Synergy

I was a member of Synergy for a little over 6 months and I loved every minute of it. Keep in mind, this is NOT a gym. it’s a fitness studio. Meaning that you must schedule your workouts before attending. While I was there, I lost a total of around 16 lbs. Although it doesn’t seem like much, I noticed a HUGE difference in my body (inches wise). I could also jog for longer periods of time. I love the way the class is because they focus on you. My favorite trainer (and probably everyone’s) was Sean. He motivated me to keep pushing thru during my workout and he helped me accomplish things that I never thought possible. You can tell he knows what he’s doing and he genuinely cares about the clients and their progress. If a person is unable to do a certain exercise, he has them do something else that works the same part of the body. Cynthia was also amazing! I loved her energy. She started working there soon before I left so I only got a few workout sessions with her but she is amazing as well! Sadly, I had to end my membership because of personal and financial reasons. I wish I could still afford it. But I will say that in comparison to other personal training studio prices, you can’t go wrong with Synergy!

Joined one month ago because I liked the way I was treated when visiting to check it out. It is a specific model so if you join and expect to go use equipment at your leisure this is not for you. The model at Synergy, however works. It is by appt which is handled easily online with many options. There are also many different payment /​schedule plans and if you don’t see what you need, Brad will work with you. I think it is best described as interval training. I signed on for hour long, small group sessions — and have now been through 16 of them. They work. Trainers are good, they care, they provide nutritional support /​classes, and specific challenges so you can always measure progress. The system for this hour training alternates between 10 minute intense, trainer-​led excersies (weights, mats, etc) and then 10 minutes cardio where you choose your machine. This goes on for the entire hour and I promise you by the time you are done — you feel it. I am not a gym person. I hate the smell, the bad TV, the noise, but somehow, this works for me. I’ve also seen results and feel 10 times better than I did when I walked in a month ago. I have the numbers to back it up. I was also skeptical of group training (4 people per session), thinking that a one-​to-​one program would be better for me. Brad suggested I try the small group and it works just fine (to my surprise!). It is a small place, simple; no dressing rooms. Just a place to get yourself on track and maintain it. I read reviews… as far as calling and getting a machine… thank you Synergy for not employing a full-​time receptionist — that would only add to my cost. I have never not been called back same day. So… what are you waiting for?

I think the Syn club could be very beneficial for some. They work with the individual. Some people that go to syn are fairly new to working out while others are more seasoned. It can be difficult at times when there 4 people in one section at all different levels. They do a good job of trying to work with each person but it can be hard when it’s busy. I signed up for six months and did not to renew my membership. It’s hard because you must set up appointments in advance. These appointments may only be held during a certain period of time certain days of the week. Early morning workouts are booked solid so you need to set apts. up far in advance. You need to cancel your appointments 2 – 3 hours in advance. If you do not, you lose that appointment. The cons: It is fairly expensive, there are no showers, there are not many machines so sometimes you must go on one that you do not like. I must say to counter some other reviews that the place is extremely clean. The owners are very kind and they do work with you on an individual level. If this worked for me this review would have been 4 — 5 stars for sure.

I’ve been going to Syn for a couple of years now, which is more than I can say of any other gym or personal training studio that I’ve been to in the past. The staff at Syn know their stuff and keep it intense, customized for ability, and somehow fun at the same time. I’ve been able to stay in consistently good shape for those past few years — which is better than I’ve ever done before.
Speaking as a busy, middle aged guy with a lot going on, for me the key is being able to sustain habits. The owners and staff at Syn know the recipe for making something that, for me, is not a whole lot of fun, into something that I can look forward to and sustain.
This place is just a storefront gym, but if want personalized attention for a more than fair price, and more importantly, if you’re serious about getting and sustaining results, this is the place for you.

