Good and cheap place. I’ve been coming here for some 6 years and never left disappointed.

Great barbers at a great price. Beard trim and haircut for $ 12. Couldn’t ask for better.

After eight visits to eight different barbers, finally found one that does a good haircut for a very good price. I like a trim with a bit of a style and Claudia delivered. And for $ 15. Cheapest and best cut I have had in a city devoid of decent barbers

Great barbers, great prices, what more could you ask for! I go here regularly and it’s nice to not have to spend a ridiculous amount of money for my standard haircut. I generally walk in no the weekday with a few minute to no wait.

We walked in today not having a barber outside of Connecticut… we left with a new barber in DC. So happy with the haircut and our barber was very accommodating to every request she was given by my very particular son. Absolutely awesome cut and amazing warm barber. Plus reasonable prices!

Walked in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy, but I didn’t have to wait. The young guy who cut my hair was very friendly, and the cut came out well. I’d definitely go back!

I stopped into Alex’s on a whim while visiting DC from out of town and am so glad I did. It was a weekday afternoon and I got in a chair right away, and just a few questions about my clipper guard length, round or square neck, and gel or no gel, got me a great looking haircut, clipper faded on the sides and a little longer on top, and lined edges with a straight razor. My hair is curly which doesn’t always go over well at unfamiliar barber shops, but she did a great job. It wasn’t rushed, the stuff she put in smelled good, and it was just $ 15. Would definitely return if I lived in DC.

In my opinion, this place has it all: great price, good service and barbers who not only listen to what you want, but are able to cut your hair exactly like you’ve asked. I’ve been here four or five times over the last six months, and have been more than satisfied every single time. For just $ 15(before tip), you can get a haircut that doesn’t feel rushed. They do it right: scissors, clippers and razors to get you the look you request. And, if it doesn’t look quite like you want, they’re happy to spend more time getting it right. This is a great place for men who want a good, simple barber at an incredible price. And bonus: televised soccer games and friendly conversation while you’re there. Highly recommended.

I have been to Alex’s twice since moving to the area. I am a guy, and want a simple, basic, haircut that looks great at a cheap price. Alex delivers all of that. It is cheap(haircut and beard trim have been $ 15 before tip), and the people who have cut my hair have been very consciousness of details. If you want something special, I have no clue. If you want a basic community barbershop/hair salon, that is cheap and delivers solid haircuts, this is a good place.

This review is 100% about the haircut I received. The service, the people, the wait, the price… it was all great — unfortunately, I went there for a haircut. I just recently moved from Arlington to Columbia Heights and am currently(still) searching for a reliable place. So far, I’m 0 for 1. To be fair, I’ve only been there once, and thus have only received a haircut from one employee. That being said, it was without a doubt the worst haircut I’ve ever received in my life. I am NOT exaggerating. I was in the seat for about 10 – 15 minutes. Asked for a simple cut. «3 on the sides and trim the top about an inch or so with the scissors.» Welp, she shaved the sides(you can’t mess that up if you try) and then proceeded to pretend to cut my hair with scissors. She probably made 10 cuts total. The rest were miniature cuts of what seemed to be single strands of hair. I regretted my decision the second she started up top. At the end of the cut, she put some kind of «gel» in her hands and rubbed it into my hair. I thought it would make me look at least half-decent until I got home and ran some damage control myself. I was wrong. I looked in the mirror when she turned me around and I looked like someone who hadn’t showered in about a week. I just looked greasy and my hair… can’t even begin to describe it. Maybe the lady who originally started my cut was substituted out by a blind person. I went home to try and fix what had been done(and what I regrettably had paid $ 15 for) with little success. I shaved my head. Starting fresh. Next up… ???

For $ 15 dollars this is what I got: I found it odd that my back was facing the mirror, partly because I was anxious about the lady cutting my hair messing up due to her poor english skills, but wow, she did an AMAZING job. I came into the shop with long, thick, black, messy hair. I showed her a picture of david beckham with his hair combed up to the side, with shorter hair on the sides of his head… it’s a very popular style right now. She did it pretty well, she combed my hair backwards and it looked a tiny bit hispanic but I just keep it to the side now. I gave her $ 20.

This is a good place to get your eyebrows shape and a simple haircut. But if you are looking for a place where to get you hair massaged and washed(like in a spa) I would recommend to look for something else. Anyway, this place really worth a try, price and service are fair. I highly recommend it!

They cut my BF’s hair way too short! We asked them to keep it long in the front and short in the back but he just went off the closest model found on the hair chart hanging up on the walls that he could find. Very disappointed at their lack of range.

