Waited 20 mins for a chicken salad, got back to work and discovered the chicken was completely raw. Manager said they cooked it for the 15 mins they were supposed to but NEVER actually checked the chicken itself. Disgraceful customer service and obviously a dangerous place to eat. Never again.

I stopped by this place and probably will not be coming back tables where not clean several employees there standing around doing nothing or on there cellphone. I ordered one hotdog and a drink just to try it. Paid 6.13 cent for a small hotdog with sauerkraut and it was on regular cheap bun no gourmet anything drink was 1.99 half the size you get other places for cheaper. Would have been better off going to Costco getting a 1.50 large hotdog with drink which is better quality only difference you don’t get thousand island dressing on it. Only one other customer then me when I was there and 6 employees maybe that explain it all I left still feeling hungry

Now that I’ve went back a couple thousand times I’ll update my review. Traverse city dog is still my favorite. If youre not into the sweet thing try the mushroom swiss, it’s very yummy too. I’ve tried a couple sides and soups and wasn’t overly impressed. However someone just mentioned secret fry sauce in another review so of course I have to try that next time I’m there. Thanks buddy. Btw my dog still pouts cause I eat it all and won’t share

My favorite Chicago dog outside of Chicago! Zack’s is not Portillo’s, but an excellent option here in Detroit. The best kept secret is the fry sauce. Trust me… ask for it and you’ll never go back to ketchup on your fries again! Zack’s is the best!

Very solid dogs. I had the Chicago and southern classics. Both were tasty. Chicago presented great. Coleslaw was fresh. Dogs had good bite, and the bun was soft but held up. I didn’t try any sides. I was the only customer at like 545 on a tuesday. Service was ok, but nothing special. I would go back and try more items.

A great find for those who love Hot Dogs with so many different choices! We tried a Chicago, Flint style coney, & sausage and all were outstanding. Then we tried cheese burger and it was awesome! Prices very good & highly recommend for anyone that is looking for a great dog or burger. Only problem is there are so many great choices to choose from! Will be back soon. Rick W.

A coworker of mine suggested this place the other day, said they had good hot dogs and good prices. So, a group of us gather in a vehicle and head to Zack’s. Let me tell you, if you like a place that is out of main ingredients and specializes in the slowest of service, this place is it. I go to order a pulled pork sandwich and… they are out of pulled pork. At 12:30 during lunch time on a week day. That bummed me out, but I got over it and ordered the Cajun chicken wrap — and they were out of the Cajun sauce too. The employee working the register yelled to some guy behind her about whether he could ‘make’ Cajun sauce at the moment, and he said OK. So, what happens? My coworker and I(who ordered the same thing) end up waiting a solid 15 minutes for some half-assed wrap that barely fulfilled my appetite. It was pretty disappointing overall. Nothing special here, just a twist on what people like. It doesn’t help when you are missing half the ingredients at prime lunch hours. This place is probably a one-and-done in my eating repertoire.

Great sides for hot dogs if you want them for parties and amazing Mac and cheese! They accidentally only made 1 tray of Mac and cheese when we wanted 2. The owner made 2 fresh trays of Mac and cheese and even delivered them himself to our house! It was about 30 mins away and still warm when it got here. Great service!

This place is awesome! It looks and feels like the owner/manager/staff care about this place. The hot dogs were amazing and the variety is incredible. The only critique would be the speed, a little slow, but not slow enough to knock off a star. Highly recommend!

Best Philly in the immediate area. If the owner is there(Dark hair guy) The place is great. If he’s NOT, its basically staffed by guys on parole. As someone with their own business, I feel really bad for this owner. He’s got a good product, not much competition, a ton of traffic. Unfortunately, not being able to get basic customer service out of the employee’s is going to put him out of business. We pretty much only do carry out now, because its one of the only options on Dequindre. Luckily, there’s new strip malls going up, so that will change shortly.

Stopped in for a carry-out lunch. I received a blank stare from the cashier from when I walked in until I asked for a burger. The ONLY words he said were my total — and when I asked for a drink, he just pressed the button and charged my card. Didn’t even say the updated total. He promptly returned to his phone right after. The cook who gave me my order was only slightly more personable. He mumbled«Have a nice day» and that was it. The burger was decent, but the service won’t have me coming back any time soon. Maybe when I see the sign-spinner out front on Dequindre with a sign that says«We fired everyone!» I’ll come back. This was my 2nd time here. The first time was last summer and I received similar service. I stopped in today hoping things may have changed. I guess not.

I’ve been to Zacks once but never ate there. How is this possible you may ask? Well this last Sunday I was REFUSED service. After checking out the menu for a few minutes and getting my mouth properly watered I went to the counter to order. No hello, no be right with you, not even any eye contact. But I’m a patient man and waited about 5 minutes before asking, «Is this where we order?» The guy responded«yeah but we just got this big $ 200 order and it’s just the three of us.» And than he went back to cooking. I stood there for a minute and turned to walk out. Ooookay than? Basically I was told to piss off as they had no time for my much smaller order. Needless to say never again. In fact I’ll be telling every person I encounter that this is the worst possible place to eat. No thanks.

Good food, 1 tip… They should make their own v corn, they’re already there, they just need to add a stick to their plain coated fried dogs. Those pre made things they serve are horrible. The pricing isn’t too bad and they even have malt vinegar.