I must be the odd man out. After reading all these reviews you would think this place is amazing. I am pretty sure the owners ask clients to write good reviews on their behalf. ($ 20 bucks the owner makes some comment below my review)
Last summer, I joined SynClub for 3 months… I did not enjoy my experience at Syn Club. My review excludes Jackie (the best trainer there). If Jackie was there full time I wouldn’t have left.
I did not drop a single pound when I was a member. For whatever reason their method did not work for me… I was annoyed that they assumed all their clients sat around all day and ate McDonald’s and large Coke (haven’t touched either since I was a kid). I found it insulting. Check out their Facebook page and you will see what I mean. I did not enjoy such questions as «what did you eat for lunch?» «how come you didn’t come in yesterday?». I did not join to be babysat. It is not motivating for me.
The biggest drawback is that you are paying a crazy amount of money and you do not have the freedom to work out at the gym whenever you want since it’s appointment based. I can’t recall how much it was but it was mid $ 200’s per month. I felt like I was mislead when I signed up, I was told that the trainer creates a custom work out for me. Not really custom at all, every week it alternated between 9 minutes on cardio and 9 minutes on weights for an hour, and then the next week 14 minutes on cardio/​14 on weights.
Also, all these people claiming this place is «clean» must have dirty houses. The floors need a deep cleaning! Yuck!
I will stick to my chain gym where I can come & go as I please!

I became a member of Syn club today. I have a specific fitness goal in mind that (despite trying hard) I have not been able to achieve by myself for the past 2 years. Let’s see if Syn club can get me there in my time frame of 2 months.
I have not started working out at Syn club yet but the registration experience was great! Brad (the guy who went through the process of registration with me today) was very knowledgable and enthusiastic! The space is small but it is clean and nice.
One thing that I liked about Syn club is that you don’t have to commit to year long memberships, you can do one month at a time. The membership is not cheap and depending on the length of your commitment goes from something around 200 to 270 per month for 12 one-​hour sessions.
I will come back again in two months, after my 24^th session, to let you know about actual experience with the training!

SynClub has been a huge positive force for me and my personal exercise routine. I’ve been a member of Syn now for a couple of years, and should’ve gotten around to writing this awhile ago! I’m the type of guy who doesn’t «do» gyms, isn’t naturally athletic, and doesn’t really have the internal motivation to keep at a workout routine. Syn has been great for me because:
1. There is accountability for me to show up to the appointments I make, and, even though it’s tough to get out of bed, I know that the trainers will be checking in if I don’t show up (plus I always feel great after the workout!).
2. I get pretty personalized training, even though there is one trainer to about 3 others during the same workout time. If I want to work on muscle building as opposed to weight loss, they will help me do that.
3. The other members are a mix of folks who are there to do the same thing I am doing – feel better about their bodies and get in better shape. There is no feeling of competition among members or people «showing off» what they can do like you might find at the mega gyms.
4. Syn trainers help not only with the workout routine, but ask questions about our eating choices and course-​correct in a polite, supportive way.
5. The trainers keep things changing every week, so you never get bored of a standard routine after a few weeks. This is also great because it gives me a broader repertoire of exercises that I can use – especially when I’m away from home and traveling for work but still need to workout.
Since I joined Syn, I’ve been able to keep my waist size down to what I want it to be, I feel much better about my energy level, and because I put in a lot of work at Syn, I feel compelled to make the right food choices during the day. For those who think it’s too expensive, think again. There’s no way I could get the personalized training that I do at Syn for what I pay per month. Plus, for me, paying for a premium service helps to keep me motivated to get the most out of that service.

I joined Syn Club after taking a one-​year hiatus from exercise and healthy eating. My weight had ballooned and I was really noticing the negative impact on my overall health and well-​being. I am excited to report that in just the first 3 months I have lost 15 pounds and I am down two sizes. I also feel much better physically, I have more energy and I sleep better.
The format of the training is much more effective than personal training I’ve received in the past. The equal parts of cardio and strength training definitely make a difference (versus typical training sessions that focus on strength training with only a short cardio warm-​up). I also appreciate that the routines change weekly — it helps to mix it up and keeps things interesting. And I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Syn Club! They work hard to keep you motivated, make you feel very comfortable, and even provide some comic relief during your sessions. But more importantly, they really care about their clients and want to see them succeed.
If you have trouble staying motivated and are looking for an effective (and affordable!) training program, look no further than Syn Club in Waltham!

