This review is for the bar side, not the restaurant side. Upscale look and vibe. Pricey even during Happy Hour 5 – 7. Great selections of wine, beer and cocktails. Excellent food and service. Caveat. Go early or go home for Happy Hour. Goes from relatively empty at 4:45 to out the door by 5:05 — 7:00. Informal line for open tables leads to disgruntled patrons. Beware

Fresh fish been here a few times and it is always good. Vera Cruz and Blackened you canot go wrong. Salmon, Bass are my favorites so far. My friends had oysters from different parts of the country and they were pleased. Desert should not be missed either. DIGIN!

This place is not only off the hook but it’s off the chain!!! Was treated here for belated birthday and was thrilled! FYI: Upscale, if you’re grunge this place is not for you. Atmosphere: 1. Upscale Service: 1. Topnotch Food: 1. Thumbs up to the oyster shooters! 2. The cheese plate was posh and delish. 3. The Blue Point oysters from Long Island were so sweet, juicy and succulent that they only compare to our James River oysters here in VA. I couldn’t stop eating them. 4. Mussels, yum! 5. Chilean Sea Bass, tasty. 6. Jerk Wings, had better :( Value: 1. Pricey! 2. Go during Happy Hour as we did to get ½ off cocktails and bar menu, otherwise bring plenty of moolah. 3. Get there early for Happy Hour as you will be turned away. I witnessed those sad. bitter victims!

This place is wonderful! Started off with an eggnog martini which was very good. Next up was an appetizer special which consisted of a crab cake(with actual crab and not all that filler stuff), 2 cajun shrimp and a skewer of various fish. No problem there(except for the salmon, but only because that’s the one fish I have never cared for anyway). I had the swordfish special which had some type of maple syrup glaze with bacon pieces, sitting atop thinly sliced brussel sprouts. My husband said it looked like it was cut like a slice of cheesecake. This meal was to die for. You couldn’t even tell it was maple syrup with the other seasoning. My husband had the scallops. While he didn’t care for them(don’t know why he even got them to begin with since he has never been particularly fond of them!), I thought they were delicious. Alot of places over cook them and they are tough. Not these! For dessert we had the Confectionary sampler(crème brûlée, carrot cake, some type of mousse w/a fancy cookie covered in chocolate, and what they called a chocolate latte). All were fabulous. The latte is in this tiny mug with a brownie type cake topped with cream for all your chocolate lovers.

Excellent food. Great service. The owner stopped by to speak which was a nice touch. We tried about 8 different types of raw oysters which was fun. Everything was FRESH! Clam chowder and crab claws were excellent. Good drinks too. Almond cheesecake was decent. First time there and now one of my top favorite restaurants. I live be back without question.

The seafood scene in Pittsburgh is seriously lacking as a whole from my experience. We’ve had Off The Hook on our bucket list for quite some time, and what better occasion than my father’s birthday. We made reservations about 1.5 weeks in advance for a party of 8 on a Saturday night. The host staff, waitstaff, management and bus boys were all super accommodating and even allowed us to bring in our own birthday cake. The pacing of all the courses was perfect and they didn’t rush us out the door. Wine is pricey but they have a Sommelier on staff so that is to be expected. And they don’t seem to excel in cocktails — both what’s included on the cocktail list and based on the old fashioned I had. However, I was pleased with the beer lost and prices, with an emphasis on Dogfish Head. First time here we went all out and tried a little bit of everything: oysters, apps, soup/salad, entrees and sides. The oysters were delicious but come in around $ 3 a pop. You absolutely have to try the«hog wash» sauce as it was absolutely perfect. Everyone at the table was raving about their individual entrees including some of the specials. They were unfortunately out of Redfish which several of us were hoping to have. For sides we loved them all, crab Mac n cheese was rich and delicious, asparagus were huge and perfectly charred, and the rice must’ve been boiled with coconut water and was fantastic. Unless you’re a high roller this isn’t an every month occasion due to the price, but I highly recommend it for that special night out to celebrate. We’ll definitely be back.