I finally stopped in the other day for a carry out. It was lunch time.1pm and the place was a ghost town. Not good in my book. I ordered the pulled pork sub to go, and asked them to add coleslaw to it.(They should automatically serve it with something I think). It was like $ 6.00 or so. While I was waiting I was a little frustrated to see the cashier go into the main dining room; not to clean or replenish supplies, but to turn the TV way up and sit down facing AWAY from the door to watch sports. Really??? You have NO customers as it is… maybe this part of the reason? So, I got the sandwich home and honestly wasn’t expecting much. To my surprise, the sandwich was GOOD! The bun was soft, and the pork was tender with a nice bbq sauce, and the slaw was delicious on top of it. So, the food isn’t the problem… but IDK, it seems empty an awful lot. /Potential!

I will rave about the Cuban Dog here, as well as the fries and onion rings. The HUGE orders of fries/onion rings are awesome, however they are inconsistent. Sometimes they are cooked crispy, sometimes they are oily and soggy and kind of gross. It really seems to depend on whoever is cooking that day. The dogs are inconsistent as well. I give Zack’s high marks for having such a stunning array of varietal hot dogs. But sometimes they are pretty good and sometimes, not so much. Once again, seems to depend on whoever is cooking. And their«not hot dogs or sides» items on the menu(burgers, salads, etc) are nothing to write home about(from what I have tried). Hippo Dogs is only a few miles away in Troy and it is worth the drive every time to eat there instead. That being said, I still do frequent Zack’s from time to time… it is closer to my workplace, and they make a mean Cuban Dog. And sometimes the sides are crisped to perfection.

Based on my first(only) visit to Zack’s, this place is along the lines of 3 stars; however, it has great potential of moving up in the ranks. I ordered the Chicago, Detroit Coney, and Traverse City dogs. I like to do a weighted comparison with 50% allocated to the Chicago dog. To me, the Chicago dog is my standard and if you have a pretty good one, you’re going to fair well. Zack’s nails it. Even down to the Vienna Beef brand of hot dog. Maybe it’s because I grew up in Chicago but Vienna Beef is a favorite. Moving on… Detroit Coney nothing spectacular. Coney sauce sub par, I could find the exact flavors in a frozen grocery store coney sauce. And the texture– we won’t even get into. Think something gross and you’re probably about there.Boo. If you’re going to serve a Detroit dog in Detroit… get your sauce together folks. Traverse City, meh. Battered(more like if batter and crumbs had a baby) deep fried dog. Topped with slaw and cherry bbq glaze. Liked the deep fry texture(not like a east coast ripper, but interesting). The taste of the overall dog however, is redundant. Sweet with sweet. Slaw is good but bbq glaze might be better if it was savory with spice. Now lets get to the best part(besides Vienna Beef… mmmm): the BUN. Amazing. It’s baked from Knickerbocker in Madison Heights and it is by far the best hot dog bun ever. Not too light not too heavy, perfect chew, nicely steamed. Yes yes I know you probably think I have an hd bun fetish, if youve read my other reviews. But with all things, you need to have a good foundation. This foundation could carry a metropolis. Wanted the corn dog, but they don’t make them in house(i.e. store bought).

Zack’s is «Good food for what it is». Hot dog nachos, yes… hot dogs on nachos. Crisp round corn tortilla chips covered with a decent chili, layered with nacho cheese and topped with not so spicy pickled jalapenos. I suggest asking for it in a to go container, they’re huge! The Chicago dog was made perfectly. The guy that made it was very proud, he almost didn’t wanna let go. Soft steamed poppy seed bun, crisp doggie, complimented by just right amount of every ingredient. The french fries weren’t anything fancy, and I couldn’t stomach covering anything else with cheese & chili. The guys rockin’ the flat top know what they’re doing. An affordable almost soulful place for lunch if you don’t mind your fingers being covered in nacho cheese and smell like neon green pickle relish.

I can’t wait to go back! An enormous menu of hot dogs! I ended up just getting a corn dog, and my boyfriend had the bacon and cheddar dog. Both of us ate for $ 9! We learned one key fact for next time, and that is SHARE the fries! We each got our own, only to find out that a side of fries is a huge basket that one person can’t eat by themselves. Our food was spectacular, and the price was unbeatable. I plan to go back over and over again!

Hubby and I stopped there for an impromptu lunch. I had a Chicago dog and a New York Dog. Hubby had a pizza dog and a chicken fried hot dog. We split some fries. The hot dogs were quite good, although I would have preferred a Kosher option. No, I’m not Jewish. I just don’t like pondering all of the weird cow bits that go into a non-Kosher hot dog. Also, the hot hog buns were lame. The buns are essentially the cheapest, whitest, marshmallowy-est buns that you can buy in the grocery store. They really don’t hold up well to a lot of the toppings, and I had to resort to a knife and fork because the bun pretty much disintegrated. A more substantial bun would have been appreciated. The NY Dog was delish, and was made even better by adding peppers from the little«topping bar» next to the pop machine. The chicken fried hot dog was pretty good too — battered, fried, and covered in white southern gravy. The other dogs were serviceable. The star of the show, IMHO, was the french fries. You get a MASSIVE order for $ 2.55. And I think they’re double fried, because they are awesomely crispy and crunchy and delicious.