I’ve been going to Syn for about 3 months now and just signed up for another 3. The owners are great — they listen to your feedback and try to make things better whenever possible. Ex/​the closed captioning on one of the TVs wasn’t working, which made me never want to get stuck with that machine. The owner spent all afternoon (according to him!) trying to fix it and now it works. This sounds like a small thing but it made a big difference considering the TV is the only thing that gets me through workouts. The trainers are also great, combining knowledge with kindness and great senses of humor to help you through the workout. Another plus, you book your appointments online so can literally wait until that day/​afternoon to decide when you want to go in. I’ve been losing weight, SLOWLY, but according to everyone that is the «healthy» way to do it so I’m happy.

Syn is a great place to work out. The trainers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic and they challenge me in every session. Working with a trainer every time has really helped me get into shape since they are right there to correct your form or encourage you to get through the reps. Every week is a different workout so I never get bored.
The facility is always clean and the other clients are fun to work out with. There’s no way I could afford a personal trainer 3x a week like I get at Syn. I do my ½ hour with the trainer and ½ hour of cardio and then I’m done for the day, it’s great to have a quick, effective workout.

Now that I’ve been a member for a year, feels like time for an update.
When I joined SYN, I was planning to stay for a few months, learn some tricks and head to a less-​expensive gym. But now, I can’t imagine switching. I’ve lost another 10lbs/​1 size since my first review, and my doctors are astonished with how much better my health is. Everyone who works there is super-​supportive & friendly, and they know how to push you to work hard without making you uncomfortable.
On the whole, it’s the best bang for your buck. Do it — you won’t regret it.

Because I was getting married in September, I called Syn in May, went in with a friend for a complimentary session and discussion about their methods etc and signed up the next week.
I’ve been going 3 times a week ever since and it’s been wonderful. When I started my wedding dress fittings, I knew if I lost just a little weight I’d look and feel a lot better. After going to Syn consistently, at my last dress fitting I was told not to lose any more weight or the dress would fall off on my way up the aisle: o) I think Syn was effective!
I’m one of those people who would go to the free gym at my work, but not know what to do once I got there. It was a waste of my time and it was frustrating to get up early, go to the gym and have no idea how to make the most of my time there.
Signing up for Syn meant that every time I walked in the door of the gym, there was a trainer who knew me and where I was so far as ability level to help push me and make the time I was spending in the gym meaningful. I feel like the guidance and ever-​changing workouts have made a huge difference in not only how my body looks and feels but also things like my energy and confidence levels.
The facility is great, the trainers are wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable and I leave knowing that the time I spent there was actually useful. For me, that makes Syn well worth the price per month.

I’d love to tell you what Syn’s got to offer, but every time I’ve called them, I get a machine, leave a message inquiring on price and hours, and never get a call back.
This tells me you don’t want my business despite having called you at least 3 or 4 times in the past.

I signed up this spring for 5, 1-​on-​1 personal training sessions and 2 months of group sessions. Unfortunately, they had trouble finding time to schedule my personal training and finding a location. I never even used my group sessions because they expired by the time I finished my 1-on-1’s.
Once I finally had a session I felt that it really wasn’t tailored to me. I was asked the same questions I had been asked when I signed up and did my assessment. I also got a different trainer after the fist session and they weren’t even told my background which was very annoying since I had specific health problems.
The trainers weren’t very motivating, positive or energetic. If you’re looking for the whole personal training experience I would save your money and look somewhere else.

Pricier than a regular gym, but this one’s a gem. You schedule 3 appointments a week and work out with a personal trainer. Yes, that’s right, if you go 3x a week like all good like gym-​goers should, you get a personal trainer for $ 10 a session. Frequently I have a trainer to myself, but the max amount of people is 3 per trainer — and that works out really well too. It’s a pretty sweet deal and cheaper than my yoga class. I like this place a lot, it’s small, clean, professional, and I’m encouraged to work-​out a lot harder than I would if I was working out myself. They change the work-​outs a lot, so you never get bored. Plus, since your heart rate is up from the fast weights, you only have to do ~20 mins of cardio. Cardio machines each have their own little TV which is handy, (America’s next top model is ALWAYS on) and you can schedule appointments online. I move mine around a lot due to work schedules, and it’s not been a problem. All in all, great place with great trainers.
