CLOSED Axis is now closed. This is very disappointing, I always loved to pass by and see the beautiful window displays they had. You can find Jefferson, Ryan and Claudia at(Thomas Shelton Hair Design) Located just a few blocks. I’m really inspired by both of these stylist. Also I know Tina and Andrea have moved to Salon Rouge on 17th and R st. I have worked with Tina in the past and she is an amazing stylist and Fun, I’ve never worked with Andrea but I’ve heard really good things about her. Hope this helps with finding your stylist if you were displaced. –

CLOSED! I was so excited to have a haircut tonight with Ryan, who I followed from another salon. Arrived at the time of my appointment(which they called to confirm a few days ago) and they had clearly closed down. Nobody called me, no signs in the windows, nothing. The sweet lady at the bead store next door happened to have a card from a stylist at Axis who told me they closed down suddenly on Sunday. She was kind enough to tell me that Ryan is now at Thomas Shelton salon, if you’re looking for him!

This salon is a bit of a hidden gem in the Dupont Circle area. Even though it’s right next to the circle, the entrance is so unobtrusive that it’s easy to walk past. When you go inside, though, you’ll be happy you did find them, because this place is adorable. Chic, modern décor with lovely staff that goes to great lengths to make sure you are comfortable and happy. I enjoyed not one but two glasses of prosecco while I was there, which added to the fun of the visit. For my visit, I was there to get a spa mani-pedi with their nail technician Raymond. Let me tell you, he is a total gem. Such a great personality, really personable, and a pleasure to talk to throughout my time there. He really made the visit enjoyable. He’s absolutely a professional at what he does and knows the best ways to make you feel pretty and relaxed. Aside from the bubbles in my foot bath overflowing, everything was pretty fantastic about the mani-pedi experience. A few things to note about the place overall: One is that there is only one station for pedicures and one for manicures, and only the one technician. So if anything gets delayed, it has a domino effect on all the rest of the appointments for the day. I was waiting in the foot bath for a good long time because there was another client who still needed him to finish her manicure, and all told I was in the chairs for an hour and a half. While I love getting my money’s worth, that’s kind of a long time for a mani-pedi. The second thing is that they are pretty pricey overall, which is expected for a place in the heart of Dupont Circle but should still be noted. I went in with a Groupon deal, but normally that mani-pedi would have run me out $ 80. So keep that in mind before you think about using any of their services, because all of their prices are on that level. In short, Axis Salon may cost a lot and may mean setting aside a good chunk of your day, but all for great results in the end delivered with the utmost class and kindness. Worth checking out if you’ve never been for sure.

I followed the absolute best hair stylist/artist/genius, Jeff Farah, after he left VSL. I just had my first haircut in this new place and I’m very thrilled with the change up! The salon itself is extremely clean and professional. Cleanliness is difficult to achieve in a hair salon, so that’s usually one of the first things I notice. I was greeted professionally and immediately offered a beverage. My experience at Axis was incredible and relaxing. Also, if anyone needs a recommendation, go to Jeff! He’s sooo good. He’s also a lot of fun to talk to and has the best memory in the world.

I’m not going to lie, my hair matters. And having people compliment my hairdo makes me smile :) That is always the end result after a haircut with JEFF. I’ve been seeing him for a year and followed him to his lovely new home: Axis. I just got highlights for the 1st time in years and they are FAB! As for the rest of the crew, they are all attentive and warm. Look no más & meet your new stylist :)

I had a Groupon and was in desperate need of a haircut and color. The last time I used a Groupon-style deal for hair color, I ended up spending more money to get it fixed because it was awful. So I went into this a bit worried. My stylist was SUPER nice and only gave me a slightly hard time about the length of my roots and the fact it had been over a years since my last haircut. We talked about what I wanted and she got to work. She was extremely professional but also easygoing and our conversation wasn’t forced, like some places. The color turned out beautiful, perfect for Fall, and while it wasn’t exactly what I thought I wanted, I realized that I didn’t know what I wanted and this was much better. The cut is also perfect, nothing super special but exactly what I asked for, with a bit more style and flair. She didn’t do anything too fancy when she blow dried it, which was great because I don’t do anything fancy to my hair to begin with. The woman who shampooed my hair gave me just the right amount of head massage and was also incredibly nice. The best part is that no one tried to sell me products, and there were no additional charges after the Groupon. I haven’t ever been loyal to one salon, but I think this experience might change that.

