Went for the complimentary appetizer. Entrees/Sushi must be purchased in order to receive the appetizer and they limit which appetizers you can select. Food was good, but nothing exciting. No space at the bar, so no happy hour specials.

I had dinner there on a quieter evening, and the ambiance was great. Really spacious, good noise level. The service was good too. I had the Penang curry and while it tasted alright, I wish the curry weren’t so watery. It was lacking a bit of kick in the spice department too. The beef that came with it was a little dry.

Dropped in for a late lunch on NYE. Not very crowded, however it took the bartender awhile to take my order. To his merit, although he wasn’t the only staff present, he did appear to be the only one working. While I admit that my lunch was more liquid than anything(for festivities’ sake), I did get around to ordering the avocado salad. Nothing remarkable; I love avocado, so it is very difficult to disappoint me with any dish that features a hefty, fresh serving of it. The salad itself was very simple and fresh. The issue was the over abundance of dressing. Aside from that, it was very sweet and didn’t compliment the salad all that well. Extra notes: typical atmosphere you would expect from an Asian fusion joint. Free app if you check in on Unilocal(didn’t use this time).

Delicious phở in DC. I go here all the time. Haven’t tried their other dishes yet but definitely want to. Pretty and big restaurant inside too. Conveniently located in Penn Quarter.

The service I had was very poor and had multiple waiter ask me if I had ordered so it seemed if they had not been well organized. Also there duck rolls in the appetizers I don’t recommend they are too over powered by the vegetable in side such as the large amount of been sprouts they stuff in them. Finally I don’t recommend you get the ramen it had a weird taste to it and was not well put together with the different ingredients you are better off going to ramen shop right across from the Verizon center.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place for lunch today. I have had my fair share of Thai food and I must say that I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and he ordered the Gway Tiew(Pad See Eaw) with pork. I will say that the service at Asia Nine was relatively speedy. We came in around 12:45 p.m. on a Thursday and had our food in about 15 minutes. But the minute I tasted the Pad Thai, something was just… off. The chicken had a very strange flavor to it; it was unlike any other chicken I’d ever tasted. It had a bizarre aftertaste that was somewhat rubbery and chemical-like. I asked my boyfriend to try it and he said that it was«really dry,» although I think that was a generous assessment. I tried eating around the chicken, but honestly the taste was so foul that it had ruined the rest of the dish for me. I do not consider myself a picky eater and have sent a dish back maybe once or twice in my life. After two more bites, it became quite clear that this dish was simply not going to be edible for me. Our server noticed that I was displeased, and I explained that the chicken tasted strange and that I would like to order something else. He asked if I would like to speak to the manager, which really wasn’t necessary(I didn’t want to make a scene). I said it was fine, and that I just wanted to order another dish. I tried my boyfriend’s Gway Tiew and it tasted fine, so I went with that. Our server got my new order in right away, but, strangely, asked if I wanted to box up the Pad Thai. I said no. The kitchen got my replacement dish out quite quickly, so that was certainly appreciated. The Gway Tiew was okay, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. Chances are you could make something better at home and for a fraction of the price. I did have the Thai iced coffee, which was okay as well, but again nothing particularly memorable. However, when my boyfriend and I received our bill, they had still charged us for the Pad Thai. We wondered if this had anything to do with the fact that we declined to speak to the manager. My boyfriend and I are well-traveled and have both worked in the service industry for years. I don’t know where this would have been accepted. If a customer is displeased with a dish or drink and sends it back, you *always* comp it. Even if he or she has been rude or ridiculous(which I hadn’t been– in fact, I was adamant about not making a big deal out of this), that is just what you do. The whole scenario felt very unprofessional and gave us the impression that this establishment values the bottom line over customer service. Needless to say, we weren’t happy to see the Pad Thai on our bill, but my boyfriend had to get back to work so we decided to just pay for it and get out of there. We will definitely not be returning.

I came here with a meetup group for happy hour last Thursday. It was about 13 of us and we pretty much had the whole area in the back(by the bar) of the restaurant to ourselves. I ordered the lychee martini and a bowl of edamame. Happy hour is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and I was able to order my edamame at 6:58 p.m. My drink was yummy; it was sweet but not too too sweet. The service was fast but friendly. I’ll have to come back and try the sushi.

This is my 10th time visiting Asia nine, I love this place and the food is amazing! I usually get the same things but since I’m Unilocaling I decided to try something different for once. I had my regular dynamite sushi just because it’s the best sushi I’ve ever eaten and I’m addicted to it lol and we got Asian beef jerky with a side of sriracha sauce. We got a free appetizer for checking in on Unilocal.Awesome! The free crab wonton was amazing! For the entrée we ordered the Korea. sizzling beef and Cantonese chicken fried rice. Everything was amazing and even got orders to go.

Happy Hour at Asia Nine with Unilocal Check-In is the way to go for this place. Located on E St, Asia Nine appears to have weathered quite a few storms with DC. Nevertheless, service is good and great cocktails. I had the Chirashi Bowl which was a surprising amount of food. When they said 17 pieces of fish… they were not kidding. Good quality and freshness and good value on price($ 22). My girlfriend got the Miso Honey Duck which is a misleading item… because by the time the dish reaches the patron… there was no hints of miso nor duck. The duck gamey-ness took over which is fine if you love duck like me and my girl… but not so much if you do not enjoy that flavor. Texture on the duck was bit of a letdown as well as the skin was flabby and not crisp. I would stick to the HH cocktails and sushi/sashimi.

Not much I like about this place. Expensive for what you get. Food is very average. Tables are too close together.

