This golf course opened in 1948 yet is still a hidden gem in Washington, DC… I hesitate to even review it on Unilocal. It’s a private course mainly for the residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, but you can get in touch with them about becoming an associate member. In addition to the annual fee, members are expected to be able to help volunteer in other ways as well. Once you are a member, you have access to all the free rounds of golf you want every day until sundown! And you can buy buckets of golf balls as well at the driving range. In terms of quality and being challenging, the course will not blow your mind. The course gets dry in the summer, you can find things like holes or dead grass on a green or two, there aren’t any sand traps, and it’s only 9 holes with one par 5. But it’s pretty special in other ways. From different holes you can see the washington moment, the national cathedral, and the basilica of the national shrine of the immaculate conception among other things. The armed forces retirement home is the second highest place in all of DC besides the national cathedral! It’s a really relaxed course and it never gets that busy. I just joined and I couldn’t be happier! Hopefully I haven’t let out the secret with my Unilocal review…
