Came in for a slice and decided to go with the deep dish cheese slice. All of the pizza looked gross and uncooked in their display. Got the deep dish slice expecting it to be $ 4 only to be a $ 7.15 slice, the most I have ever spent on a single slice of pizza in my life. Plus, the man who swiped my credit card was very rude It turned out to be far and away the worst thing I have ever tasted. The main layer of cheese was still so cold. The sauce could’ve been mistaken for dirt. So gross, so overpriced. Stay away and go next store to DuPonts instead

On a recent trip to DC, I really wanted to get Alberto’s because I was a regular when I lived here years ago. The classic cheese thin crust is my favorite!

First place I’ve seen that does deep dish in DC. We I would recommend resisting the temptation to cut it immediately when it arrives — it is super wet and gooey. The consistently probably would have been more solid(and closer to Chicago style) if we had waited for 10 minutes first. While it didn’t taste as good as Chicago deep dish, it’ll definitely do for DC pizza!

Hungry travelers looking for quick bite. Plenty of selections. Quick preparation. Super courteous service. Extra touch with adding paper plates for our hotel room take out experience.

I just picked up a slice of pepperoni and sausage. I didn’t think any pizza could be disgusting, but I was wrong. The cheese was overcooked, the meat had an aftertaste, and the bottom of the pizza was burnt in various places. I totally wish I could get my $ 4 back.

Was in the area from out of town, and wanted to try something different. Ordered a deep dish mushroom and spinach pizza, and was really good! The crust was crispy, not wet or mushy. The fillings were delicious, and the pizza arrived exactly when it was estimated to arrive pipping hot and fresh. I was very impressed with this pizza/delivery, and would definitely try this place the next time I am in town.

Got pizza delivered to our hotel and the thin crust half pepperoni did not disappoint! Was delicious and may have been devoured in under 10 minutes between two people. Even came with a small container of parm and a packet of crushed red pepper — so perfect!

Delicious! The jumbo slices are huge and take a small amount of time to cook which is great. Very friendly staff-thanks for a great experience!

Since I left Chicago in 1992, I’ve searched for a place that could make a decent version of authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. Finally I have found one. Well worth the 45 minute wait it takes to bake a true Chicago pizza. Easily the best pizza available in DC.

This spot is downstairs from street level and so I totally missed it because another pizza place is right next to it and above ground so more visible. I was glad I saw a sign they put out on the street, though. Had a late night slice of pepperoni pizza around midnight on a recent Saturday night. At the time they had 5 – 6 pizzas to choose from. The slice was $ 5 and tasted good(even considering the time of day), with a nice crisp crust and tangy sauce. No complaints, and the guy working the counter was very cool. But but for about the same price i can get a bigger slice at the place upstairs. In the future, I might try the Chicago style deep dish pizza they advertise(which can’t be purchased by the slice).

Realize you’re not going into a top-notch Sicilian pizza restaurant. This is not Italy, where all the food is organic by default and pizza is something you’d eat in heaven. It’s Washington DC, alright. And these guys have been able to make do with the local products — and I think it’s as good as it can get for a place like this: a lot cheaper than many other pizza places, but a lot tastier and faster too. It’s not particularly a place I’d go to hang out, as it’s always fairly loud and, honestly, they aren’t really set up like a cozy restaurant. They have enough seating space to just sit and wait for your pizza. Or, if you don’t mind the loudness and the subbasement feel of the place, then there is sufficient space for you to take a seat and enjoy your pizza. But I usually order to go. And I’ve not regretted it even once yet. And the service has been perfectly fine all the time. And by the way, the have big chocolate chip cookies too. :)

If only they would let you choose negative stars, I would definitely give them –5 stars. Terrible customer service, repeatedly tried to tell me the pizza was cut when it was wasn’t. I could literally throw the pie like a frisbee but told me to double check that I just wasn’t seeing the cuts. Rudest owner, I’ve ever dealt with in regards to customer service and accommodations.

As a fan of true deep dish pizza, I was looking forward to trying this well-reviewed place. The deep dish part was legit, but the toppings I had ordered(double pepperoni and mushroom and sausage) were nowhere to be found. For the price(expensive), they should have been there.

First time here. Pizza was delicious. Great location right by all the bars in Du Ponte Circle. Pizza was hand made and tasted delicious. Big slices of pizza for a great price. Had music playing in the background which was Caribbean and I enjoyed it. Will definitely be coming back.

Great pizza. I didn’t feel like finding a place to eat after a nice long day of sight seeing and getting ready for the million man march. Once I got back to the hotel. I ordered two deep dish pizzas for myself and guests. One triple cheese and the other meat lovers. Both were super relish! Cheesy with good portions of meat and sauce.

I’m hard-pressed to find words to this describe this place in a way that sets it apart from any other standard issue pizza-by-the-slice joint. You walk down into and English basement next to the beer store with $ 150 bottles and all the pizzas are pre-prepared but not cooked. We received our orders fairly quickly, but the pizza itself was so mediocre and uninspiring that all I can say is you’re probably better off with opting for jumbo slice. At least jumbo slice knows what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything more.

A great place to get big slices of pizza at an affordable price. You pick out what slice you want and the staff pop it into the oven. Our slices came out pipping hot with perfect crust and melty cheese. Yum!

ATTNPIZZALOVERS: you won’t regret it. With a fresh look and Alberto’s is not an uncared for hole in the wall, this place takes a modern approach to the pizza experience. I’d say, it is a surprisingly perfect mix between freshness and waiting for a pizza. Give yourself 3minutes(or five if you’re like me and enjoy a bit of a crunch on the crust) and you’re on you’re way out the door with a tasty slice that comes in a hearty portion. Two slices and youre stomach will be smiling. Pepperonie and sausage slice– two thumbs up. They are in a walk down store front so keep your eyes open. You don’t want to miss them.

