Interesting idea to stick a bar in the back of a wine/beer store. We came in on a Saturday at 7pm… keep in mind they close at 8pm. There was no one else around but the selection of beer was great and the bartender was really friendly. Great place to try something new and then pick up some to go.

I like Champane’s Pub. It’s nice to be able to stop for a beer before or after we shop. The prices are reasonable for some and really expensive for others. This wasn’t the case when they first opened. I’m not sure who will pay $ 12 for a pint of GLBC’s Christmas Ale. They also offer ½ pints if you don’t want to commit to a whole pint of something new. It’s kind of strange with bright lights and off to the side of the warehouse. As Ashley mentioned, beer is poured in pint glasses only. The beers on tap are usually impressive. For their grand opening, they had Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA, Bourbon County, and a Kuhnhenn Crème Brule Java firkin. I was happy to see that they didn’t run out when we arrived just before last call. That is another bonus. It’s not your typical pub or craft beer bar. They don’t get that big of a crowd, so there’s a good opportunity to enjoy their special taps. They also offer some bottled beer and wine. It’s a bummer that they’re only open for the operating hours of the store. Last call is 30 minutes before closing. Hopefully they continue to be successful with the pub and expand!

Went to the«Grand Opening Day 1» for Champane’s Pub located within Champane’s Wine Cellar/Beer Store.(I think they sell liquor too in the store) If you are familiar with the place, it is beyond the cash registers for the store. The«bar» is actually from an old bar in Hamtramck MI, complete with the coolers behind the bar — all wooden. Also has a U shaped«peninsula» off the front which makes it good for chatting across the bar to other patrons. They had an impressive tap list where you could get pint or half pints of most, but some were special pours only available in ½ pints. The prices were a little high, but they had some real quality beer on tap! I had a Sam Adams Merry Maker Stout that is only made around the holiday’s and only on draft. Dang, wish they would bottle it, reminded me of a Sierra Nevada Christmas Ale brewed as a stout, yum! I also had«The Curl» beer from Short’s in Bellaire MI a craft brewery, it was more of an IPA and very good. The featured beer of the night was a Goose Island Bourbon County Stout that is Oak Barrel Aged, kind of like Founder’s KBS(KY Bourbon Stout) So I hear the taps change a lot and prices vary according to ABV, etc. The«bar» area is off to the side in a sort of open area. They need to adjust the lighting over that area, it was very bright, not really«pub» atmosphere but it works for now. I would almost build a wall to section it off from the store & registers, then put a little more heat in that part, it was chilly. They do not serve much for food, only snacks like chips etc., subs are no longer available however you can bring in your own carry out food or order delivery from a few places in the area which they have menus for, that’s cool! Despite these little items, it was a great night there! I will go back and enjoy sipping on some fine craft beer again some time soon!

What a cool concept… shop for beer and wine, and stop to drink some beer and wine in the store. Up to 24 taps at a time serving pints and half pints with plans to fill growlers soon. They use generic pint glasses for every beer, so don’t expect appropriate glassware with your beers, but prices are VERY reasonable and snacks are available. Closes at 8pm with the store, which is kind of a bummer. A good place to have a beer or two with friends without being drowned out by loud music. And they have a TV to watch the game.
