This little museum was super cute. It’s a cheap way to spend an hour or less(or more if you’re a history buff) learning about this old jail and the history behind it. My kids enjoyed seeing all of the memorabilia as well as seeing how small the activity yard and the cells were. The stairs are steep and a little scary for small kids, but they survived. If I wasn’t with my 9 year olds, we probably would’ve spent more time there, reading about all of the history behind the jail and learning about Virginia’s past. But 9 year olds can only stay interested for so long before the whining begins. For a few bucks, it’s worth it to take a peek around !

What a neat little museum! There are two parts. The original jail in the front and a more modernized jail in the back. They have plenty of historical artifacts to peruse which covers much of the rich local history. The air conditioning gives you a nice reprieve from the summer humidity when you walk inside. Salvation! In a jail. I’ll take it where I can get it. :)

Displays change all the time. It has volunteers who are willing give you a guided tour. The gift shop has some nice gifts jewelry, candles, lavender products, blown glass, stained glass, sketches and photos plus more all done by local artisans.

It’s a pretty neat little museum in Old Town Warrenton. It’s usually never busy so walking through is easy. The history is great & it’s been pretty nicely preserved considering how long it’s been since it was an active jail facility.

History? Check. Volunteer full of information at the door? Check. Haunted? … Check… My friends thought it would be nice to give us a sliver of history in the area so we headed over to the old jail. The volunteer inside gave my boyfriend and I the entire history of the place, included the stories of the hauntings that have been reported here since before the jail was turned into a museum — yeah, the ghosts have been around for quite a while! There’s plenty to see here whether you believe in ghosts or not, and it’s free! If you’re a history buff or are on the hunt for a deceased soul that hasn’t quite yet crossed over, take a visit through the old jail. Worth it!