I stopped here after a meeting with clients in Warrendale and met with a co-worker to debrief over beers after the meeting. Upon entering I was a bit afraid this was going to be a Bonefish Grill knockoff. I was very wrong. This was really a top notch seafood restaurant. We got a few appetizers off the menu, and was thoroughly impressed with each. First off we got the Lobster Nachos. There was AMPLE lobster on these. I’m not talking fake lobster. I’m not talking langostino. These nachos had big chunks of lobsters. You could make out claw and tail meat chunks. Also, the nachos were backed with shredded cheese as opposed to a cheese sauce leaving the chips crispy. Also, another nice touch was the nachos were layered so you didn’t wind up with a pile of plain chips at the bottom. One warning was they were a bit salty. I admit that I loved the saltiness, but for those who don’t it may have been too much. Next I got the Slider Combo. This was 3 perfectly sized selection, each amazing. The first was a Wagyu beef slider with just a tomato slice and some lettuce. The beef was very well seasoned(which is not always a gimme), and cooked to a medium/medium well which is the norm for a Wagyu burger. It was absolutely delicious. Next was a crab cake slider with a little bernaise. This was a broiled, not fried cake, which makes a huge difference. Also, this was huge chunks of crab with very little;e bread or filler. You could really taste the crab here. Last was a perfect New England style lobster roll, just smaller. The bun was toasted with garlic butter and the lobster salad was not overwhelmed with mayo to hide sub-par lobster. This was the star of the plate. I enjoyed it so much I got one to go as well. The service was also an A+. We sat at the bar, so I’ll evaluate that area, but our tender was helpful with the menu, checked on us frequently, but not to an annoying point, and was extremely pleasant to talk to. Note, they have a raw bar and oyster specials. Amanda M… I’m looking at you

The food was quite good, but I did not feel as though the ambience and service justified the price. The main dining room is lit quite brightly and does not allow for an intimate dining experience. While our waiter was very efficient, he seemed harried; almost as though they were under staffed — we were eating at 9:00 so the restaurant was clearing out at that point. There were a few little things that bothered us. For one, the two of us were seated at a table set for four. Rather than clear the extra place settings, our wine menu was laid on top of them. I actually had to ask the waiter to clear them. Also, our wine was not served with our entrée but about 10 minutes later. Again, these are just little annoyances, but at this price point I would expect a higher level of service.

I have been meaning to review Off The Hook for a long time. I love this place! I have to admit I was a little skeptical the first time I went because it looks like it’s in a strip mall. Don’t be fooled! It has the best happy hour around… a good selection of incredibly well prepared seafood at very good prices. The sliders are delicious! Plus, I really prefer the bar area over the main dining room. They also have a lovely patio area now that will also be great in the cooler months as they have heaters and fireplaces. It is always very popular during happy hour so you have to get there early to get a table or seat at the bar. The addition of the patio probably helps alleviate the congestion. I have also tried several things on the regular menu and they never disappoint. I had the Chilean sea bass the last time I was there and it was cooked perfectly. The tuna poke is out of this world. We tried the lobster nachos the last time we were there and they were just so-so(not a lot of lobster to be found which made them more like typical nachos). Perhaps they just weren’t a good fit for my palette as I prefer unadulterated seafood. The menu is extensive so you are sure to find something that interests you. The carrot cake is a MUST! It really is the best I have ever had. Save some room and give it a try!

I went to Off The Hook a couple of months ago at the suggestion of a friend. Wow! What a great meal. Great oyster selection, great wine selection and the Tuna was amazing. I am in town and hope to go there again tomorrow night. Great restaurant and worth the expense.

Off the Hook is literally«off the hook». I recommend calling ahead of time & getting reservations. Every time I go here I get the exact same thing, Rodeo Salmon. It is spot on every single time! The coconut jasmine rice for a side dish is my ultimate fav, I suggest you try it as well as the asparagus… amazing. The owner is always incognito but always present in the restaurant. She comes by each table asking how everything is, I love that. It’s cool to see her there and involved in her business. The wait staff is excellent and extremely knowledgable of the menu. They memorize all the specials and explain what everything is. Your water glass will never be left empty, as they have about 5 people walking around making sure everyone has water. I always leave satisfied. I love this place, and definitely go there as often as possible!

My family dined here for my mom’s 60th birthday dinner this past Saturday night. While this would not have been my personal choice(I pushed for Casbah), my mom has really enjoyed every meal she has had here and since it was her special day, I was happy to make the reservations. We had 7pm reservations and were seated right away. We were greeted quickly by Jessica who served us with friendly and efficient service throughout our meal despite admittedly being«in the weeds». Both my mother and I had wine(Riesling for her and chardonnay for myself-both priced around $ 11 which is standard) while my brother and dad stuck with water. My mom has a shellfish allergy so there were many things I would have liked to have tried as sides(lobster mac and cheese and lobster mashed potatoes) but, since they are family style, we went with chargrilled asparagus. They were ok-not really seasoned or anything and rather plain. There were several specials that evening and my mom, brother, and myself all went with specials while my dad enjoyed Red Fish(although I forget how it was prepared) and a cup of clam chowder. I chose the softshell crab special which came with three healthy sized crabs. I was slightly disappointed in my choice and I think on my next visit I will try the crab cakes which seem to have gotten rave reviews. The softshell crabs were served almondine style. They didn’t have as much flavor as I would have liked and they were, in my opinion, bland. I am still searching for a softshell crab entrée to match the sandwich I had last year at The Smith in NYC which was light on the breading and melt in your mouth. This entrée was very heavy on the breading and greasier than I would have liked. My brother chose the walleye special which was served with pierogies, carrots, and topped with onion rings. He said it was delicious and I can vouch that the onion rings were quite tasty! My mom went with the halibut special with ramps and fiddle head ferns in a pesto sauce. I didn’t try any of her meal but she said it was the best halibut she has had in quite some time and would have loved the chef to give away the recipe! Since it was her birthday, my mom got free dessert. She chose the chocolate flourless cake and had it packed to go since we had a Bruster’s ice cream pie waiting at home for us. Jessica was so sweet in that she brought it out in the to-go container with a candle, although(thank goodness!), there was no singing! Our meal came to $ 195 so obviously this type of meal is not something that would be affordable for most on a regular basis but my mom thoroughly enjoyed her birthday meal, and that is what counts!

