After a few E-​mails back and forth in September of 2013, I had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with Anita Rothbaum for a Rental in the Piermont NY area.(and it was a horrible experience) On our first appointment she showed up 30 minutes late, in her slippers. While this is not a huge deal, it was the first of many unacceptable encounters. After viewing a few rentals, my wife and I settled on a rental and agreed to move forward.
I went by myself to their Nyack office to take care of the paperwork where Anita attempted to sneak my into a two year contract instead of a one year contract. She conveniently left this out and just told me to sign it, «Don’t worry, you do not have to read it, it is everything we spoke about» After reading it and finding out that it was a 2 year lease and not a single year lease, I pushed her about why it was changed and she replied with the stupid statement «well the landlord usually lets you out after a year if you want to» After I informed her that my signature legally bound me to a 2 year lease, she took a step back and tried to avoid the issue, only to be corrected by a co-​worker who noticed that I was aware of what I was reading. (surprise, not everybody you deal with is an idiot) Although borderline fraud, I did like the apartment and was able to fix the rental contract to work. Finally I was done dealing with this arrogant woman. Still pissed off, I decided to let it go, after all, the only reason I had to deal with her was for the rental anyway.
Lets fast forward to about 11 months later… The E-​mails start trickling in, usually starting off in the very general. «I see your contract is almost up, please contact me to find your new place». I would say I was pretty surprised that she was trying to shake out another commission, but after dealing with this snake before, It did not really phase me. I E-​mailed back saying that everything was fine and that we were going to stay in our current location. I got a quick reply with a typical salesman offering about how we could get more for less. I let it go.
Another 6 months later, Now on Unilocal to preach my horrible experience, as I have found out she has been contacting our landlord to try to get him to not re-​new our lease so she can re-​rent the apartment for more money. This probably could be considered fraud at this point, not that I plan to pursue it.
Long story short, Anita is the lowest scum of the earth and I would never ever recommend this «business» to anybody else. Our experience has been 100% horrible the entire time and I absolutely regret ever getting involved.