Favorite late time pizza joint when I am out in DuPont! Love to drop by for a slice of the Hawaiian with ham, pineapple, and mozzarella or the Veggie Delight with mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives, and mozzarella. These slices are HUGE. Highly recommended!

I’m torn in how many stars to give this place but at the end of the day, there’s good pizza, there’s bad pizza and then there’s meh+ pizza. The pizza sold by the slice here falls under the meh+ pizza. it’s not bad. but it’s not good by NY/Chicago standards. It’s good in that its baked fresh, but the crust and sauce need work. They lost the most points with their version of the Chicago Deep Dish pizza. Now the deep dish can only fall under two categories: Great and Bad. This deep dish… sadly falls under the latter category. There’s no secret to a good deep dish pizza, there are simply 3 components that are key to baking a great pizza pie. the crust, the cheese/toppings, the sauce. In that order. There’s a reason deep dish pizzas are generally called Deep Dish PIES… they use pie crusts, not your regular pizza crust, and that’s the biggest faux pas at Alberto’s, where they decided to use a thick doughy pizza crust for the pie. Huge mistake, this just ends up being a very thick, chewy, dry crust that get’s soggy under the weight of the cheese and sauce. The true deep dish pie crust is similar to a pie crust used for apple/pumpkin pies… it’s buttery, flakey and relatively thin that goes up the side of the dish you bake it in. then comes the layer of mozzarella cheese… fresh, stringy, melty with a hint of salt. Which is why the sauce needs to go easy on the salt. Alberto’s ends up being very heavy handed on the salt from the cheese under the sauce, the salt in the sauce(which by itself might work great, for the normal pizzas) and then tops it off with a heavy dose of parmesan… again. more salt. Making it really hard to eat more than one slice of the pie. I may be coming down hard on these guys. but there’s so much potential here if they can just fix the recipe. DC definitely could use a solid spot that serves up some good chicago style pizza and Alberto’s seems to be up for the challenge. If they change up their recipe, I’ll definitely try them out again and redo my review, but for now this is all this Chicagoan’s got for you. P.s some of Chicago’s favorite deep dish places now ship their pies to you, might want to try a couple out to see the difference for yourself.

Slices are okay. Delivery Pizza tastes as thought it were a heated up industrial pizza. Might as well heat it up yourself. Also, I’ve had delivery take over an hour for, as I’ve said, something that tastes pre-made and is located two blocks away.

They were good. Stopped thru after class. Ordered over the phone but when I got there the order was messed up but they corrected the issue. With no problem & even compensated me for their mistake. My total came to $ 39 for 2 Side salads &1 med Chicago deep dish meat pizza with spinach. Pricey but filling «The Greek salad is soooo yummy too btw! Green & Black olives

Regular crust first visit: One and a half stars. Weary staff, some seating inside if you don’t mind eating in the basement level. The reason their quarter-pie slices are less greasy than Jumbo Slice is because they skimp on cheese enough that the marinara shows through everywhere. Eight by-the-slice options. Gutbuster was less boring than the mushroom and goat cheese, but both were room temperature and wildly underwhelming. Thin, firm crust. Pesto pizza with marinara sauce doesn’t seem super tempting but maybe the chicken can save it. The regular pizzas have got to be slightly better… long wait warning for deep dish. I’ll be avoiding this spot late at night if they’re going to be lazy about it– national chains may be carbier but are still better. Deep dish second visit: Three and a half stars and worth the forty minute prep time. The extra layer of mozzarella on their sturdy crust in their luxury deep dishes is not to be missed. Heat and Hog is white-people-spicy, I ended up doctoring with red chili flakes to give it the kick I wanted. Bacon is rendered and crumbled fine so the pizza isn’t too greasy. The tomato sauce tends to boil the ingredients a touch, but there was a liberal amount of red onions and a healthy amount of jalapenos incorporated. We’ll be back as deep dish customers.

Decent spot to get jumbo slices. Pizza isn’t great, but it’s pretty good. Two slices can get you full. Hell, the way they cut em, that’s like half a large pizza.

A formerly solid spot, new management has sterilized the space to remove all charm. Hand-drawn signs with individual character? Eliminated and replaced with mass-produced ones. Awesome mural on the wall with riffs on a century of political history? Painted over with dark coloring. Soundtracks that might be archaic but that used to reflect the personality of staff working? No more, unless German post-trance repeating loops is the unifying personality trait of all staff. Prices? Raised. Slices? Smaller. Service? Slow and carried out by people who are not having in a happy workplace. Pizza? The critical question? Now as reliably unremarkable as most Jumbo Slice style spots in the area. Goodbye, Albertos’s. May you be replaced soon.

DC is not known for its amazing bagels or hot dogs, it’s great sports teams, or flexibility when dealing with weather. And it is DEFINITELY not known for its pizza. Since moving to DC I have had to resign myself to having bad to mediocre pizza, no matter how much money I was willing to spend. The are these things called Jumbo Slices which are actually a pizza abomination(or Obamanation, HAHA… um…). So just having a decent slice of anything that resembles the deliciousness that is pizza is so refreshing. So then you pop over to Albertos which is in Dupont, down some stairs, and there are always a lot of bugs outside. The service is sometimes grouchy or slow, and sometimes the pizza is not so fresh. You bite into your slice and you realize it is not award-wining or life-changing. But the pizza is not expensive and not terrible, and probably won’t kill you. And so you say, «Alright, Albertos. Alright.»
