I’ve been here twice since the crowds have died down. There’s lots of fast food around here and at $ 5.95 the Fish & Chips special is hard to beat. It’s solid, probably better than the chow they served at old Rocky Point Park. Nice portion, moderately thick well-seasoned fries, coleslaw was cold and tasty. Not sure how long they’ll be here since its outside, but definitely worth checking out in the warmer months.

I was skeptical for sure on this place claiming to have the Rocky Point recipes from my childhood. This exceeded my expectations and is absolutely the recipes /food I can still remember from the amusement park. Clam Cakes were perfect, a bit smaller but chunks of clam and crispy exterior with pillowy inside. The lemonade was perfect and uses real cane sugar. Of course the Red Chowder… Amazing! I will definitely be back before summer ends.

A bit of the past Rocky Point was once a huge amusement park located right on Narragansett Bay. It started way back in 1840 or so and survived hurricanes, floods, and wars. All kinds of famous people went there, including presidents and foreign dignitaries as well as hordes of «regular» folk. Many people growing up in RI and NE have fond memories of Rocky Point. But times finally caught up to the venerable amusement park and it closed for good in 1996. But last year a couple of fellows came up with the idea to recreate the feel and perhaps even the food of the old park so they opened up a shack in a random parking lot and started dishing out clams, lobster, chowder and other seafood type thingies. And they got as many authentic items from the original park as they could find and scattered them around. Certainly nothing like the real amusement park but the stuff is entertaining to look at while waiting for your food. Rhode Island has a whole lot of seafood shacks like this and most are pretty good and Rocky Point Clam Shack is no exception. Everything is just what you except from a NE seafood joint. A cool bit of kitsch combined with some nostalgia that just happens to have some pretty good food too.

If you can get over the randomness of the location of this place, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with their tasty food offerings. Rocky Point Clam Shack is less of a shack and more of trip back to Rhode Island history with its nostalgia-inducing decorations and row of coin operated rides(there’s a random Batman one that’s literally a cave that you sit in and it just moves around. Kids seem to like it though!). Also — there’s a random Ann & Hope in the back of the parking lot to satisfy all of your crafting needs after your meal. Now lets talk about the food. We’ve tried the clam cakes, clam rolls, lobster rolls and clam chowder. Each of these items were DELICIOUS. My favorite has got to be the chowder and clam cakes. The clam cakes were perfectly cooked with just enough of a golden crunch on the outside and huge chunks of clams on the inside. These are also not ginormous balls so I don’t feel nearly as guilty eating 3 or 12 of these. Definitely worth the trek down to Warwick so be sure to stop by before the summer ends!

Not growing up in RI, I don’t have the fond memories of Rocky Point that many do. But I have been walking to the former site of the park, so I get the nostalgia. That being said, this business is still in an odd location if they’re trying to evoke seaside memories! Sitting at a picnic table watching Post Rd traffic whiz by is not my idea of a great meal venue. Bonus points for having live music to drown out the traffic noise. But we’re here for the food, so let’s talk about that. I’m a huge fan of RI-style fish and chips. Super light crispy batter/breading and wonderful hot crispy fries. This fish was a little different. The fish itself was yummy — light, flaky and fresh as could be. But the coating? A little too heavy for my taste — it went from being moderately crispy to soft as it cooled down. The fries were ok, but tasted like they had sat for a little while(we got there around 8pm — still some customers, but not hopping). All in all — just ok. We might go back, but with so many other good options, maybe not.

A combination of awesome and sad. Awesome that you can get the same clam cakes(though not the same chowder). Awesome you can hear the same 80s music. Awesome that you can see some of the old kiddie rides and kitch from the old Rocky Point. Sad that Rocky Point, for many a symbol of a pro-family and prosperous middle class Rhode Island of the middle 20th century, is gone forever. One has the impression of being a survivor walking the ruins. With a bag of clam cakes as your only comfort.

Definately time to update my review. After simmering down after my previous visit here I opted to return with my son and wow! have they got their act together! So happy to not only see that the kid toys were operating but they also built some sort of playhouse with a sandpit underneath. My toddler was in love! We enjoyed some clamcakes and they were quite scrumptious. A huge serving size with big chunks of fresh clams in them. And a huge plus that there is plenty of seating with umbrellas at each table and mostly fenced in so you can enjoy your yummy food before racing after your child when they head for the opening in the fence ;) nice job guys! Thanks for the new warwick spot!