One of the best chirashi bowls I’ve had in a while. Maputo, salmon, Albacore, white tuna, ikura, mushrooms, tamago and Krab! And only $ 17. Check in w/Yelp and get some free egg rolls.

Found this place on Unilocal since my sister and I were completely clueless about great food on the east coast. Check in for a small appetizer. Cute little candle lot dinner. The space is very large and great for parties. I felt bad for our server because he was alone handling too many tables. The sushi was great and fresh. Pretty much filled me up. My sister and I shared around 4 plates and rolls between each other. They don’t just serve sushi, but Thai food as well.

Classic white people friendly Asian«fusion» joint in DC, which unfortunately is 99.9% of most Japanese restaurants in town. Happy hour drink deals are pretty good but otherwise I’d probably give Asia Nine a pass. The sushi rice was mushy/cold and I would say most of their rolls and hot dishes are at least $ 2 – 3 overpriced.

The location is awesome. The interior was mid-upscale. It had a good ambiance. The food didn’t overpower the overall smell of the place. These were all good things about the place. I really liked their noodle dish — forgot what is was called. It was light yet refreshing, but since they were noodles, they eventually weighed me down for the rest of the day. I was impressed with the taste, but wanted something stronger. Maybe spice? Maybe more flavor? To me, it was a bit too light. Ever since that lunch, I have not really pulled myself together to try the place again. Although it is a good place to try once in a while, I am okay with it. I think there are better choices in the area.

Worst restaurant in the area around here. Caught one of the hostess there throwing hot water on homeless people outside. Very degrading and insulting to them. Will never go there again and the food really not that bad but can’t eat somewhere were people are disrespectful.

Asia Nine is a pan-Asian place that tries to do too much and squarely sits on Think of the most average person you know. Now imagine that person is Asian. Now imagine that person cooks some Asian food. That’s what Asia Nine is. I already ate a bit of food earlier in the evening, but after going to see What We Do in the Shadows, my friend and I decided to sit down for a meal. I ended up getting a mushroom sushi roll and an avocado roll. They both were really not that good — the kind of sushi you just swish around in some soy sauce and call it alright. I actually got a free miso soup using my Unilocal app, which was greatly appreciated. The service here is attentive though. My friend dropped her lime and someone came over to pick it up immediately. My friend’s pad thai was actually not bad, though. Maybe if I came back I’d avoid the sushi and go for the entrees.

This is quite possibly one of the most underrated spots in Penn Quarter. I not sure why the reviews are not more positive! You can almost always get a reservation, they have great happy hour deals, and their takeout service is great as well. Highlights of the menu are their basil noodles(pro tip — get it with ground chicken!), the parang curry, and their chicken wings(sometimes not on the menu but you can still get them). During happy hour they have several apps on special. The basil noodles is the best entrée. The thick noodles come with crispy basil leaves that just make for an amazing dish. We have never ventured to try their sushi but I hear it is decent. We often take out of towners here and they always have positive comments. A true gem in Penn Quarter!

I used to love this place for sushi after Jazz in the Garden. The service is good, but I didn’t find the sushi to be that fresh during my last visit. It could have been a one time deal; but I will probably stay away from the sushi here next time. I saw the other reviews that the happy hour specials are good; so maybe it’s worthwhile to check those out. The location is only a few blocks from the metro and it’s easy to find.

Enjoyable place but minus a star for their happy hour service. We we sitting on the front patio and were first told«we can work something out» if we wish to sit outside rather than sit inside at the crowded bar and they brought us the happy hour menu. Next thing you know, after discussions between the waitress and manager that took as long as negotiating the Treaty of Versailles, no happy hour specials for us. If you want to play hardball on HH locations fine, but don’t make it this much of an ordeal. The beef panang curry served with rice and was pretty tasty, though the beef was a bit tough. It went well with a Kirin Japanese beer. The patio is a good location for a meal in good weather and I’ve enjoyed my previous meals here as well. I’ll be back here but the happy hour situation was annoying.

One of the worst experiences I have had in a very long time. It all deals with the Unilocal check-in deal. The deal is for a free glass of wine or tapas. There were three in my party and we each tried to redeem out check in. The waitress said she needed to take my phone to the manager, Noom, to show him. I kindly stated that I would be more comfortable if my phone stayed with me and she brought the manager over. She agreed, told the manager and then placed our order for the wine and tapas. A few minutes later instead of returning with our order, she stated that the manager said we couldn’t use all the promotions at one table. Considering my deal didn’t state that, I asked to speak to the manager. Meanwhile, our waitress tells us that she cannot fulfill our entrée orders until the manager looks up the fine print for the Unilocal deal. He came over and stated that he would get In trouble with the owner if he were to acknowledge our coupons(after he already agreed to give it to us). I just couldn’t understand how a coupon they created was no longer valid. We literally debated this for over 5 minutes as neither of us would budge on the issue. Finally, I asked if they did separate checks. Since they do, I asked if he could ring up each order separately and ethat way he would not get in trouble. I guess this option made sense to him, because he eventually agreed and honored everyone’s check in deal. He also stated that they were going to be removing the Unilocal deal since it caused so much confusion. Afterwards, I was appalled that he argued with me on this matter. My wine wasn’t any good but I was afraid to complain anymore so I just drank it. I ordered the Spring rolls, they were pretty good. The sweet and sour sauce was thick; not quite what I expected. My entrée of panama curry was good. The three star spicy is pretty intense so I can’t imagine Thai hot at this place. Overall, I left this place with a burning mouth and intense headache.