I haven’t had much luck finding a good haircutter in DC. The only one I can trust is Gaazi at Toka Salon in Georgetown, and I can’t afford him. I was desperate for a haircut and took a chance at this place, which is really more of a barbershop. I figured it’s cheap and my hair is long, so if necessary, I can get my hair fixed. My hair is so long that during the 2009 supercuts debacle, the super shitty haircut I got had to be fixed three times, and I still had hair past my shoulders. anywhoo I’m glad I went. This no-frills place is awesome. My haircut cost all of $ 17, and the lady that cut my hair followed my directions precisely. I told her I wanted the same haircut I already had(which is long and layered), but that I wanted long-ish bangs, and I wanted her to get rid of split ends. Yup, she did a great job. Much better than the last place I went to which charged me more than 3x for a non-existent haircut. My haircut was $ 17, and understand that I didn’t ask for a shampoo or a blow dry. I know my hair pretty well and I usually just let it air dry anyway. I know what it would look like.(But she did blow dry my bangs to show me what the haircut would look like.) I also asked to have my eyebrows cleaned up, and that was $ 8. She did a great job there too. I highly recommend this place.

5.0 Stars. This is one place you can walk into with any style of haircut and walk out looking absolutely fabulous! You see, being a princess about my «mohawk,» it is critical to find the right person to care for it. And here, there is no problem finding a great sylist who can do any do, LOL. So be ultra fabulous and give these guys a try. One stop and you will be hooked!

Quality haircut at a reasonable price. My hairstyle is pretty simple though. Friendly people, always a lot of people around, but never a long wait. Bonus: practice your Spanish with vocab like«moco de gorilla.»(«Gorilla snot,» a brand of hair gel.)

I’m pretty particular about my hair because I have a weirdly shaped head and an ugly face so really, it’s up to my hair to «bring it all together» and keep me from looking like a Picasso painting. I’ve had several good haircuts from Alex’s before but my last experience was just so egregiously bad I have to submit this review. Alex’s Unisex Sorting Hat placed me into the hands of somebody who had no idea what he was doing. Basically, when I walked in they asked the guy holding the mop if he wanted to give haircutting«a try.» He didn’t speak English, so when I told him what I wanted he needed to get a coworker to help translate… and then explain to him how to actually do it. This would be understandable if I had said something obnoxious and vague like, «I want something avant-garde but also appropriate for the workplace environment.» But I literally said, «Number two on the sides, scissors on top» replete with hand gestures. I was in the chair for a good 45 minutes before I glimpsed at the mirror and saw the trainwreck that my head had become. The sides were uneven, the top was uneven, the back was uneven. And for the past 20 minutes he had been using a pair of scissors that yanked out my hair every time he cut. I pulled a woman aside and explained to her that I was in a hurry and I wanted her to finish my haircut. Another man came over(I assume a supervisor) asking me what was wrong. I told him the same thing and he tried to tell me that there was nothing wrong with my haircut. At that point I literally looked around the room for hidden cameras thinking I was in an episode of Tabatha Takes Over. To top if all off, all the workers kept saying«Chino,» and then other things in Spanish, and then laughing. I was unaware that Old Navy was having a sale. Ultimately, the woman that took over did a good job, and although it took an hour, I was satisfied with my haircut. So that saved them from having me walk out the door without paying, but not from this review.

To be fair, this seems like a perfectly respectable place. The staff was friendly and quick, despite a full house. I went to this place the other day as it had gotten such great reviews on Unilocal.I have recently moved to DC from abroad and hadn’t had a haircut in a couple months. As I had a job interview yesterday, I wanted to look clean cut and presentable. When I sat down at the barber’s chair, I asked that she use a five guard on the sides and cut a half inch off the top. What I got was a fade that made my head look like an upside down pyramid with my bangs cut in a straight line. And to top it off, and this is the part that actually had me laughing in my chair, the barber used a straight razor to shave my temples /entire hairline. She literally shaved my hairline back about half an inch on my temples and I was so shocked I couldn’t help but to laugh. After all, she had already dug into me. What was I going to do? Long story short: I walked into my job interview the next day with white swatches on the sides of my face /a ridiculous sculpted hairline that looked very ethnic(complete with the pointy, thin lined sideburns which I had to shave off entirely). I have had many bad haircuts in my life, some that even left me angry and annoyed. And while this is by far the worst and most inappropriate haircut I’ve ever had in my 32 years on this Earth, it’s so ridiculous that I can only laugh at it. It’s a fine establishment, and I think if you’re under the age of 15 and/or Latino, this may be a great fit for you. If you’re a professional white guy over the age of 30, this is not going to work for you.

After walking in with my long red hair and being stared at for a minute or two, a friendly stylist generally asks me if I want to get my hair cut. I usually bring a photo, because I’m really bad at explaining how I want my hair cut. I have had different stylists each time, and they have all been excellent. They do a solid job of replicating the photo. It’s a really fun atmosphere too. Boom box is playing sweet jams, and sometimes soccer is on! It’s a very social environment with most people generally speaking Spanish. Don’t worry though, even if you don’t speak Spanish everyone is super welcoming! It makes sense — they are a business and they want customers! This is my go to spot for hair cut in DC. 14 bucks! You seriously can’t beat that. I always give them a handsome tip with that unbeatable price coupled with superb service. AND they accept credit cards — you can tip on them too! Quick note: They will put gel in your hair at the end of the cut unless you specifically ask them not to. I realize this may be standard for most places, but I just wanted to let you know. Letting them know ahead of time prevents me from having to take go home and wash my hair right afterwards!
