I may suck because it took me over a month to complete this review, but Michael Isaiah Designs for Hair definitely does not suck. Actually I may have officially found *my* hair salon in STL finally… after 3.5 years living here.
I loved that this felt like a low-​key pampering event, if you could imagine casual meets glam. Everyone at the salon was so super friendly and helpful, especially Michael himself, who made it a point to try to talk to everyone who walked through the door and made sure we all got at least one treatment of our choice. I ended up getting my hair curled by Katie, who did a fabulous job with my super duper wild long hair. The curls looked so natural and she was very easy to talk to (no awkward hot seat at the hair stylists with Katie!) and lovely.
The salon itself, while located in a big sprawling strip mall, was very inviting and warm inside. It was modern and sleek but very welcoming. I also love that they use UNITE products here because this is the salon brand I’m used to using at my old salon back in California. The goodie bag we all received at the end contained a generous number of products, all of which I have since used!
Aaron did a great job as usual putting on this event and making sure we all had a great time. Big thanks to Michael Isaiah Designs For Hair and Unilocal for this lovely event!

This was probably one of the best Unilocal elite events I’ve been to thus far. It was a nice change from the typical drink-​and-​be-​merry events (though don’t get me wrong… I love those too!!!).
My sister and I arrived to a nice display of snacks put out by Aaron. The place itself is super chic and relaxing. We enjoyed having a glass of wine as well as the delicious chocolates that were placed out. The owner came up to us very soon after arriving (which was great!). He asked us what services we were interested in and we told him we were super excited to have our hair washed, blown-​dry, and curled.
Within about 5 minutes of talking with him, he was back with two fabulous ladies to style us. I wish I could remember their names, but both were extremely cheerful, friendly, and helpful. I got amazing tips from the woman who styled my hair, including a great recommendation for a dry shampoo. Seriously… this shampoo has changed my life! Thanks to this shampoo, I was able to go five days without washing my hair (and it didn’t look disgusting)! Such an amazing product! In addition to recommending a great product, I was also super impressed with the fact that she refused to take a tip at the end of the night. Not only that, but she gave me a $ 10 off coupon for the next time I stop by. Such a great stylist!
In terms of my style, I loved the way my hair looked at the end. It had such a nice «beach curl» effect. The only downside was that the curls fell out about 3 hours after my styling. I think this could easily be remedied in the future with stronger hair spray (I do have pretty heavy hair).
Finally, my sister ended up winning $ 150 in beauty products thanks to a great raffle! It is official… we will both definitely be back in the future!

Fantastic evening event! This salon has been open for 3 years, and they have no Unilocal reviews? Well, I’m sure we can change that soon. Michael greeted us when we came in and introduced us to the salon. He was very friendly! I’m not sure if he told everyone– if you book a salon service, bring his card (from the goodie bag) back in to get a free full-​size conditioner!
I got my hair blown out by Stephanie and my nails buffed by Carrie. Stephanie was so friendly, gave me great suggestions on how to do my hair myself, and she even suggested a different color the next time I have highlights. Carrie was fantastic and very efficient in the nail buffing. She removed my gel polish very quickly before buffing. My nails are still shiny today.
I have already booked an apt with Stephanie for this week because of this event. Keep in mind that all of the staff are independent workers– the phone #s on their cards are usually their cell phones.

Great/​creative activity! Kudos to Aaron and the salon for arranging this and keeping a smooth flow of people! The staffs were very friendly. I liked my bang trim from Janet. She was fast and efficient and very sweet. The snacks were tasty and in perfect portions for the event.

This was my first Unilocal event, and I loved it! The staff did such a fantastic job! I knew they must have been tired working all day and then staying open to do free services, but they were all so friendly and helpful. The salon is narrow, but very chic and updated. I was able to get two services done. I wanted a braid done, and Jenny went above and beyond to do my hair. She curled it all first then braided it where I wanted it and finished it off with teasing and hairspray. My hair looked amazing! Not what I expected from a free hair braid! They had a lot of wine and beer, which I would have partaken from, had I not been pregnant. They also had fresh fruit and plenty of tasty treats. My next service was a manicure. I assumed it would be a nail file since they only had one nail tech, and there was a line for her. Nope, she did everything but paint our nails! They look great! She shaped them up, cleaned cuticles, and buffed them. Oh ya, and put lotion on our hands. They also sent everyone home with goodie bags. I love free stuff. I got 4 travel size items that I’m super excited to try out. Fantastic! I definitely recommend them! Thank you for a fun girl’s night!

Great event! We were pleasantly greeted upon arrival and given the rundown of the evening. They had plenty of staff ready and willing to beautify us! I had a bang trim first with Katie Cady (love her name!!) she did a great job as well as informed me on where to stop within my hairline when trimming my own bangs. She also whisked me away for a quick brow wax since my new bangs unveiled unsightly growth :) I then watched my friend Sue get an application of airbrushed makeup. It was amazing! We then we’re hanging out by the nail service and she was open and we jumped in and. Had a basic mani done! I love love love it!!! No polish, just buffing and they are still gorgeous and shiny today!
We breaked throughout the event at the wine/​snack table. Had a glass of wine and a few decedent chocolate truffles!
Overall this event was very well thought out. Everyone was extremely friendly and I know where I need to go for the best natural manicure I have ever had!

This was such a cool event. Free samples of salon-​quality products, some tasty treats, the staff was super friendly and very professional. I was able to get the down-​low on how hair extensions work and get my nails trimmed and buffed. The lovely lady that did my nails was super nice and made me feel so relaxed. I loved that we did a drawing and I met some really cool Unilocalers! Overall, a fantastic evening.

What a luxurious evening! There were so many different services available that it was really hard to choose what my two should be. Luckily, something drew me to nails right off the bat and I got to be the first to go for the evening! Thank goodness, because there was a long line that lasted throughout the evening. The lovely lady who did my nails, was warm and friendly! She shaped and buffed my nails — they’re so pretty that I’ve been staring at them ever since!
For my second service, I got my hair curled. She gave me several great tips so that I could improve what I’ve been doing at home. I have very fine hair and I cut it chin length. She suggested using a wand instead of a regular curler — I frequently have trouble holding curl, but this really did the trick. She also suggested that I curl in alternating directions to achieve a «beachy» look. It looked very cute and added great volume!
There were also small bites and drinks. I’m not much of a drinker, but I was a huge fan of that fruit plate! The pineapple and cantaloupe were delicious!
At the end of the evening, they sent us home with a bag full of goodies! — four different hair products to help us treat ourselves at home. I think my favorite is the argan oil. I hear it’s great for basically every part of your body, but I think I’m going to try it on my skin first!

Got a haircut with Michael. He took my comments about face framing and gave me the best haircut I’ve had in years! He’s a perfectionist and truly knows what he’s doing! Had such a great time here. Even my hair wash/​head massage was awesome!