I have veeery long hair. It is summer so I really needed a haircut. I decided to take this one because of the location, the Groupon and the Unilocal reviews. And, i would definitely go back again. My haircut was and still is really nice! You may think that it is really easy to cut long and straight hair but the hairdresser did a really good job giving my hair volume! Unfortunately, I do not remember her name but she has short red hair. I had a very pleasant conversation with her about a lot of stuff. It seemed we knew each other for long time. The environment is simple and small but not claustrophobic. Claudia, who washed my hair is really nice and well and it was kind of getting a free massage. I would definitely recommend to go there if you are nearby and buy the Groupon if it still available!

I love this place! The energy of the atmosphere is positive and warm and very hospitable and my nail technician Mr Raymond Chandler is fantastic and amazing all rolled up into one! I will definitely be going back and I will tell all my friends. If you want to get pampered this is the place to go! I feel absolutely wonderful when I walked in and when I walked out. They even offered me refreshments! The staff was very friendly too! ! I can’t wait to go back again!

I used to come to this salon because of the amazing stylist Jamie Bishop — she has been the only stylist in DC that has done my hair correctly and amazingly every time. I had an appointment with Jamie for today but she is no longer at Axis(for good reason). She told me and I made a new appointment with her at her new location at Salon Loule — but I received an email from Axis confirming my appointment with Jamie. When I called to ask about the appointment and how it was still with Jamie if she wasn’t there they just fumbled on their words and told me I could cancel. They clearly just were trying to keep clients by being dishonest and just putting them with a different person as if we wouldn’t notice. It’s not that professional in my opinion. Axis used to be my go to place here but unfortunately they are letting go of their best talent so I highly doubt it will still be as successful as it used to be.

Love this salon! The people are so friendly and accommodating. They have great products and the atmosphere is fun. My Mom has been going here for as long as I can remember and I have gone a handful of times over the last almost 10+ years and I have gone to multiple colorists and stylists; they are all amazingly talented! Highly recommend.

If you can afford it don’t even bother researching other salons. Looking for a long lasting, as close to perfection as it gets when it comes to keratin just go to JANEEN! I don’t hand out compliments like candy but this woman has talent, this sounds so cliché but since I can’t afford her services anymore I’ve been settling for random salons that price down their keratin on groupon and«nobody compares»! If that’s not good enough Janeen is so quirky, hip, sarcastic but in a good way that its actually an enjoyable experience sitting through the hours of the keratin process with her, it’s so easy to relate and feel comfortable talking to her about practically anything(plus her cray cray stories are always something I look forward to)

I’m a fan! Love Jamie, my Selma Blair look-alike stylist, and her can-do attitude and creativity to accomplish any hair-raising task I set before her. She works extremely well with long hair… I asked for long layers that aren’t razor cut to oblivion but give just enough shape and movement; DONE! Next, I was overdue for an overall color touch-up and wanted some highlights. Her placement of highlights are impeccable; they allowed the overall hair color to shine through and I love seeing the perfectly placed lightened strips of hair throughout. Brilliant! Her blowout was bouncy and fun. I usually go flatiron straight, so when I walked out I couldn’t help looking at my hair in the reflection of every store-front window I passed by. I must have looked ridiculous… ha! The salon is clean and modern and offers great products. They no longer carry Kerastase but they still carry Bumble & Bumble and have a couple new products that I would like to try soon. Everyone that works there is friendly and helpful. I thought the prices were one the mark. They take credit cards but only cash tips… so remember to bring cash! There is a bank nearby if you forget… I always do :) I’m looking forward to future appointments… we’re going to experiment with going redder and I may try the keratin treatment! BTW…I gave a 5-star but the Unilocal won’t show the review with that rating.