Fresh Seafood! The absolute best shrimp cocktail ever! Look at the smoking Shrimp video. Mahi Mahi asian style special was fantastic. Came with rice and bok choy. Great service. Restaurant is on the noisy side. Make reservation on opentable. They also have steak and chicken but I would stay with seafood. They have all major types of fish served multiple ways. Lots of appertizers including oysters, soup and salads to choose from. Premium priced but worth it. Wines are higher than average priced but you are paying for quality food. Soup and salads are very reasonable.

I have always enjoyed coming to Off The Hook. The service and food is always spectacular here. Tonight was no exception. When we arrived for some pre-game cocktails prior to dinner, the place was already crowded. We made our way to the bar and had a few glasses of wine before dinner. The bar was crowded. There is a Shell Bar in the bar area along with several flat screen TV’s. The bar is fully stocked with ample amounts of wines by the glass, Scotch and Bourbon and some nice craft beer selections. Dining area is very modern yet cozy. Plenty of space between tables so you really don’t feel on top of your neighbors. The menu is mostly seafood with numerous ways to have it served up. The staff is spectacular. Very friendly and polite. Staff is prompt but not overbearing. The owner makes herself known and is delight. She recommended a dessert for us that was not on the menu and it was fantastic. They have a rather nice wine by the bottle list. The only ‘negative’ is that all wines are from the USA. But hey, I am easy, so it was not hard to find something to drink. This is a top choice in the North Hills, a nice change of pace from all the chain restaurants.

Went to Off The Hook after work and pleasant surprised to find that it was happy hour… SCORE!!! Unfortunately, I am sick so I was a good girl and refrained from ordering drinks but I did treat myself to their appetizers. I had the Oriental Style Mussels(6) — the mussels were a bit over done but still delicious; Tandoori Chilean Skewers — Chilean Sea Bass chunks on two skewers with a Mango slaw on top(9)… YUMMO!; ½ dozen of the Rappahannock oysters — so fresh($ 7.50). The bartender Vinny was very great — prompt and very attentive. I would definitely come back especially when I’m not sick so I can try some of their drinks. PS.When you walk in, there’s a foyer, to the left is the bar area and to the right is the formal sit down dining area.

Hands down, my new fave spot in the Pittsburgh area. I know that’s bold and all, but the food here was seriously delish. I had lunch here with my mom the other day and had an AMAZING time. We started with the French Onion Soup, and it was sublime — pipin’ hot and super flavorful. Oh, and the bread was ridiculously yummy, too. Totes fresh — came straight from the oven. Now onto entrees! My mom ordered the Salmon Vera Cruz — chargrilled salmon drizzled with extra virgin olive oil topped with tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, olives, and capers — and I got the Ahi Tuna Sashimi with extra pickled ginger — seared rare and coated with sesame seeds accompanied with a soy/wasabi sauce on the side. Per-fec-tion! Both dishes were absolutely scrumptious. Super fresh and cooked beautifully. Presentation was phenomenal, too! Dude, If you like sashimi, you’ll go gaga over my dish. I finished the ENTIRE plate like a fatty, ha! I couldn’t help it though. It was so so SO yummy. Anywho, my mom and I were totally stuffed at this point, but we decided to get dessert after hearing about their bomb pastry chef. We ended up getting their Triple Chocolate Latte — flour-less chocolate cake made with bittersweet, intense, and milk chocolates topped with freshly whipped Chantilly cream. Oh my freakin’ god. I swear, their pastry chef is magical. Best. Dessert. I’ve. Ever. Had. …yes, I needed ALL those periods. Call me a drama queen *winks* I’d seriously come back to just try every single dessert. I love this place SO much. Do I recommend this joint? Uh, hell yes. Off The Hook is SERIOUSLY off da hook. Décor, food, service = 5 stars. I’d give it 6 if I could! Hit this place up STAT!

The food here is amazing and the servers are knowledgeable and attentive. They would come around and clean the table and change your plates promptly. Try the combination app of jumbo shrimp cocktail, crab cake remoulade and ichiban of tuna, swordfish, and salmon and the side of crab mac and cheese. Even the fresh bread is good! It’s expensive to dine here but worth it for a special occasion or if you are craving great seafood. Extensive wine list. The hostesses are not very welcoming. Oops!