Found this place on Unilocal as soon as I landed(5 minutes from airport) for lunch I order the lobster roll, I had it warm with butter, melted in my mouth! On my way back to airport, I ordered calamari appetizer and clam roll sandwich… Also the hot donuts with cinnamon sugar, I was in heaven!

I have a few friends from RI, and I ran into them last weekend. They told me that I needed to try clam cakes with some New England clam chowder. So I looked up a clam shack near our hotel, and headed down to Rocky Point for dinner. My husband and I both ordered the clam cake and chowder combo. I also ordered a Del’s frozen lemonade(amazing btw!) We were very pleased with the portion sizes of the clam cakes. Crispy outside and light and fluffy clam filled insides. As many suggested, we dunked our cakes in the chowder! Everything was so delicious and came out quickly! I will be back for some more amazing food!

I accidentally was staying at one of the nearby hotels. Without having a car, there weren’t too many choices to go to other than taverns and fast food joints. I did a google map search and the reviews for Rocky Point, for the most part, were pretty decent. So I gave it a go for lunch. It’s not the prettiest location in the world. In fact, it’s such an odd setting. It’s a clam shack with at least 20 park benches in front of it. But rather than a beach setting, it sits on a busy road on your way to the airport, and right next to a Firestone Auto Care. Location aside, the food was awesome! I had clam cakes and whole belly clam roll for lunch. It was so delicious, I went back again for dinner. This time, I grabbed a cup of clam chowder and lobster roll to go. I just didn’t feel like having motorists watch me eat, so instead I enjoyed my dinner in the comfort of my own hotel room, while watching Law & Order SVU. There was absolutely no mayonnaise in the lobster roll… big plus there. Huge chunks of lobster meat just took over the entire take out container. A couple of the claws were so big, it took nearly 3 bites per claw. They were so tender and so sweet. I absolutely loved every bite of it. It is definitely my go-to the next time I accidentally have to stay in the area again!

The buttered lobster roll is unbelievable. Seriously. Never eat anything again. The clam cakes are very good with big chunks of clam in them. Seasoned well, salty, and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside without being heavy. The red chowder was decent, but I won’t get it again. The lobster roll in butter, however, I could eat everyday. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. UPDATE I got the whole belly clams(8oz side for $ 14) and the lobster roll with mayo today. Clams were superb. Clean, well seasoned, crispy and yet creamy, with a sweetness at the end. Fantastic. The traditional mayo lobster roll was excellent. The roll was toasted and the mayo filling was on top of a leaf of romaine. This kept the roll from getting soggy and added a fresh crunch to the lobster salad. I can’t decide which I like better, mayo or butter! What do you think?!

So I can’t really remember ordering when this place was at Rocky Point Park. But I do remember what I ordered and got today. I had to break out of my retirement of reviews because it’s just so disappointing. First off, the clam cakes, they are good, but they are tiny. If you intend to make it so small, perhaps price it better? For a dozen of RPCS clam cakes, $ 7.99 + tax, you get roughly what seems like a half dozen at other places. Clever idea to make them small and crispy to give the illusion of giving more clams per cake, but it’s expensive. How can you order clam cakes and not order clam chowder? I ordered a pint of white chowder. It was good but not great, in a way it tasted like they used too much flour to thicken it and it was cooked too fast. I can also see the fat separating from the cream. Not sure what that’s about. There was some clams, I’d definitely have to disagree with those that say, «a lot» of clams. On to the next, I ordered a lobster roll, why? Because I didn’t want to get one at McDonald’s. The associate did ask if I wanted butter or mayo, I was confused. She didn’t explain she meant warm or cold. I just opted for mayo since I had no idea how cold butter on the lobster roll would be like. The roll itself could’ve been better if toasted crispier. They did give plenty of lobster salad on the roll. The sandwich comes with a side of fries. To my surprise, they were good but it looked like they literally stood there counting to make sure I got no more than 15 fries. I’d probably have to skip this place in the future.

Some people like to get lobster rolls that are all mayo-y and gross. I am not one of those people. It seems rare to find a place that serves a hot buttery lobster roll. They do have the mayo option for you mayo lovers too, don’t worry. This place does it, and they do it really well. I am drooling right now thinking about it. lol. Going from Long Island to Providence I have to stop here… more then once if possible. Once on the way, and again on the way home. I LOVE the lobster roll and bf who is allergic to seafood luckily loves the«saugies» which are hot dogs in case you don’t know. He kept saying how juicy they were and how much the roll was toasted perfectly…“how do they get it so perfect?” The hot lobster roll is the same… the bun is toasted perfectly… just a little crispy on the outside and so soft and tender on the inside… seriously. drool.

