I’ve been back, and definitely must’ve been a changing of the guard there. Good service, good food.

Given the location and name of the place, you might be thinking it would be a Capital Hill kinda place to go. But, once you enter, you quickly learn it is not the type of bar you picture while on the Hill. That said, it’s what you consider a dive bar and the people are friendly, drinks are cold, and if you can handle the hip-hop from the stereo you are all set. Enjoy!

I group of us came in after a Nats game. The service was amazing and they have awesome happy hour specials. It was a Friday and they had $ 5 personal sized pizzas. I had the PRIMAVERA(basil pesto, caramelized onions, peppers, spinach, mushrooms, mozzarella.) which was pretty good. They also had great drink specials. Their normal prices were extremely reasonable for the DC area.

A few weeks ago i met some friends for a birthday celebration during HH. We got there areound 4:30pm. It was pretty empty, but was told that it usually gets packed around 5pm. Ordered pizza drank a few beers than about 5:30pm it was packed. This is great place to go after work if you work near Eastern Market Metro. Pizza came out pretty fast. I’ve tasted better but it was not to shabby. If you are planning on attending go before 5pm so you can lock in a table, if not you will be doing alot standing.

I actually like the 18th Amendment a good bit. It is generally my choice of bars on the Hill if I’m having a happy hour. Why? First and foremost they have a good beer selection. It is also usually empty early in the evening, though it can get rather crowded when the kick ball teams come in later in the night. I also like the décor. It isn’t fancy or anything, but it has a bit of an art deco feel to it which I enjoy. I’ve been told there is a downstairs as well which is more of a dungeon. I haven’t actually been down there though, so I can’t really comment on it. Overall one of the better places to get a drink on the Hill. Also, the food is terrible. Definitely not where you want to go if you are looking for a bite to eat.

I always leave here drunk, so yes, I’m a fan. Bartenders are friendly, drinks are strong, food is decent, HH prices are great, crowd is chill, and later in the evening, there is usually hip-hop playing. They downstairs bar is shady, but I love it. I need to return more often.

Came here on a friday directly from work with a large group of people. The place was great. Plenty of room for all of us to hang out. $ 4 Abita Amber specials and ½ price pizzas! The pizzas here are large for a personal pizza and are exceptional! When we first arrived there was only one bartender who was overwhelmed by our group on 10+ people. After a short time a few more bar tenders showed up and drinks were flowing much more smoothly. When you come to a bar this is what you are looking for. Nothing to fancy, nothing to crazy! Cold beer, good food, and good prices!

This is my neighborhood after work bar because it is right outside my office window. I mean, I literally stare at it for 8+ hours a day. Which is probably why I have a drinking problem? Hmm — – The Amendment Fits all the categories necessary for being an after work haunt; great service from bartenders that remember your order, easy group seating, totally affordable Happy Hour deals. Nobody is going to say the Amendment is cool, or that it is beautiful, or that they make some statement cocktail. But if you want a convenient place that isn’t going to be balls deep crowded, where you and some friends/colleagues/ex-girlfriends can sit down and have a drink or two and chat: the Amendment fits the bill. Also, Happy Hour Pizzas are surprisingly good and really cheap(half-price).

During one rainy weekend my siblings and I plus our significant others ventured here to redeem our $ 14 for brunch and unlimited drinks deal from Google Offers. If you were not able to purchase the voucher from Google Offers, it’s okay, because they do offer their unlimited drinks deal for $ 15. However, the $ 14 deal is a total steal(IMO). Prior to coming here, we each read up on the place and was expecting a dive bar with reasonable prices. Reasonable prices, yes, dive bar, borderline. It’s a step up from being a dive bar. I like the feel of the place, very unpretentious! Not to mention close to my place! There were seven of us during this outing, five of us showed up as scheduled, the other two were running late. The five that arrived early got seated and right away started drinking our unlimited bloody marys and mimosas. The mimosas according to others that ordered them said were good, but watered down with soda water. As for the bloody marys, they do use well vodka and you have to mix/make your own bloody marys(add the tomato juice, the Tabasco sauce, ground pepper, all the fixings, etc). The bartender(s)/waiter(s) will bring out a glass of ice and well vodka for you to make your bloody mary. The service there was fantastic! Our waiter/bartender, Eric aka Luscious(our nickname for him), went beyond his call of duty. He not only serviced the other tables around us, but he also managed to keep the seven of us fully hydrated! As for the food, a few of us ordered the challenger(your choice of two scrambled or fried eggs with two slices of bacon and two sausage links. *Served with home-fries, buttery grits and toast), lots of food, eggs nice done, nicely seasoned, and everything was prepared southern style(aka dipped in butter!). A few others ordered the breakfast burrito(scrambled eggs, sausage, avocado, salsa, sour cream, and cheddar-jack cheese in a griddled soft tortilla, served with home-fries), again, well seasoned, very good, and large in quantity. The rest of the pack ordered the sunrise platter(scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, turkey bacon, multi grain toast, fresh seasonal fruit). The food did not disappoint, neither did the quantity of the drinks, nor the service! This is a spot that we will be returning to, for brunch, sport viewing ventures, and even happy hours!

I really respect businesses that reach out to customers that have either had a bad experience with the place or a mediocre one. that shows #1 you care about your establishment, the establishment’s reputation, and about us ordinary customers. After a few Unilocal messages with the owner/manager– it’s nice that they’ve tried to clear up the«no cake» situation, and notified me that worker is no longer there. maybe i’ll give it another try and check out awesome deck soon!

