the super white roll which was supposed to have avocado, only had it in half the pieces. when you order a certain thing… you kind of want it as advertised, and yet, they all tasted good or great so it wasn’t as big a deal, just seems kind of careless. the super white was described as being wrapped in radish. i imagined paper thin fresh radish slices, but what it actually is is a *lot* of thick slices(see photo) of something that to me tastes like the pink pickled ginger. i would order this again but probably peel off a layer or two as it was a bit much. the hurricane roll comes topped with«sweet and crispy taro strings» — you can see from the photo they basically filled the whole box with these things… which were hard, chewy, and flavorless. the roll underneath was good but those bits were just inedible. the sea urchin… ugh. this was my fault, though. i have no idea why i chose to try sea urchin for the first time from a delivery place with mixed reviews. i also have no idea why i ate the second piece after i didn’t like the first. maybe i just don’t like sea urchin, i don’t really know having nothing to compare it to. right now i’m wishing i hadn’t eaten it though, i’ll say that much. in the end i think if i had ordered the same rolls J did(tuna lover, spicy ponzu, and hurricane) this review would be much more positive. we’re only in waltham for a week but if we lived here i’d give them another shot.(ETA: just kidding, no i wouldn’t. it’s now midnight and while i didn’t feel so hot writing this review, i can now say for certain something there did not agree with me. not something i’d chance again esp for this kind of money.)

Another great spicy tuna roll dinner. Good ginger salad too with leafy greens not ice burg like normal. Tempura spicy tuna roll was really good but rich and a little overly deep fried. Service was a little slow today too which is not normal. Great prices!

This place is on the pricier side for a restaurant on Moody but they do serve some delicious dishes!!! I’d actually give this restaurant 3.5 stars if I could. The ambiance is not worth the price though. And their servers can be more friendly. However, as I mentioned previously, the food is pretty tasty. My personal favorites are the shumai skewers, spicy tuna roll, xmax maki, and the dragon roll. Stay away from the Malaysian noodles though… It was like noodles stir fried with ketchup.

We came here for dinner tonight and ordered a Caterpillar roll, a Soft Shell Crab maki roll, and a Celtic roll. Of the 3 rolls, we both liked the Caterpillar roll the best out of the 3. The Celtic roll was okay but the Soft Shell Crab maki was relatively tasteless in that we tasted more of the fried dough than the crab itself. Our hot green tea was served in metal cups and although the green tea itself was good, it was difficult to pick up the cups without burning our fingers. Our waitress seemed really impatient tonight.

I’m surprised to see this place doesn’t have a 4 – 5 star rating. I loved it! I had the curried dumplings soup, a caterpillar maki and a X’ mas maki. Everything was delicious and fresh. Also — I’m allergic to Wasabi, and for the first time at a sushi place, they actually listened and didn’t serve me Wasabi on my first visit! This is a big deal to me. My friend got an Indian style soup and Mee Goreng. She, too, was very pleased with her choices. Green tea was served in the cutest cast iron tea pot and kept our tea warm. I’m a fan and will definitely go back!

I’ve been here twice and both times were just… OK. The dishes here looks good, but they do not taste good. Well, I do have a favorite here. The glazed ponzu hot ribs in the appetizer/small plate section is frickin’ awesome. The Celtic roll I ordered was sitting in so much of that Ponzu sauce that it was falling apart on contact. On top of that, it didn’t taste very good. I had a few other dishes but I wasn’t really feeling it. Only reason I would even come back is if I want some of the ribs again.
