Just got take-out from here for the first time today on the recommendation from a co-worker. I ordered the Hunan Chicken lunch special and it was absolutely delicious. On top of that the portion size was more than adequate. We are talking an 8−10″ wide 3−4″ high dish filled to the brim… for only $ 6. It’s only about a 7 minute drive from Daniel Island and was ready when I got there. This will certainly be a weekly run from now on.

I hate to give it a 2 because the food was good. However, the restaurant was a little dirty, the tables weren’t wiped down well and you could smell old seafood. I liked the food but was a little turned off by the cleanliness. I would suggest take out.

Best Chinese food I’ve had in charleston I’m originally from California and it reminds me of the Chinese I get back home :)

The good: The location and food. Located on Clements Ferry Road, it gives me an option for lunch/dinner without having to get on a highway or going to DI or MT. P. The food is also above average for your typical Chinese take-out spot. I’m a big fan of General Tso’s chicken, lo mien and egg rolls, and Tokyo Express does it very well. Have also had their chicken wings, which were surprising good. The bad: Cleanliness and changing prices. I’ve only gotten take-out but the waiting area(which includes the drink station) could use a bit more upkeep. Dirty floors and unstocked condiments should be an easy fix. Also, maybe it’s just me but it seems like they change their prices often and it never matches their menu cost. Nothing major, but just find it odd.

The chicken hibachi is good for a quick, inexpensive lunch. Do NOT get the steak. It’s terrible, mystery meat.

For a cheap, quick lunch over by Daniel island, you cannot beat Tokyo Express. I LOVE coming here. Sure, the inside is a little shabby and there is limited seating. They also have a GIANT menu with no descriptions. But, they make up for it with cheap, quick lunches and white sauce by the squeeze bottle(a nice touch, not having to pay for extras…) While I don’t love the shrimp(Hello…we live in Charleston, I like fresh shrimp) I do enjoy the Hibachi Chicken with white rice. Their egg drop soup is a little lacking, but I promise you, you won’t regret eating here. It is definitely a regular stop of ours when we are out and about on the weekends. They offer both Japanese and Chinese dishes, as well as a few American meals(chicken fingers come to mind). Yum!

Consistently spot on, in a pinch… huge portions to go… friendly and always ready quick… Just good everyday Chinese… The food is well worth the money not gourmet, but good and plenty to have leftovers for work the next day… I like spice… and have it kicked up… like my veggies still a bit crisp … a good portion of veggies to meat… consistent. Sometimes they get a wee heavy on saucing so I ask them to not let my meal swim in sauce. Have never sat there an ate… just pick up … they stack it and pack it awesomely…

Can’t really complain much about a $ 6 meal in Charleston if it fills you up and comes with good sweat tea, especially if it tastes good.

Did take out for lunch. I had General Tso chicken and my wife had a noodle dish with chicken and shrimp and a light flavoring of curry. Hers was very good(we shared) but my General Tso’s was mushy — both the rice and the chicken. The pricing was inexpensive and it was prepared quickly. They had some tables there but best for lunch or to take out it seemed. We’d try it again and keep our fingers crossed.

7÷17÷2012 — I found out that there was a typo on the menu and white rice does NOT come with the Moo shu chicken. So, the order accuracy is actually a lot better than a 2. So, I would give this place a 4.5 stars out of 5, but Unilocal doesn’t let you give a ½ star. The staff is very friendly and we have not ordered from another Chinese restaurant in Charleston since Tokyo Express opened.

Sesame chicken here was downright amazing to me. The fried rice wasn’t to die for, but the sesame chicken more than made up for it. I each lunch here regularly now, and its a bargain at 5.25 for a lunch special which includes the drink. This should go without saying, but don’t expect any fancy décor here, it’s your typical Chinese takeout place in that regard.
