Been going here occasionally since college. Hey, its payless so you know you will find shoes to get you through that event. Over the years it seems that they tried to upgrade the shoe quality. It’s super conveinent, right next to Tenleytown Metro, on Wisconsin Ave, with Starbucks on one side and Panera Bread on the other. Personally, I would opt for Guapos mexican food. Never know when you’ll need an emergency pair of shoes.

Look, it’s not like I have terribly high expectations for a Payless Shoe store. I just go to stock up on basic flats twice a year or so. But I can’t wrap my head around what is going on at this store. First, there were a bunch of kids running around and rummaging through drawers behind the registers. They had their hands in everything, were distracting the cashier and made it difficult to check out. During check out, the cashier seemed really flustered and her blouse was all lopsided, to the point that one of her boobs was exposed. The whole thing kind of made me wonder if they were her kids and if so, what the hell were they doing in the store? If not, where were their parents? Then the cashier says, «You can also get 50% off on socks for dad.» WTH. What dad? Is that just a random thing they throw out? I was alone in the store and it’s nearly 2 months to Father’s Day. Did she think I was preggo? What is even going on here? About a week later, I come in to exchange one of the pairs I bought during the BOGO event. I checked their website to make sure I could still exchange the pair for another one of the same price even though BOGO had ended. Website says you can do this. Cashier says I have to pay full price for the exchange because it’s not BOGO anymore. I just returned the one I bought at ½ price and left. The management needs to get it together. I’d rather trek down to Metro Center than go through this nonsense.

The window displays are flashy.(Some of) the shoes are trendy. The staff greets me pleasantly. This isn’t my favorite place to pick up kicks, but hey– it’s DC. Everyone gets caught running from appointments, to internships, or over the gym and just needs the appropriate shoes. The shoes are somewhat well organized– I’ve seen better and worse. The staff are helpful with informing customers of specials and promotions. If you step in to warm up in the winter(or cool down in the summer) for a few minutes, you will probably walk out with something flimsy yet fashionable, and staff will thank you as you’re on your way.

This store is located close to where I live so it’s my go-to Payless. I go there whenever I run out of(or wear out) my flats, maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I’m confident that the one star review was an anomaly. While the service here is not the best I’ve ever had, the fact is that the store is usually somewhat understaffed and the staff is busy. If you alert them that you are ready to pay they come immediately and assist you. The store itself is rather small and, therefore, the selection is smaller than at other Payless locations. However, for a nice neighborhood store where you can grab shoes for cheap, I’d say this place does alright.

Yesterday(Wednesday the 24th of October) We bought 3 pairs of shoes, cool. Now to pay for them it’s a whole other story, everybody(two workers) was chatting on their stupid phones. One of them was talking in the back«sorting» out shoes but she was just talking while actually patting shoes, and the other one was sitting on the bench having a chit chat with her buds on the phone! I was not the only one disturbed! Because there was two groups of costumers who left because they waited to long in line because NOBODYWASAVAILABLE! When it was our turn we waited long too but we decided to look for the workers and we found one of them still on the phone. She looked so tempered on her way to the cash register, come on we are BUYINGSHOES we are PAYING her, but she’s acting like we are disturbing her!!! We almost quit buying the shoes for revenge, but we needed them though. No Hello or Thank you or even Bye! Is there a 0 star here? If yes I would so put it People should not be working if they prefer being lazy, they should stay home. Anaelle-12 years old