Arrived here specifically for DC101 happy hour w/the $ 1 Summer Ales. Not only are these awesome but the half off pizzas are spectacular! The hummus and pita wasn’t great and the coconut shrimp was good. Majority of the stars go towards the pizza. Great dive bar to go to for a quick drink and some pizza for happy hour.

I first went to 18th Amendment for a Unilocal Elite event and it was fabulous. The chicken tenders are AMAZING and they have a tangy sauce paired with them that is to die for. The bar staff are friendly and it’s overall a very solid bar. The atmosphere is very chill, yet exciting. I always appreciate a dimly lit space.

Solid bar. Their beer was pretty good(and even with a malfunction they were able to quickly overcome and adapt). The bar staff is definitely top notch. The food? Other than a quite tasty pesto pizza I was less than impressed. They had perhaps the most bland mac and cheeze I have ever tasted, their non-pesto pizza tasted as though it was from a box and the mozz sticks tasted like they just came from the box.

*SEEPICS* At first glance, this is «just a bar». No frills. The locals seem to like it and everybody knows everybody else’s name/food and drink order. I used a kgbdeals voucher(entrée + bottomless mimosas or Bloody Marys for $ 14 ) to check out brunch last month. Since I’m always looking for new and affordable«bottomless mimosa» brunch options, I jumped at the chance to go. The regular price for the bottomless mimosas or Bloody Mary brunch deal is $ 30 — and they ensure that your glass doesn’t stay empty for long. The mimosas are champagne with a SPLASH of orange juice(no complaints!) and the DIY Bloody Mary bar(more vodka than ice) is a mixer’s dream. The brunch menu is fairly simple, but good — like grandma used to make. The portions are large and you will leave there glad that you came. Staff shout-out: Tony!(bartender)

This bar has great beers, including Abita. It also has some of the best chicken wings in the city. This is the local LSU hangout and is really fun for watching Saints or LSU games. There are tons of televisions you can watch from just about any angle. However, seating can be limited and the crowd can be intense during a close game.

5 Stars for the service, 2 Stars for the food. I went here for Unilocal event. For the event we had trivia and had a beer called 19th Amendment or something. The beer was from a pre-prohibition recipe. Needless to say, there is a reason it took so long to bring the recipe back from the dead… it’s not that good. The CO2 tank wasn’t ready for the kegs so the bartenders gave us other beers while we were waiting… as they should… it was still nice. Bartenders were chill and service was pretty good. Unlike other Unilocal events, they didn’t pull out all their aces for us. The mac and cheese was pretty weak and their pizza was meh. It’s a bar, go there for the drinks.

Great little hole in the wall with a fantastic theme for a bar. They had a great selection of beers on tap as well as alcohols to choose from. I even saw a good number of wine bottles available, thought that was not what I was there for. I was thoroughly impressed with the fact that they had Arrogant Bastard IPA on tap. You hardly find that in bottles, let alone having the sweet nectar from San Diego poured into a beer glass from a glorious keg. As for the bar itself, the service was fantastic during a private event, the atmosphere is low-lit(as a bar should be), and they even have free wireless. I did not try the food that was raved about in other reviews, so I guess I’ll just have to go back. Like it’s hard to get me into a bar…

Great bar for happy hour. I enjoyed the jukebox acting as a dj, their Batch 19 beer and their killer pesto pizza. Special shout out to their bar staff that keep the liquor flowing the entire happy hour. Also, their Trivia night host by Tryst was lots of fun and really gave my boyfriend and I an opportunity to get to know a lot of really fun people.

This is my third time for going here. The second time I went, I actually got some food. Kudo’s on the pesto pizza; I especially like it since it has a thin crust. Otherwise I normally just go here to drink. This time I was there with my boyfriend and a group of friends — it was our last stop of the night. They have a great selection of beers and honestly the bar tenders can make a martini(unlike the Hawk and Dove). I also like the fact that it is very close to the metro.

If you have to pick your poisons, each of the Penn Ave/Cap Hill bars have their strong points. When it comes to food, 18th Amendment comes out way ahead of the others. Their food is not just good bar food(typical selection of wings, artichoke dip, tenders, burgers, etc etc), but it’s good food in general. I especially like their pizzas because they are thin crust, and I would probably order them even if they weren’t ½ priced during happy hour. Happy hour is 4−8pm Monday to Friday. ½ priced pizzas, $ 5 wine, $ 4 peroni, $ 4 svedka drinks, $ 3 bud. They mix up their specials everyday(Tuesdays are sangria and margarita pitchers for $ 10−12ish if I remember correctly — split 2 of ‘em so it’s a little fuzzy). Will definitely have to make it here on a weekend for bottomless mimosas($ 15). This place is much more loungey upstairs than a lot of Cap Hill Bars, but it’s not necessarily a pretentious *nice* lounge. However, it can be a chill place to kick back. I personally prefer to go downstairs to the bomb shelter basement and hang at the bar to do my catching up. Unlike most basement sections of bars, this might actually better than the lounge upstairs. There’s a Wii, a short bar, and couple tables. Doesn’t get too loud, and it doesn’t have those weird x-mas lights like upstairs. Plus, Sharkey the bartender works in the basement and his service alone kicks this bar up a notch. He’s stoic and pro, and might just be an institution in this neighborhood.