So, maybe I should have trusted my instincts NOT to order a lobster roll or whole belly clams from a plywood trailer sitting in the middle of the former Ann & Hope parking lot. But you know, benefit of the doubt and all that– This place even recently got a favorable write-up in RI monthly recently, so… Now, I bet that the clam cakes and dough-boys are fine here. I’m sure they get fried balls of batter right… kinda hard to mess that up. But, supposing myself some sort of «Fancy man» I had to go ahead and order a Lobster roll and a «pint» of fried«whole» belly clams. Sorry about all the quotation marks, folks but that was NOT a pint, and they certainly were NOT whole belly clams. More like clam strips, which have their place and time, certainly-but NOT if they’re billed as, and charged accordingly for, Whole Belly Clams! If I wanted a few ounces of over-fried strips of nondescript«clam like material» I would have gone to the MacDonald’s Drive Thru– and NOT had to bay $ 15 bucks! Also, the Lobster roll, at $ 15 dollars was NOT a bargain. Over cooked claw meat on a limp hot dog bun. Not even grilled. I’d rather pay $ 20+ at some tourist trap in Tiverton. At least there it’d be GOOD. $ 33.00 buckaroos for what was basically a Wendy’s or Dangellos’ type meal. Next time I’ll grab a Baconator.

We are normally die-hard Iggy’s fans, but one sunny saturday the hubster and I were cruising around the coastline when a craving for doughboys hit but Oakland Beach was a mad house and no parking was to be found. Frustrated we turned to our trusty Unilocal app and it reminded me that I had wanted to try this place because it looked cute and nostalgic, so off we went. Now a parking lot on post road doesn’t have quite the same ambiance as being on the beach but it’s surprisingly nice. The road noise is minimal and they often have some live music, there is also a pretty good breeze sitting at the picnic tables. For the kiddos I spotted a sand table and a bunch of coin operated rides, you know like the ones that used to be found outside every grocery store or department store when you were a kid. On to the food. .. first time here we got the previously mentioned doughboy but also couldn’t resist the smell of friend seafood so we also split a kids order of fish & chips. I appreciate that they didn’t shame me for ordering off the kids menu, because sometime you just want a smaller serving! I was surprised at how good the fish & chips were and even the kids portion was large enough for an adult. The doughboy is one large piece of friend dough instead of the smaller ones you get elsewhere by the half dozen. I actually prefer my fried dough this way, it’s how I always had it growing up in MA. On our 2nd visit I got the adult order of fish & chips and the hubster got clam cakes and chowder. Again the fish & chips were great, the fish was flaky but moist and had a light batter. The french fries are where it’s at though, they are very crispy and seasoned very well. The clamcakes are on the smaller size but you get a bunch of them, and because there was less dough it at least gave to illusion of more clams. The chowder wasn’t bad, it wasn’t out of this world either.. . just average. But I was very surprised them the hubster stated that he liked this food much better then Iggy’s and I have to agree with him. Check out their facebook page for coupons or specials. I happened to be there when they were having a special on the fish & chips so that was a bonus!

Hubby and I give it a 5. For me the memories were great. Hubby had the fish and chips and so did our son. It was flaky and moist and really good. The clam cakes were small, which I’m sure people complain about but being that I’m 35 I only ever remember them being on the small side as that’s how they were towards the end of the park being open. Chowder isn’t as thick as original RPCH and there was more«greenery» than they’d ever put in but it was still delicious. There’s a small area for the kids to play which is welcome. My only wish would be that they could have an indoor/outdoor restaurant type setup. We were out all day and it would have been nice to have a place to wash my hands properly.

So I have pretty mixed feelings on this place. The food is terrific. Our family had clam cakes, lobster roll, the fish tacos, chicken fingers and stuffies. Every single thing was terrific. My husband loved the tacos despite not usually enjoying fish tacos. They have warm and cold lobster rolls. The cold one had a ton of lobster with just a little mayonnaise, just how I like it. What’s not so great is the location. I guess for a parking lot setup it’s a good as can be expected. They have a lot of picnic tables and it was clean. I can see they tried to give it atmosphere from the old park but it doesn’t quite work. Another negative is the only options for drinks are vending machines($ 2) or overpriced Del’s lemonade($ 3 for a small). I like Del’s as much as the next gal but elsewhere it’s $ 2. I will definitely return to try more items from the menu but we might opt for takeout.