Axis turned lemons in to lemonade! I have to begin by saying that I have naturally curly hair hate to do anything with it. My idea of a good haircut is one that allows me to jump out of the shower and go; no comb, no brush and certainly no blow-dryer. After a number of very good haircuts at Axis I had a bad experience when the stylist I frequented moved to another establishment. This stylist not only moved from the salon but decided to focus on coloring and forego cutting hair — so following was not an option. I made an appointment with someone else and as my previous post indicated — I received a bad haircut. Since I originally found the salon via Unilocal I uncharacteristically decided to post a review. I was surprised when the owner of the salon responded to my post asking how she might make it right. I was so intrigued with the idea that a service provider would actually try to please one of their customers that I decided to give the salon another go. First and most importantly — George was very attentive and gave me exactly the haircut I asked for. Given my aversion to brushes and blow-dryers I might ask him to make a few recommendations next time — and there WILLBE A NEXTTIME! The entire staff was marvelous! I recommend Axis to all!

I got the groupon for Axis and was surprised that they could see me that very weekend. Turns out that must’ve been a mistake in their computer or whoever booked the appointment, because when I got there, it turned out my appointment had been made for a month later. The receptionist was very apologetic for making me have to wait as they tried to figure out how they would accommodate my cut and color. I really didn’t have to wait very long at all, and again, they were very apologetic and gave me prosecco to enjoy while I waited. Carie did my color which ended up making my roots look a brassy orange(I was touching up roots to match my dark red dye job) though it blended okay – for a month. As it grew out and through shampoos, it started to look worse and worse. Sue cut my hair, taking off all the split ends while still preserving a LOT of length. She also convinced me to go for some lights bangs just on the side of my face; though I was skeptical, it turned out to be really subtle and looks very«finished,» even when I put my hair up. However, the haircut itself was uneven(possibly rushed?). The salon itself is nothing fancy but the staff was very courteous. Including the groupon, I paid $ 140 total for the cut and color.

4.25 stars. Basically, I decided to go here because 1) Diego’s oddly had let me down the last couple of times I had been there and 2) it was open on a Sunday. This easily could become a monthly ritual; Axis knows what they are doing with hair. I liked that the stylists listened to me and understood what I was trying to do(namely, a tapered professional look with subtle elements of noise). Sure, I might not be able to replicate it given that I rarely use products at home, but Axis does have the ability to create a professional cut that at least has some level of flair. For that, they should be commended. The stylist that I used(Jamie) had helpful advice about what I can do with my generally unmanageable hair. She didn’t have to do anything too crazy with my hair so I can only say that she is masterful at creating a nice, clean professional look. For me, that counts for a lot. She also sent me a card in the mail thanking me for coming to the salon. I thought that was a nice touch as well. Axis was good enough for me to basically mail in my idea of trying the Urban Style Lab. Sure, Axis might be expensive, but so is every place not named Diego’s that gives you a top notch haircut. Add in the convenience factor of being open on Sundays and Axis very well might be in an echelon all by itself.

Jefferson cut my hair this morning. He knew exactly what I was envisioning and provided the perfect hairstyle :) I went from shoulder length hair to a wispy bob with long bangs. shampoo and cut was $ 80. More expensive than I usually pay, but the cut was just about perfect. He’s been cutting hair for 22 years and has been at Axis for over 10 years! I will be returning :)

Update: as of a few months ago, Axis is under new management. I no longer live in DC, so I don’t know how it is now. But a lot of my favorite stylists have left — Jason, Sue, and Michael are no longer there. Previous Review: I loves me some Jason! I love him so much our hair relationship survived his cross-country move to CA a few years ago. I was heartbroken when he left, but pulled the pieces of my life back together and moved on and began to see a really nice woman named Yodit on U. Street. But when I heard Jason was coming back, well let’s just say we’ve been together ever since. He knows exactly how to cut my extremely curly, has a mind of its own hair. And when I decided to finally take the plunge and try the Brazilian straightener last year, it was Jason I trusted to do it. And it turned out beautifully! I could not have been happier. I have recommended him to my sister and several friends, and they all love him. He is friendly and creative, but also really listens to what YOU want. He’s definitely a keeper!
