So, my memory tour of the Midwest begins here. Why? Because there was no Unilocal page for this café, and there really needed to be. For those two of you who follow my reviews(thanks, by the way!), you may have noticed that thus far in my reviewing career I have only reviewed tearooms and vegetarian restaurants. The reason for this being that I feel I can only write well when I care, and I can’t seem to make myself care very much when tea or veggies aren’t involved. Well, that changes here and now. Over the course of 5 days spent in Michigan I, along with 4 guy friends of mine, managed to have breakfast here 3 times. Well, I say breakfast. The truth was, we usually weren’t awake until around noon so by the time we made it here the day had pretty much succumbed to lunch time. In fact, on one occasion, we unwittingly made it in just as they were closing(early on New Year’s Eve)… and no mention was made of it. No dirty looks. No «hurry it up“s. The check wasn’t even rushed. When we realized what we had done, of course, we made our embarrassed apologies, but the server would have none of it. She waved it off with a quip, «Just lift your feet when we come around to vacuum». I am always a sucker for humor and patience, so she won me over completely with that. Regarding the food, being the unfortunate vegetarian that I am, my breakfast each time was restricted to tea with hash browns or oatmeal. To that end, at least, I can say that the hash browns may very well have been the best I’ve had in this coffee shop kind of setting, and the oatmeal came with all the extra things that can help to make oatmeal a little more exciting. As for the tea? Well, it’s going to be hard to impress me with tea at this point. Having said that, even bagged lipton with a little milk and sugar can put a genuine smile on my face. I had nothing to complain about. The boys ordered omelets and croissant sandwiches a plenty. Their plates were always clean at the end of the meal, and they always had words of approval on their tongues. Like I said, we did fit in 3 trips to this place. When I make it back to Michigan(and I WILL make it back), this restaurant will definitely be paid a visit.
